Dear Friends and Families of West Oak Middle School:
Today we are celebrating being a School To Watch with our students! Every student will be receiving a t-shirt and will be participating in fun activities in the afternoon. From this point forward, there will be a lot of important logistical information in the parent letters that will likely repeat each week. Also, our month of Spirit Days continues! McTeacher Night: Our next PTO fundraiser will be May 23rd at McDonalds from 5pm to 8pm. Come out and be served by some of your favorite teachers! Please see the flyer in English and Spanish for more information.
Parent University: A big thank you to Carliann Pentz and Daisy Carrera for presenting this week's Parent University on the subject of, "Understanding and Promoting Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion." Thank you for all that attended, and here is the recording if you missed the presentation. The SEL Committee's next, and final Parent University will feature each of District 76's principals on the subject of, "Building Home and School Partnerships Through Summer Break." This is scheduled for May 11th at 6:30pm. We hope to see you there!

2022-2023 Class Choices: Our incoming 6th, 7th and 8th grade students are going to be asked to rank-order their choices for our four ENCORE classes next year. In the past, students in Band or Choir were unable to take music, and students that were not in Band or Choir were unable to take our STEM class, called FUSE. We are going to open-up all classes to all students next year. The four classes are Art, Digital Media Arts (DMA), FUSE, and Music.
Additionally, all incoming 7th grade students have another choice. Students can choose to take Spanish in 7th and 8th grade instead of the four ENCORE classes. Students may want to choose this option if they are going to pursue a foreign language in high school and want to start in Spanish 2. Students do NOT get high school credit for taking the course.
More information regarding all class options can be found in the forms that families need to fill-out. Class descriptions can be found here. Please talk with your students and fill-out the form appropriate to your student’s grade level for the 2022-2023 school-year.

8th Grade Promotion: Our 8th Grade Promotion Ceremony will be held on Thursday, May 26th, at 6:00pm. The event will be held in the West Oak Gymnasium. Each family will receive 5 tickets per student. The tickets will be given to the students in May. Please click on the Promotion Announcement in English and Spanish, and click on the list of upcoming 8th Grade important dates in English and Spanish.
The 8th grade dance committee is holding a volunteer meeting for the 8th Grade Dance on April 26 at West Oak in the library at 6:00pm. If you are interested in helping with the dance, please join them. They will also send out a zoom link early next week if you would prefer to attend virtually.

Summer Dual Language Program: District 76 is excited to announce that we will be able to offer a Summer Dual Language Program! Diamond Lake School District is offering Dual Language for Summer Learning FOR STUDENTS CURRENTLY ENROLLED IN DUAL LANGUAGE. Dual Language will be held during the first session of Summer Learning for all students currently in K-7th grade, and offered during the second session for grades 2nd-7th. Dual Language classes will be grouped in grade level clusters. Dual Language will be taught as K-1st, 2nd-4th and 5th-7th clusters. K-1st will only be available for Session 1. Grades 2nd-4th and 5th-7th will be taught both sessions. Class will be on Monday through Thursday, from 8:00-11:30 am. There is no school on Monday, June 20th. IF YOU HAVE ALREADY SIGNED YOUR CHILD UP FOR SUMMER LEARNING AND WOULD RATHER ENROLL THEM IN DUAL LANGUAGE, PLEASE COMPLETE THIS FORM AND WE WILL REMOVE YOUR CHILD'S GENERAL EDUCATION SUMMER LEARNING REGISTRATION.
Summer Learning Registration: The District 76 Summer Learning Program is now open for registration. Please click on this link to register. Summer Learning will be held over two sessions. Session 1 will be held June 6-June 30, Monday through Thursday each week, from 8-11:30am. Session 2 will be held August 1- August 12, Monday through Thursday both weeks, from 8-11:30am. You will have the option to sign up for either session or both.

2022-2023 Elecciones de clase: Se les pedirá a nuestros estudiantes entrantes de 6.º, 7.º y 8.º grado que ordenen sus opciones para nuestras cuatro clases ENCORE el próximo año. En el pasado, los estudiantes de Banda o Coro no podían tomar música, y los estudiantes que no estaban en Banda o Coro no podían tomar nuestra clase STEM, llamada FUSE. Vamos a abrir todas las clases a todos los estudiantes el próximo año. Las cuatro clases son Arte, Artes de Medios Digitales (DMA), FUSE y Música.
Además, todos los estudiantes que ingresan al 7º grado tienen otra opción. Los estudiantes pueden elegir tomar español en 7.° y 8.° grado en lugar de las cuatro clases ENCORE. Los estudiantes pueden elegir esta opción si van a estudiar un idioma extranjero en la escuela secundaria y quieren comenzar en español. 2. Los estudiantes NO obtienen crédito de escuela secundaria por tomar el curso.

Promoción de 8.º grado: Nuestra ceremonia de promoción de 8.º grado se llevará a cabo el jueves 26 de mayo a las 6:00 p. m. El evento se llevará a cabo en el West Oak Gymnasium. Cada familia recibirá 5 boletos por alumno. Los boletos se entregarán a los estudiantes en mayo. Por favor haga clic en el Anuncio de Promoción en Inglés y Español, y haga clic en la lista de próximas fechas importantes de 8vo Grado en Inglés y Español.
El comité de baile de 8º grado llevará a cabo una reunión de voluntarios para el baile de 8º grado el 26 de abril en la biblioteca de West Oak a las 6:00 p. m. Si está interesado en ayudar con el baile, únase a ellos. También enviarán un enlace de zoom a principios de la próxima semana si prefiere asistir virtualmente.

Programa de Lenguaje Dual de Verano: ¡El Distrito 76 se complace en anunciar que podremos ofrecer un Programa de Lenguaje Dual de Verano! El distrito escolar de Diamond Lake ofrece clases de lenguaje dual para el aprendizaje de verano PARA ESTUDIANTES ACTUALMENTE INSCRITOS EN UNA CLASE DUAL. Las clases de lenguaje dual se llevarán a cabo durante la primera sesión de aprendizaje de verano para todos los grados K-7 y se ofrecerá durante la segunda sesión para los grados 2-7. Las clases de lenguaje dual se agruparán en grupos de nivel de grado/ El lenguaje dual se enseñará como grupos K-1, 2-4 y 5-7. K-1 sólo estará disponible para la sesión 1. Registro de Aprendizaje de Verano: El Programa de Aprendizaje de Verano del Distrito 76 ya está abierto para el registro. Por favor, haga clic en este enlace para registrarse. El aprendizaje de verano se llevará a cabo en dos sesiones. La sesión 1 se llevará a cabo del 6 al 30 de junio, de lunes a jueves de cada semana, de 8:00 a. m. a 11:30 a. m. La sesión 2 se llevará a cabo del 1 al 12 de agosto, de lunes a jueves, ambas semanas, de 8:00 a. m. a 11:30 a. m. Tendrá la opción de inscribirse en cualquiera de las sesiones o en ambas.
