Dear Friends and Families of West Oak Middle School:
We are headed into a very busy time of year here at West Oak! We have a number of things happening between now and Thanksgiving, so see below for important information. Please note that Picture Day will be October 26th. And congratulations to our Boy’s Soccer team, who took 2nd in our conference tournament!
Red Ribbon Week: We are excited to announce that next week is Red Ribbon Week! Red Ribbon Week is all about being drug-free, and next week our focus is on why we choose to be drug-free. Our Stevenson Catalyst team has planned daily activities, and we will have theme days each day next week. Please click here to see the theme days. Please note that on Friday students can wear costumes to school. We ask that costumes are appropriate and students do not bring any type of look-alike weapons.
Winter Sports: Our next round of sports begins next week. Boy’s Basketball tryouts for 8th grade will be Monday, October 25th after school. Tryouts for 7th grade will be Tuesday, October 26th. There will be an informational meeting for all students interested in being part of our Cheer/Spirit Squad Monday, October 25th after school. Buses will be provided for all activities.
PTO Luke’s Fundraiser: Thank you to the PTO for hosting a great ice cream day this past week! On November 2nd the PTO will be hosting a dine-out fundraiser event at Luke’s in Mundelein. Please bring this flyer in English or Spanish or mention Diamond Lake when you order. Thank you!
Curriculum Night: West Oak Middle School will be hosting a virtual Curriculum Night for our families on Monday, November 8th, from 7pm-8pm. Presentations will repeat for families who have students in multiple grade-levels. There will be some time for parents to ask individual questions about the curriculum as well. Here is the breakdown of how the evening will go and the different groups of teachers so you can plan your evening. We will add the links to the Google Meets the night before.
Parent-Teacher Conferences: Parent/Teacher Conferences will be held on November 22nd from 1pm-8pm. Families will meet with individual teachers for 10 minutes and will be given the option to meet virtually or in-person. The scholastic book fair will also be available during conferences. Sign-ups will open on November 1st. Please note that the end of the grading period is November 5th for trimester one.
Meet the Mustangs: Mundelein High School will be hosting the annual Meet the Mustangs Event at Mundelein High School on October 25th 6pm. This event is for incoming 8th grade students and their families. Please click on this flyer for more information
7th Grade Field Trip: We are pleased to announce that 7th grade will be taking our first field trip of the year to the Naper Settlement on October 28th. Thanks to the PTO, there will be no cost for this trip. Please click the permission slip link for more information.
Clubs and Tutorial: Our clubs and Tutorial are beginning this month. Please click here to read about each club and when they will be meeting. These dates will also appear on our website calendar. Next week’s parent communication will have detailed information about different clubs with meeting dates and sponsors.
Tutorial will be offered Monday-Thursday from 3:30 to 4:30pm. This time is an opportunity to complete schoolwork with the support of a teacher, and some students will be invited to work on literacy and math skills. Tutorial will begin on October 4th. Students do not need a permission slip to attend. A late bus is provided for students attending Tutorial.
Coffee with the Principals: We will be resuming Coffee with the Principals this year, and we hope that you will join us! Our first event will be November 10th at 9:00am. This event will be in-person. More details will be coming soon.

Estimados amigos y familias de la escuela secundaria West Oak:
Nos dirigimos a una época del año muy ocupada aquí en West Oak! Tenemos una serie de cosas que sucederán desde ahora hasta el Día de Acción de Gracias, así que consulte a continuación para obtener información importante. Semana del Listón Rojo: Nos complace anunciar que la próxima semana es la Semana del Listón Rojo! La Semana del Listón Rojo tiene que ver con estar libres de drogas, y la próxima semana nos enfocaremos en por qué elegimos estar libres de drogas. Nuestro equipo de Stevenson Catalyst ha planificado actividades diarias y tendremos días temáticos cada día la semana que viene. Haga clic aquí para ver los días temáticos. Tenga en cuenta que los viernes los estudiantes pueden usar disfraces en la escuela. Pedimos que los disfraces sean apropiados y que los estudiantes no traigan ningún tipo de armas que se parezcan.
Deportes de invierno: Nuestra próxima ronda de deportes comienza la semana que viene. Las pruebas de baloncesto masculino para el octavo grado serán el Lunes 25 de Octubre después de la escuela. Las pruebas para el 7º grado serán el Martes 26 de Octubre. Habrá una reunión informativa para todos los estudiantes interesados en ser parte de nuestro equipo de animadoras / espíritu el Lunes 25 de Octubre después de la escuela. Se proporcionarán autobuses para todas las actividades.
Recaudación de fondos del PTO Luke's: Gracias al PTO por organizar un gran día de helados la semana pasada! El 2 de Noviembre, el PTO organizará un evento de recaudación de fondos para cenar fuera en Luke's en Mundelein. Por favor traiga este folleto en inglés o español o mencione Diamond Lake cuando haga su pedido. ¡Gracias!
Noche de Currículo: La Escuela Intermedia West Oak organizará una Noche de Currículo virtual para nuestras familias el Lunes 8 de Noviembre, de 7 pm a 8 pm. Las presentaciones se repetirán para las familias que tienen estudiantes en varios niveles de grado. También habrá algo de tiempo para que los padres hagan preguntas individuales sobre el plan de estudios. Aquí está el desglose de cómo será la velada y los diferentes grupos de profesores para que pueda planificar su velada. Agregaremos los enlaces a Google Meets la noche anterior.
Conferencias de padres y maestros: Las conferencia de padres y maestros se llevarán a cabo el 22 de Noviembre de 1 pm a 8 pm. Las familias se reunirán con maestros individuales durante 10 minutos y se les dará la opción de reunirse virtualmente o en persona. La feria del libro escolar también estará disponible durante las conferencias. Las inscripciones se abrirán el 1 de Noviembre. Tenga en cuenta que el final del período de calificaciones es el 5 de Noviembre para el primer trimestre.
Conoce a los Mustangs: Mundelein High School será el anfitrión del evento anual Meet the Mustangs en Mundelein High School el 25 de Octubre a las 6 pm. Este evento es para los estudiantes que ingresan al octavo grado y sus familias. Haga clic en este volante para obtener más información.

La tutoría se ofrecerá de Lunes a Jueves de 3:30 a 4:30 pm. Esta vez es una oportunidad para completar el trabajo escolar con el apoyo de un maestro, y se invitará a algunos estudiantes a trabajar en alfabetización y matemáticas. El tutorial comenzará el 4 de Octubre. Los estudiantes no necesitan una hoja de permiso para asistir. Se proporciona un autobús tardío para los estudiantes que asisten a la tutoría.
Café con los directores: ¡Reanudaremos Café con los directores este año y esperamos que se una a nosotros! Nuestro primer evento será el 10 de Noviembre a las 9:00 am. Este evento será en persona. Más detalles vendrán pronto.
