Dear Friends and Families of West Oak Middle School:
Our sports and activities are off and running! It was great seeing our Cross-Country team racing this week with their new uniforms. Please check our website for upcoming practices and games for all sports. Our clubs will be starting near the end of September. Please be on the lookout for information about the clubs we will be offering. And as a reminder, we do not have school this upcoming Monday and Tuesday due to Labor Day and Rosh Hashanah. Please see below for important information.
Agendas: This week the students were given agendas, aka “student planners,” in order to record their daily assignments and due dates. Please have your student show you their agendas each night in order to keep-up with the work students need to complete. PowerSchool is a great way to check student grades on different assignments, but the agenda will provide even better communication between home and school. The agenda is part of our Executive Functioning initiative, where we focus on strategies to help students stay organized and set goals. We will continue to roll-out other initiatives related to Executive Functioning in the next few weeks.
Late-Run Buses: Every Monday-Thursday we will have a 4:30pm bus and a 5:00pm bus for students participating in after-school activities. Please be aware that these bus routes are significantly longer than the regular bus route because they drive the entire perimeter of the district. If your student arrives home significantly after the bus leaves, this is likely completely normal. If you ever have a concern with the late bus after the school office closes, you can email Peter Cunningham, Principal, at [email protected] or Brandon Pedersen, Assistant Principal, at [email protected]. You can also call Lakeside, our bus company, at 224-433-6304.
Bus Information: Families are encouraged to opt-in to our if they would like to receive instant notifications when delays or incidents affect their student's bus by registering with Bus Bulletin.
Water Bottles: We have a number of water-bottle filling stations around the school. It is highly recommended that your student bring a water bottle to school labeled with their name.
6th Grade Families: Please turn-in your medical forms to Julie Marchese, our nurse, as soon as possible. Her email is [email protected].
From the PTO: The PTO is having a “Back to School Bash” on Friday, September 10th from 5:30PM-8:00PM. Volunteers are needed, and a survey will be coming out shortly. The spirit-wear store is currently open, but will close September 13th. So, all orders need to be in by then.
