Dear Diamond Lake School (DLS) Families,
We look forward to welcoming all of you to Parent Teacher Conferences on Thursday. This student-led conference is a great time for families, students, and teachers to reflect on progress throughout the school year and set continuous goals. If you have not signed up for a conference time, please do so immediately. Click HERE to view available times. Please remember that Parent Teacher Conferences are incredibly important for students and families of all grade levels. This provides teachers and families the opportunity to build a partnership between home and school. It is also beneficial to come to Parent Teacher Conferences prepared with any questions or concerns that you may have regarding your child’s performance. Teachers and students will be prepared to explain curriculum and instruction, skill levels, social emotional learning, and day-to-day routines in the classroom. Please also be aware that Thursday, March 22nd is an 11:00 am Early Release for students and there is NO SCHOOL on Friday, March 23rd.
DLS will also be hosting the Spring Book Fair during Parent Teacher Conferences. Students took a sneak peek and have created wish lists of some of their favorite items. The Book Fair will be open 12:00-7:00 pm. All families are welcome to attend. If you are having your Parent Teacher Conference via Google Meet, you are more than welcome to stop by the Book Fair as well.
March Madness is a great time of year for college basketball, and this year we created our own madness; DLS March Madness: Tournament of PBIS Champions. Our sixteen homerooms will play for a Pizza Party on Monday, April 3rd. Each class will be working to score the most CUB Cards. Positive behavior, kindness, following classroom rules, and going above and beyond to be respectful, responsible, and safe will help each homeroom to fill their basket with CUB Cards. At the end of each school day next week, we will count the number of cards each homeroom earned to determine who moves on to the Elite 8, Final 4, and the Championship. The winning homeroom will be announced on Thursday before we leave for our Early Release. Click HERE to view the brackets and please be sure to encourage your children to show exceptional behaviors. At DLS, we continue to work on being respectful, responsible, and safe. Students are earning CUB Cards and voting between these choices: Classroom Karaoke, Western Day (Dress like a cowboy/girl), and Show and Tell Day. In an effort to continue our connection between home and school with the fundamentals of PBIS, we are continuing to challenge each family to participate in our cool weekly check-in! Each week the PBIS Committee is posting a question for families to discuss with their children. Then, students are asked to draw a picture, make a list, or post answers and a photo on Seesaw. Students who share their at home PBIS work with their homeroom teacher will earn a CUB Card and a Community Cuddles Card! Huge rewards for their hard work!
Weekly PBIS Challenge #5: : Respect is a key component to learning and growth both at school and at home. Discuss with your child how they show respect to family members. Have your child draw a picture or write about their respectful behavior and bring it to school to earn a Cub Card. Ask your child, how does respect make you sparkle?

Lake County Renters Support
Lake County renters who faced financial hardship from the COVID-19 pandemic may apply for the Lake County Rental Assistance (LCRA) Program, which provides financial assistance to individuals to help pay rent. The application period will run through April 14th, 2023.
Lake County is working with community partners to assist keeping families in their homes as we continue to work together and move forward from the COVID-19 pandemic. Eligible households may receive up to six months of assistance with rent. This can include up to one month of future rent. Households that have received more than six months of total assistance from programs like the Federal Emergency Rental Assistance (FERA) Program and LCRA Program will not be eligible.
"Lake County 211 receives more calls from residents about needing help with rent payment assistance than any other service needs," said Lake County Board Chair Sandy Hart. "This program, which is funded by the American Rescue Plan Act and the federal Emergency Rental Assistance (ERA) program, continues to help our residents pay their rent and enable them to stay in their homes."
To qualify for help, residents must:
Pay rent in Lake County, Illinois
Have a financial hardship from the COVID-19 pandemic
Be at risk of homelessness or housing instability
Be at least one month in arrears (behind in your rent)
Meet income guidelines based on household size
Have not received six or more months of assistance from past programs such as the FERA and LCRA Programs
Provide appropriate documentation
Examples of financial hardship from the COVID-19 pandemic include job loss or furlough, and unexpected medical or other expenses.
Examples of what counts as being at risk of homelessness or housing instability include having a past due rent or utility bill, receiving an eviction notice, having had to move in temporarily with another household because you couldn't afford your rent, spending a high proportion of your income on housing costs and more.

Apoyo a los inquilinos del condado de Lake
Los inquilinos del Condado de Lake que enfrentaron dificultades financieras por la pandemia de COVID-19 pueden solicitar el Programa de Asistencia de Alquiler del Condado de Lake (LCRA), que brinda asistencia financiera a las personas para ayudar a pagar el alquiler. El período de solicitud se extenderá hasta el 14 de abril de 2023.
El condado de Lake está trabajando con socios de la comunidad para ayudar a mantener a las familias en sus hogares mientras continuamos trabajando juntos y avanzando desde la pandemia de COVID-19. Los hogares elegibles pueden recibir hasta seis meses de asistencia con el alquiler. Esto puede incluir hasta un mes de alquiler futuro. Los hogares que hayan recibido más de seis meses de asistencia total de programas como el Programa Federal de Asistencia de Alquiler de Emergencia (FERA) y el Programa LCRA no serán elegibles.
