[Response to Instruction and Intervention]

District 76 utilizes a data-driven, 3-tiered model to identify students in need of academic enrichment opportunities and academic skill building opportunities. The District 76 RTII process begins with the MAP assessment in grades two through eight and a diagnostic universal screener in kindergarten and first grade.

  • Students in kindergarten and first grade who score in the lowest percentile/level groupings for their grade level receive intervention through additional reading instruction for 50 minutes to an hour a day from one of our reading specialists.

  • Students in grades two through eight whose scores fall at or above the 80th percentile [using national norms] are provided enrichment opportunities.

  • Students in grades two through eight whose scores fall below the 10th percentile [using national norms] are provided intervention supports in their area[s] of deficiency for 50 minutes a day in groups of three/four students.

  • Students in grades two through eight who fall the 11th - 20th percentile are provided intervention supports in their area[s] of deficiency for 30 minutes a day in groups of five/six students depending on availability.

Prior to receiving skill specific interventions, our struggling students in grades two through eight participate in a diagnostic assessment. The results from the diagnostic assessment are used to inform our interventionists as they select the most appropriate intervention tool for their students.

Once a student is identified as needing intervention, parents and guardians are notified.

Data discussion meetings occur every four weeks; parents are invited and encouraged to attend the data meetings. The purpose of the data meetings is to ensure students are making progress in their area of deficiency and to determine if a change needs to be made in the intervention plan.
