WOIS News
Happy Passover and Easter!
Friday, April 2nd, No School
There is no school tomorrow, April 2nd, in observance of Good Friday.
Early Release and Inservice Day
This Monday, 4.5 will be an early release day. Dismissal will be at 11:30am for WOIS.
Virtual Coffee with the WOIS Principal
Please join Mr. Preble for Virtual Coffee with the Principal on Thursday, April 8th at 10:00am. A link to the meeting will be shared out on Monday.
Picture Day Update
Due to the return of all in person learning students on Monday, April 12th, we have revised our picture day schedule. We will have picture day for all in person learners on Thursday, April 15th only. We will still be hosting a picture day event for all Remote Learners on Monday, April 12th from 4-8pm at the West Oak Middle School gym. An online appointment schedule for the evening of Monday, April 12th will be shared with families soon.
In Person Learning Transitions to 5 Days Each Week
Beginning Monday, April 12th, students whose families chose In Person Learning will begin attending all 5 days of the week for the remainder of the school year. Here is some important information specific to West Oak Intermediate School:
The WOIS Schedule will stay the same
Building procedures for student entry, dismissal, classrooms, hallway, lunch and recess will stay the same
Lunch periods will be split. Grade levels will still have lunch and recess at the same time, however, we will be dividing each grade level into two groups, one to eat first while one goes to recess first, then switching. This will allow us to keep social distancing guidelines in the lunchroom/gym with our increased numbers.
Morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up procedures will remain the same. Please see the instructions and map below.
WOIS Return to School Video
WOIS Drop-Off and Pick-Up Procedures
Morning Drop-Off will take place between 7:50 and 8:00am each day. Please do not drop your student off before 7:50 as we will not have supervision available until 7:50. On full school days, pick-up is at 2:55pm, with early dismissal pick-up at 11:30am. All in person learning students that are being dropped off or picked up in a car will use our WOIS Main Entrance, Door #8. Please complete the full parking lot loop. See the map below for guidance
Smile Dentist is Coming!!
Smile Dentist is coming to the West Oak Campus on May 7th, 2021. Please see this attached registration form for additional information.
School Lunch
Hot lunch is offered to all District 76 students, free of charge. If your student would like hot lunch, it will be available each day, and you do not need to order it. If you would like to know what is being served, the Food Services web page is linked here. Just click on the drop down menu to view the monthly hot lunch menu. Curbside pick-up is from 11:00am - 1:00pm on Tuesday and Friday at the West Oak Campus.

SEL Committee Updates
We hope you learned and enjoyed a few items from our March theme of Digital Media Awareness. In April, we will transition into Mental Health Awareness due to what social workers observe in the spring called Seasonal Affective Disorder. (SAD) During this month we are excited to offer students, parents, and teachers a variety of resources centered around mental health. We hope you find this meaningful and a way to open up conversations with your child. Feel free to reach out to Brandon Pedersen at [email protected] if you have any questions or thoughts on this subject.
Happiness Advantage Update: Can we prolong happiness in our life? The answer is yes! Studies have shown that when we change our mindset from a negative mindset to a more positive outlook, things begin to shift. What we knew before as an impossible struggle, we can begin to look at it as a challenge that has yet to be conquered. At the very least, these challenges help stretch our skills and abilities and help us grow as individuals. There are certain principles that can begin shifting our mindsets to reflect positive thoughts and see the fruit of what it means to have a deeper sense of happiness and joy that can last a lifetime. Having principles like bringing positivity into our workspace or home, honoring the value of breaks, setting goals and finding a purpose in the different areas of our lives, looking for the positives in a realistic world, and using our mistakes and struggles as momentum to propel us forward are some ways to help keep happiness going longer. We can learn to speak uplifting words to our colleagues, friends, and neighbors, celebrate each others’ wins, leave room for growth and try new things. Go on, let’s give it a try and seek out what fulfilling treasures we find in our everyday lives that bring us longer lasting happiness.

Actualización de dia de Fotos
Debido al regreso de todos los estudiantes de aprendizaje en persona el Lunes 12 de Abril, hemos modificado nuestro horario de día de foto. Tendremos un día de fotos para solamente todos los estudiantes de aprendizaje en persona el día Jueves 15 de Abril. También estaremos organizando un evento de fotos para todos los estudiantes remotos el Lunes 12 de Abril de 4pm a 8pm en el gimnasio de la secundaria West Oak. Pronto se compartirá con las familias un horario de citas en línea para la noche del Lunes 12 de Abril.
Aprendizaje En Persona transiciona a 5 días cada semana
Empezando el Lunes 12 de Abril, los padres que escogieron aprendizaje en persona asistirán los 5 días de la semana para el resto del año escolar. Aquí hay información importante específica para la Escuela Intermedia West Oak:
El horario de WOIS permanecerá igual
Los procedimientos de edificio para la entrada, salida, salón, pasillo, almuerzo y recreo permanecerán igual.
Los periodos de almuerzo se dividirán. Los niveles de grado seguirán teniendo almuerzo y recreo al mismo tiempo, sin embargo, dividiremos cada grado en dos grupos, uno para comer primero y uno va a recreo primero, luego cambian. Esto nos permitirá mantener las pautas de distanciamiento social en el comedor/gimnasio con nuestros números aumentados.

En días completos de la escuela, el tiempo de recoger a sus hijos es 2:55pm, cuando la salida es más temprana, el tiempo para recoger a sus hijos es 11:30am. Todos los estudiantes que vendrán en persona que van a ser dejados o recogidos en un carro, usarán la puerta principal a WOIS, puerta #8. Por favor complete el circuito completo del estacionamiento. Almuerzo De La Escuela
Se les ofrecerá almuerzo caliente a todos los estudiantes del distrito 76 de forma gratuita. Si su estudiante desea almuerzo caliente, estará disponible todos los días, y usted no necesita pedirlo. Actualizaciones del Comité SEL
Esperamos que haya aprendido y disfrutado de algunos artículos de nuestro tema de marzo de la conciencia de los medios digitales. En Abril, vamos a pasar a la conciencia de Salud Mental debido a lo que los trabajadores sociales observan en la primavera llamada trastorno afectivo estacional. (SAD) Durante este mes estamos entusiasmados de ofrecer a los estudiantes, padres y maestros una variedad de recursos centrados en la salud mental. Esperamos que encuentre esto significativo y una manera de abrir conversaciones con su hijo. Actualizaciones de las ventajas de felicidad: ¿Podemos alargar la felicidad en nuestras vidas? ¡La respuesta es sí! Estudios han enseñado que cuando cambiamos nuestra mentalidad de una mentalidad negativa a ver más con positividad, las cosas empiezan a cambiar. Lo que conocíamos antes como una lucha imposible, podemos empezar a ver como un desafío que no hemos conquistado todavía. Por lo menos, estos desafíos nos ayudan a estirar nuestras habilidades y nos ayudan a crecer como individuos. Hay unos principios que pueden empezar a cambiar nuestra mentalidad para reflejar pensamientos positivos y ver el fruto de lo que significa tener una felicidad y un gozo más profundo que dura una vida eterna. Teniendo principios como trayendo positividad en tu trabajo o casa, honrando lo valioso de los descansos, formando metas y encontrando un propósito en las áreas diferentes de nuestra vida, buscando lo positivo en un mundo real y usando nuestras fallas y luchas como empuje para ayudarnos a seguir adelante son cosas que nos ayudan que la felicidad siga por más tiempo. Podemos aprender a decir palabras de levantamiento a nuestros colegas, amigos y vecinos, celebrar logros de cada uno y dejar espacio para crecer y tratar cosas diferentes. Vayamos, vamos a tratar esto y buscar los tesoros en nuestras vidas diarias que nos traerán una felicidad que durará por más tiempo.
