Hello Students and Families of West Oak Middle School,
We hope you are doing well. Thank you to everyone that participated in our PTO’s fundraiser at Tina G’s this week. Funds from this event, and others help to sponsor a variety of student experiences throughout our district. This week was an exciting time for our 8th grade students as they made their course selections with Mundelein or Stevenson High School for fall 2023. Thank you families who came in to help with their selections. In West Oak Sports news, our girls volleyball and our wrestling teams had multiple events where they did a very nice job representing the Wolfpack. Thank you to everyone that came out and supported our students during these events. Please review the following items and feel free to reach out to our Main Office if you have any questions. 2nd Trimester: Our 2nd trimester ends on February 10th and we are looking to finish strong. Please check how your child is doing via our PowerSchool Parent Portal and help us encourage them to make sure they are doing their best, and getting all of their work in before this date.
January Assembly: Today we had another successful monthly assembly where our guest speaker, Dr. Sharma-Lewis spoke with our students on how they can be the best versions of themselves and how they can be leaders by using their individual strengths. Students of the month and positive referrals were given out, along with our 7th grade boys basketball team being recognized for their Patriot Conference Championship! Our monthly assemblies have helped to build and maintain positive climate and culture throughout the building.
ACCESS Testing: Each year our English Language Learners within our school are assessed in the areas of reading, writing, listening, and speaking the English language. The assessment will start on January 23 and goes through February 3rd. Here is a letter with more details and resources. If you have any questions please reach out to the Main Office.
Kindergarten Orientation: Diamond Lake School (DLS) will be hosting Kindergarten Orientation on Thursday, March 16th 6:30-7:30 pm. If your child will be 5 years old by September 1st, 2023, we invite you to attend this informational session provided by the DLS Kindergarten Team. During this orientation, families will have the opportunity to pre-register their child for Kindergarten, learn more about our Dual Language program, and ask questions. The meeting will take place in the DLS Sparkle Center. If you are unable to attend, we will also be streaming the meeting live through our website. The Kindergarten Team looks forward to meeting you!
Mundelein Building Tours: Mundelein High School building visits are being offered throughout the upcoming spring. Please complete this form if you would like to schedule a time to learn about their building and what they have to offer students and families.
8th Grade Tributes: Attention 8th grade families, you have the opportunity to write your 8th grade student a tribute for our yearbook. This special message, along with a baby photo, will be published in the 22/23 yearbook. Take a look before your chance is gone! This opportunity goes through February or until space is full. Hola Estudiantes y familias de la escuela secundaria West Oak,
Esperamos que estés bien. Gracias a todos los que participaron en la recaudación de fondos de nuestro PTO en Tina G 's esta semana. Los fondos de este evento y otros ayudan a patrocinar una variedad de experiencias estudiantiles en todo nuestro distrito. Esta semana fue un momento emocionante para nuestros estudiantes de 8.º grado, ya que hicieron sus selecciones de cursos con Mundelein o Stevenson High School para el otoño de 2023. Gracias a las familias que vinieron a ayudar con sus selecciones. En las noticias de West Oak Sports, nuestros equipos de voleibol femenino y nuestros equipos de lucha tuvieron múltiples eventos en los que hicieron un muy buen trabajo representando al Wolfpack. 2do trimestre:Nuestro segundo trimestre termina el 10 de Febrero y esperamos terminar con fuerza. Verifique cómo le está yendo a su hijo a través de nuestro Portal para padres de PowerSchool y ayúdenos a animarlos a asegurarnos de que están dando lo mejor de sí mismos y que están haciendo todo su trabajo antes de que se agoten.su cita.
Asamblea de enero: Hoy tuvimos otra asamblea mensual exitosa en la que nuestro orador invitado, el Dr. Sharma-Lewis, habló con nuestros estudiantes sobre cómo pueden ser las mejores versiones de sí mismos y cómo pueden ser líderes utilizando sus fortalezas individuales. ¡Se entregaron los estudiantes del mes y recomendaciones positivas, junto con nuestro equipo de baloncesto masculino de 7º grado que fue reconocido por su Campeonato de la Conferencia Patriota! Nuestras asambleas mensuales han ayudado a construir y mantener un clima y una cultura positivos en todo el edificio.
Pruebas de ACCESO:Cada año, nuestros estudiantes del idioma inglés dentro de nuestra escuela son evaluados en las áreas de lectura, escritura, comprensión auditiva y habla del idioma inglés. La evaluación comenzará el 23 de enero y terminará el 3 de febrero. Aquí hay una carta con más detalles y recursos. Si tiene alguna pregunta, comuníquese con la oficina principal.
