September 16th: Diamond Lake School Weekly Updates

Dear Diamond Lake School (DLS) Families,

What a terrific week at DLS!  Students did an excellent job with our Bus Evacuation Drill and classrooms are well underway with their English Language Arts and Math units.  Intervention services started this week and students have adjusted to our routines and practices.

Now that the school year is off and running, we would like to provide some suggestions in terms of adjusting to the school routine at home.  Student attendance and punctuality are crucial for the success of all students.  Regularly scheduled bedtimes and morning wakeup times are a great way to ensure students are sleeping for a sufficient amount of time and taking enough time in the morning to prepare for the school day.  We would also like to encourage families to schedule time in their evening to read, practice Math facts, handwriting, or any other skills that would contribute to your child’s success.  HERE is an additional helpful tool from the Child Mind Institute regarding back to school routines and connections between home and school.

We are also working closely with students to get back into our safety and behavior guidelines.  Here at DLS, we have a committee of staff who meet monthly to discuss different strategies and initiatives that we put in place to positively reinforce student behavior and create a sense of accomplishment for them.  Through the use of PBIS, Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports, our students will be earning recognition cards and working towards different incentives!  This is a great program to also incorporate at home as you work with your children to follow routines.  For more information on how to incorporate PBIS at home, click HERE for a direct link for families to the Center on PBIS.
