We had an amazing week with multiple successes! A huge shout out goes to our Mayor’s Cup participants. I am proud to announce that our 5th grade team won the ENTIRE competition, 5th-12th grade. They had the highest overall score. Each of our students who participated placed. Way to represent WOIS! We have reached our goal of 100% of students growing on their F and P assessments. Thank you for reading with your students at home, and enriching their lives. STAR Testing: STAR Testing begins this week. On Tuesday 4.23 we will start with Math, and on Thursday 4.25 we will have ELA. Our goal is that 100% of students will gain growth on their score, we know they can! Please encourage your student to get a good night’s rest and come ready to show what they know. I can’t wait to celebrate their growth!
Erin’s Law: HERE is the letter for Erin’s Law recognition and permission. Erin’s Law is a required lesson by the state of Illinois. It helps students recognize dangerous or abusive situations and how to bring them up to a trusted adult, and seek help when needed. It is taught with great sensitivity, we do encourage you to have a conversation with your students about it. Erin’s law lessons will take place the week of May 6th.
ABC Countdown Calendar: Every year for the last 26 days of school we do a countdown with a theme for each letter.

AAPL Assessment: The APPL assessment will be offered starting the week of May 6th. The State of Illinois adopted the ACTFL (American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages) standards which D76 had previously adopted in 2018. We are excited to be able to provide the AAPPL Assessment to all 3-5 grade Dual language Students and Spanish learners for the first time. We will provide an assessment report to each student and family as near the end of May or after the end of the school year, depending on when the reports are made available. Summer Band Camp: Summer Band Camp begins on 6/17 and goes until 6/27 at Mundelein High School. Registration is open for 5th - 7th graders. More information can be found

“Fireman Tony” Events (Repeat Reminder): On April 24th, Fireman Tony will be attending WOIS to do a safety presentation for the 3rd and 5th graders, and on April 29th, he will be coming to WOIS to do an outdoor presentation with our 4th grade students.
Important Reminder: Summer Exploration ENDS TODAY: We already have over 200 registrations! WOW! Fly Up Days: At District 76 we believe that helping students acclimate and be prepared for changes in their lives is very important. Fly up days are coming, these days help our students in D76 to meet their teachers, become familiar with their surroundings, and celebrate their accomplishments. The 5th grade fly up day to West Oak Middle School will take place on May 9th at 1:00pm. The 2nd grade fly up day to West Oak Intermediate School will happen on May 14th. Medication Authorization Form: If your child needs to take medication of any kind throughout the school day, in response to allergies, or under specific circumstances, families are required to complete the D76 Medical Authorization form. Portions of the form must be completed by your child’s physician. Click

Summer Family Market distributions use a contactless drive-thru model with pre-packed groceries. No registration, ID, or documentation is needed. Food is distributed on a first-come first-served basis, while supplies last.

¡Tuvimos una semana increíble con múltiples éxitos! Un enorme grito va a nuestros participantes de la Copa de la Alcaldía. Estoy orgulloso de anunciar que nuestro equipo de 5to grado ganó TODA la competencia, 5to-12vo grado. Tuvieron la puntuación general más alta. Cada uno de nuestros estudiantes participaron colocados. ¡Manera de representar a WOIS! Hemos alcanzado nuestra meta de que el 100% de los estudiantes crezcan en sus evaluaciones F y P. Ley de Erin: AQUÍ está la carta para el reconocimiento y permiso de la Ley de Erin. La Ley de Erin es una lección requerida por el estado de Illinois. Ayuda a los estudiantes a reconocer situaciones peligrosas o abusivas y cómo llevarlos a un adulto de confianza, y buscar ayuda cuando sea necesario. Evaluación AAPL: La evaluación APPL se ofrecerá a partir de la semana del 6 de mayo. Días de volar: En el Distrito 76 creemos que es muy importante ayudar a los estudiantes a aclimatarse y estar preparados para los cambios en sus vidas. Los días de volar se acercan, estos días ayudan a nuestros estudiantes en D76 a conocer a sus maestros, familiarizarse con su ambiente y celebrar sus logros. El día de vuelo de 5to grado a la secundaria tendrá lugar el 9 de mayo. El día de volar de 2 grado a la Escuela West Oak Intermedia se llevará a cabo el 14 de mayo.
