Happy Hispanic Heritage Month! This week has been full of learning and community. This Friday marks week 2 of our PBIS Hallway Challenge. Students are practicing safe, responsible and respectful behaviors in the hallway. Each teacher has gold paws to give out to students and the class with the most will win a pizza party! Our wolfpack has done an amazing job taking risks, and having a growth mindset as they continue to work hard with the new math curriculum. In the surrounding community, our PTO and volunteers hosted a dine out night at Culver’s thanks to all of you who attended, the money earned goes to the PTO which is then in turn given back to our students for engaging and fun learning opportunities, and school projects. West Oak is truly a wonderful place to be because of you and your students. Enjoy your long weekend, Monday 9/25/23 we will not have school as we observe Yom Kappur.

Mundelein Aspire Program:
We are excited to inform you that we are partnering with Mundelein High School and their aspire program. This program allows for current high school students who are alumni of D76 to come and serve as teaching assistants. They shadow supporting teachers at West Oak Intermediate, and our hope is that one day they will have the opportunity to teach in our district after they finish college!
STAR Test Scores:
Today STAR test scores were emailed to families to show your child’s performance within the Fall benchmark testing cycle. These initial scores provide us with an opportunity to set goals with students and ensure that we are adjusting our teachings, our lessons, and our practices to meet the needs of our students. Our teachers meet regularly to plan instruction based on the STAR data to ensure we can give all of our students the best, and most effective instruction possible. We continue to fulfill our mission and vision of knowing each student by name, strength and need.
When we take the STAR test again in the Winter, we will compare the Fall benchmark scores to the Winter benchmark scores and measure how much growth our students are making in Early Literacy, Reading, Spanish Reading for Dual Language students, and Mathematics. Families can use the STAR report to search skills that you want your students to work on online. If you would like to know about additional resources to support your students, please do not hesitate to reach out.

Smile Dentist: In the middle of October, Families will have the opportunity to sign their children up for a free dental check-up and cleaning. Click HERE for more information.
Medication Authorization Form: If your child needs to take medication of any kind throughout the school day, in response to allergies, or under specific circumstances, families are required to complete the D76 Medical Authorization form. Portions of the form must be completed by your child’s physician. Click HERE to access the form. In addition to the completed form, families must provide the medication in its original container. Printed copies of the form are also available in our front office.

Summer Family Market distributions use a contactless drive-thru model with pre-packed groceries. No registration, ID, or documentation is needed. Food is distributed on a first-come first-served basis, while supplies last.

¡Feliz Mes de la Herencia Hispana! Esta semana ha estado llena de aprendizaje. Este viernes marca la semana 2 de nuestro Desafío de PBIS. Los estudiantes están practicando comportamientos seguros, responsables y respetuosos en el pasillo.Cada profesor tiene tarjetas de patas de oro para dar a los estudiantes y la clase con más ganará una fiesta de pizza! Nuestra manada de lobos ha hecho un trabajo increíble tomando riesgos, y teniendo una mentalidad de crecimiento mientras continúan trabajando duro con el nuevo plan de estudios de matemáticas.En la comunidad circundante, nuestro PTO y voluntarios organizaron una noche de cena en Culver's gracias a todos los que asistieron, el dinero ganado va al PTO, que a su vez se devuelve a nuestros estudiantes por oportunidades de aprendizaje atractivas y divertidas, y proyectos escolares.West Oak es verdaderamente un lugar maravilloso para estar debido a usted y sus estudiantes. Programa Aspire de Mundelein : Nos complace informarle que nos estamos asociando con Mundelein High School y su programa aspire. Este programa permite que los estudiantes actuales de preparatoria que son ex alumnos de D76 vengan y sirvan como asistentes de enseñanza.¡Ellos apoyan a los maestros en West Oak Intermediate, y nuestra esperanza es que un día tengan la oportunidad de enseñar en nuestro distrito después de que terminen la universidad!
Puntajes de la prueba STAR: Hoy los puntajes de las pruebas STAR se enviaron por correo electrónico a las familias para mostrar el desempeño de su hijo dentro del ciclo de prueba de referencia de otoño. Estos puntajes iniciales nos brindan la oportunidad de establecer metas con los estudiantes y asegurarnos de que estamos ajustando nuestras enseñanzas, nuestras lecciones y nuestras prácticas para satisfacer las necesidades de nuestros estudiantes.Nuestros maestros se reúnen regularmente para planificar la instrucción basada en los datos de STAR para garantizar que podamos brindar a todos nuestros estudiantes la mejor y más efectiva instrucción posible. Continuamos cumpliendo nuestra misión y visión de conocer a cada estudiante por su nombre, fortaleza y necesidad.
Cuando volvamos a tomar el examen STAR en el invierno, compararemos los puntajes de referencia de otoño con los puntajes de referencia de invierno y mediremos cuánto crecimiento están logrando nuestros estudiantes en alfabetización temprana, lectura, lectura en español para estudiantes de lenguaje dual y matemáticas. Los hogares con niños y adolescentes (18 años o menos) están invitados a recibir comestibles gratis en el estacionamiento de la Escuela Secundaria West Oak en 17 de agosto de 5 a 6 pm. Las distribuciones de Summer Family Market utilizan un modelo sin contacto con drive-thru con comestibles pre-empacados. No se necesita registro, identificación o documentación.
