We did it! The first full week of school is done and in the books. This week our students continued to make West Oak Intermediate School an amazing place to work and learn! Below you will see important dates and upcoming events. Have an amazing weekend!
School Text Messages:
School updates are communicated regularly via email and text. Please contact the Main Office if you need to update your personal email. We also encourage families to sign up for our text messaging service which can be accessed here.
Bus Routes:
All eligible bus students have been notified of their pick up and drop off street intersections each day. Please refer to this ROUTE DOCUMENT for the times and locations of pickups and drop offs. This document can be accessed on our building website throughout the year. New to this year, 5th grade Band students will also be taking the middle school buses home in the afternoon, they will be assigned a route that coincides with their morning route. Please keep in mind that student pick up and drop off times will fluctuate the first few days of school as our drivers are still learning their routes and students are still learning our bus procedures. Families are also encouraged to opt into receiving instant notifications when delays or incidents affect their child’s bus times by creating an account with our Triversa Ride 360 app.
The first days of school are exciting and drop off can sometimes take longer than usual as we all settle into a routine. I want to let you all know that some buses may be a bit late while students, staff and drivers work to make drop off and pick up as smooth as possible. If you are wondering where your student’s bus is, please refer to the “Traversa Ride 360” app which will let you know where your bus is, or reach out to Lakeside Transportation (224) 433-6304.
Breakfast and Lunch:
All students in our district will be able to eat breakfast and lunch at no cost to families this year. We are working with a new food service provider this school year, and we are excited to announce that students will be able to choose between a hot and cold option each day. At the upcoming meet and greet event (8.16), a communication with more information on our lunch program will be in the packet.
Parent University:
Thank you everyone who attended our SEL Committee's first Parent University this week on the subject of our 1:1 Chromebook program. Our Director for Technology, Eric Hansen, gave insight on best practices as well as expectations for students in our district that were issued a Chromebook this year. A recording of this presentation is attached HERE if you missed this event. Our next Parent University will be on September 6th at 5:30pm and will be on the subject of our Executive Functioning program and how families can help their child be more organized. We hope to see you then!
Curriculum Night:
We are excited to announce that West Oak Campus is hosting Curriculum Night on Wednesday, 8/30. During this time, our teachers will be presenting on what they teach, why they teach it, and how students are assessed.
Google Classroom and PowerSchool:
All of our students will receive their Chromebooks next week. As a reminder, students should charge their Chromebooks each night and bring their Chromebook and charger to school every day. Teachers will be using Google Classroom to share assignments and due dates with students. Additionally, we encourage parents to get involved with how their child is doing in their classes by setting up an account through our Parent Portal. STAR Testing:
All students will be taking their first STAR benchmark exams on August 29th and 30th. The purpose of these exams is to monitor student growth in math and literacy throughout the year. Our STAR Math exam will be administered on Tuesday, 8/29, and the Star Reading exam on Wednesday, 8/30.

From the PTO:
D76 continues to work hard to build relationships and provide new learning opportunities and events not only within our individual schools and classrooms, but as a whole through the involvement of our families. Our Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) is a great way to get involved!
Innovation Learning:
Families looking for before and/or after school programming Innovation Learning provides these services up to five days a week. Here are the flyers in English/Spanish for more information.
Need Groceries?:
Households with kids and teens (18 or under) are invited to receive free groceries at the West Oak Middle School parking lot on August 17th from 5-6:30pm. Summer Family Market distributions use a contactless drive-thru model with pre-packed groceries. No registration, ID, or documentation is needed. Food is distributed on a first-come first-served basis, while supplies last.

Rutas de Autobus

Noche de Currículo:
Nos complace anunciar que West Oak Campus está organizando la Noche del Currículo el martes 8/29. Durante este tiempo, nuestros maestros presentarán lo que enseñan, por qué lo enseñan y cómo se evalúa a los estudiantes.
Google Classroom y PowerSchool:
Todos nuestros estudiantes recibirán sus Chromebooks la próxima semana. Como recordatorio, los estudiantes deben cargar sus Chromebooks cada noche y llevar su Chromebook y cargador a la escuela todos los días. Los profesores utilizarán Google Classroom para compartir tareas y fechas de vencimiento con los alumnos. Examenes de STAR :
Todos los estudiantes tomarán sus primeros exámenes de referencia STAR el 29 y 30 de agosto. El propósito de estos exámenes es monitorear el crecimiento de los estudiantes en matemáticas y alfabetización durante todo el año. Nuestro examen STAR de Matematicas se administrará el martes 8/29 y el examen STAR de Lectura el miércoles 8/30.

¿Necesitas despensas? :
Los hogares con niños y adolescentes (18 años o menos) están invitados a recibir comestibles gratis en el estacionamiento de West Oak Middle School el 17 de agosto de 5-6:30pm. Las distribuciones de Summer Family Market utilizan un modelo drive-thru sin contacto con comestibles pre envasados. No se necesita registro, identificación o documentación. Los alimentos se distribuyen por orden de llegada, hasta agotar existencias.
