Athletics and Extracurricular Activities
At West Oak Middle school students are encouraged to participate in extracurricular athletics and clubs throughout their middle school experience. Please keep in mind that certain sports must adhere to grade level requirements. The grade levels for each sport are listed below.
Eligibility
Students must have a current sports physical on file before trying out for or participating in any interscholastic athletic program. Students and parents may contact the school nurse to verify that this requirement has been met.
To remain eligible for extracurricular activities, students must maintain above a 2 average in Academic and Enrichment courses and have minimal missing work. Grades are reviewed every two weeks to monitor eligibility and academic progress.
Eligibility Steps
Step 1: Warning and Parent Notification
Students receiving three or more “No” responses will receive a warning, and their parent or guardian will be notified.
Step 2: One Week Removal
If the student athlete does not demonstrate progress toward improving their grades, they will be removed from the team for one week.
Step 3: Removal for the Season
If eligibility concerns continue, the student athlete will be removed from the team for the remainder of the season.
