Dear Diamond Lake School (DLS) Families,
It may have been a short week of school, but DLS was busy with lessons, learning, and fun! Now that the school year is officially underway, students are engaging in a variety of academic activities, building relationships with their peers and teachers, and embarking on new experiences in their Specials classes.
At the start of each school year, we also assess student performance in both English Language Arts (ELA) and Math to gain knowledge and an understanding of academic performance to build a foundation for student learning. Grade level teams and the Intervention Team carefully analyze the data to determine services and supports that students may need to be successful. In addition, teachers use this data to determine how they can differentiate their instruction and to meet the needs of all of their students while also appropriately challenging them.
The STAR Assessment is a district wide assessment tool that we use to measure student growth K-8th Grade. Through the use of this assessment, we are able to track student progress from the Fall to the Winter to the Spring. From DLS to West Oak Intermediate School to West Oak Middle School, we also use this assessment to track students’ overall academic progress during their entire educational experience in District 76. New this year, we have started using the STAR Assessment in the Fall for Kindergarten students as well. By assessing student performance from the very start of a student’s enrollment with us, we are able to identify key elements in which students thrive and areas for further development and growth. Individual STAR score sheets will be sent home with your child within the next two weeks. For additional information regarding the STAR Assessment, click HERE for the STAR Family Resource page.
This Monday, September 12th is our first Late Start Day of the school year. School begins at 9:10 am on Late Start Days at DLS. Students are permitted into the building starting at 8:55 am. Lakeside Transportation created new pick-up times for all morning bus stops and routes. Click HERE for the Late Start bus route information. You will see a tab at the bottom of the spreadsheet labeled Late Start with all the bus route information. These routes will remain the same for Late Start Days for the remainder of the school year. Please remember that this is the first Late Start Day of the school year. Please be patient as bus drivers adjust to this schedule. Breakfast is also served on Late Start Days.
Have a great weekend, and I look forward to seeing all of you at the Back to School Bash tonight, 5:30-8:00 pm at the West Oak Campus!

Dra. Érica Berger
