Dear Diamond Lake School (DLS) Families,
Pizza party Monday! Here we come! DLS would like to extend our sincere thanks and gratitude for your participation in our Parent Engagement Survey last month. DLS won for the most parent participation, and we will be hosting an all school pizza party for our students this Monday, January 24th. During their lunch periods, students will receive a slice of cheese pizza from Bill’s Pizza in Mundelein along with fruit, veggies, and milk provided by Quest food service. Please be aware we will not be offering an additional hot lunch option on Monday. Students who choose not to participate in our pizza party are welcome to bring their own lunch from home.
This year DLS focused on social emotional learning (SEL) as we helped students transition back to in-person learning and welcomed students into the building for the very first time. In the next few months, each building will have students presenting at a Board meeting to highlight some of the most meaningful lessons throughout the school year. Tuesday, April 5th, students from DLS will be live on stage presenting about their SEL experiences such as Positive Behavior and Intervention Supports (PBIS) training at the start of the year, Operation Snowball Day, Cub Cards, Bus Cub Cards, Berger Wall of Fame, classroom incentives, and an upcoming project called “Community Cuddles.”
Since March 2020, every community has gone through rapid change, the closing of businesses, and the loss of loved ones. It is our turn to give back to our community through simple acts of kindness and provide the surge of positivity that we all need. Each month, February-May, students will be spreading kindness throughout our community:
February- Students will be creating valentines that will be delivered to three local assisted living facilities to share with their residents.
March- Donated to us from two local Jewel locations, students will be decorating brown paper bags by writing positive words of encouragement, phrases, and visual kindness symbols. The bags will then be delivered back to the Jewel check out lines where customers will have their groceries placed in our bags.
April- Students will be writing thank you notes to the Mundelein Police and Fire Departments as well as Lake County Sheriff's Department, and Countryside Fire Department for keeping us safe and teaching us fire prevention.
May- This is an end of the year surprise for all families! Students will be preparing a heartfelt message for all of you as a thank you for your love and support throughout the school year. Our message will be delivered to your email on the last day of school.
Each of these activities will be our way of providing a COVID safe air hug or better yet, a community cuddle.
Students will also be recognizing one another for their random acts of kindness in the classroom. Students will nominate one another for being kind and enter their names in a drawing. 10 students will be selected at random from the drawing to go on mini field trips with me to deliver our community cuddles!

Principal Coffee Talk
ATTN: DATE CHANGE! On Tuesday, February 8th D76 will be hosting Coffee Talk with our Principals. Mr. Peter Cunningham, Mr. Brandon Pedersen, Mr. Kurt Preble, and Dr. Erica Berger will be joining together to work with the community to answer any questions you may have or discuss various topics brought to the table. This will be a virtual meeting and a link will be provided closer to the meeting date.
Parent University
The SEL Committee offered another Parent University on 1.13.22 centered on the subject of "Cybersecurity and Social Media Awareness." If you were not able to attend this event it can be viewed here. Thank you to Eric Hansen and Sheriff Deputy Francis Foy for offering a lot of great information to parents on how to keep themselves and their children safe.

In an effort to keep everyone safe, healthy and well, you may get tested for COVID-19 at testing locations in the area. Please click HERE for locations, dates and hours of FREE testing sites regardless of symptoms.
Students and families in need within our community have benefited from the support of our Welcome Center/ Centro de Bienvenida, Coat Drives, Holiday Drives, Spring Basket events, Food Drives, Parent Education nights, and more. We continue strengthening our partnership with surrounding districts and local agencies to provide these free resources for our D76 families.

Estimadas Familias de la Escuela Diamond Lake (DLS),
¡Lunes fiesta de pizza! ¡Aquí vamos! DLS quisiera extender nuestro más sincero agradecimiento y gratitud por su participación en nuestra Encuesta de Participación de los Padres el mes pasado. DLS ganó por la mayor participación de los padres, y estaremos organizando una fiesta de pizza para toda la escuela para nuestros estudiantes este lunes 24 de enero. Durante sus períodos de almuerzo, los estudiantes recibirán una porción de pizza de queso de Bill 's Pizza junto con frutas, verduras y leche proporcionada por el servicio de alimentos Quest. Tenga en cuenta que no ofreceremos una opción adicional de almuerzo caliente el lunes. Los estudiantes que decidan no participar en nuestra fiesta de pizza pueden traer su propio almuerzo de casa.
Este año, DLS se enfocó en el aprendizaje socioemocional (SEL) mientras ayudamos a los estudiantes a hacer la transición de regreso al aprendizaje en persona y les dimos la bienvenida al edificio por primera vez. Desde marzo de 2020, todas las comunidades han pasado por cambios rápidos, el cierre de negocios y la pérdida de seres queridos. Es nuestro turno de retribuir a nuestra comunidad a través de simples actos de bondad y brindar la oleada de positividad que todos necesitamos. Cada mes, de febrero a mayo, los estudiantes demostraran bondad en toda nuestra comunidad:
Febrero: los estudiantes crearán tarjetas de San Valentín que se entregarán en tres centros locales de vida asistida para compartir con sus residentes.
Marzo- Donado a nosotros de dos ubicaciones locales de Jewel, los estudiantes decorarán bolsas de papel escribiendo palabras positivas de aliento, frases y símbolos visuales de amabilidad. Luego, las bolsas se devolverán a las líneas de salida de Jewel, donde los clientes colocarán sus compras en nuestras bolsas.
Abril: los estudiantes escribirán notas de agradecimiento a los departamentos de policía y bomberos de Mundelein, así como al Departamento del Sheriff del Condado de Lake y al departamento de bomberos de Countryside por mantenernos seguros y enseñarnos a prevenir incendios.
Mayo- ¡Esta es una sorpresa de fin de año para todas las familias! Los estudiantes prepararán un mensaje para todos ustedes como agradecimiento por su amor y apoyo durante todo el año escolar. Nuestro mensaje será entregado a su correo electrónico el último día de clases.
Cada una de estas actividades será nuestra forma de brindar un abrazo de aire seguro de COVID o, mejor aún, un abrazo comunitario.
Los estudiantes también se reconocerán por sus actos de bondad en su salón de clases. Los estudiantes se nominarán unos a otros por ser amables y escribirán sus nombres en un sorteo. ¡Se seleccionarán 10 estudiantes del sorteo para ir en mini paseos conmigo para entregar abrazos a nuestra comunidad!

Café con la Directora
ATENCIÓN: ¡CAMBIO DE FECHA! El martes 8 de febrero, el D76 organizará Café con nuestros directores. El Sr. Peter Cunningham, el Sr. Brandon Pedersen, el Sr. Kurt Preble y la Dra. Erica Berger se unirán para trabajar con la comunidad para responder cualquier pregunta que pueda tener o hablar sobre varios temas presentados.
Universidad de Padres
El Comité SEL ofreció otra Universidad para padres el 13 de enero 2022 centrada en el tema "Ciberseguridad y conciencia de las redes sociales". Si no pudo asistir a este evento, puede verlo aquí. Gracias a Eric Hansen y al Diputado del alguacil Francis Foy por ofrecer mucha información excelente a los padres sobre cómo protegerse a sí mismos y a sus hijos.
