Dear Diamond Lake School (DLS) Families,
What a fabulous fall week at DLS! This week was unseasonably warm, but temperatures are quickly changing on us. Please remember that weather permitting each day, students do go outside for recess. Temperatures are forecasted to remain in the 40s next week. It is incredibly important that students are dressed appropriately in order to stay warm and avoid illness. Coats and jackets are highly recommended while outside. Hats, gloves, and scarves are also encouraged as it gets colder, especially if students are waiting at a bus stop. Please remember that in the weeks ahead we will also start to experience snowfall. Once snow starts accumulating, students will be required to have boots and snow pants here at school in order to play in the grass or on recess equipment. Students without the appropriate winter gear will be required to remain on the blacktop.
Trimester I report cards were sent via email this morning for students in Kindergarten through 2nd Grade. If your child is in our Dual Language program, please be aware that the email you received is for your child’s performance in English only. Dual Language students will be bringing home a paper copy of their Spanish report card today. Progress reports for students in our Little Diamonds Preschool program have been posted to individual Seesaw accounts. Please be sure to login to your account to view their progress.
We encourage all families to look at the report card with their children and discuss areas of strength and areas for improvement. With our curriculum and instruction map for each grade level, specific items within each subject are taught at specific times throughout the school year and teachers will assess student performance at the time in which the item is taught. Please also be aware that students are expected to learn and grow throughout the school year. Levels of mastery of specific skills generally develop through our progressive teaching model and practices. Students are not expected to be showing mastery and top level performance in all areas within the first trimester. We understand that our new shift to the Standards Based Report Card might be confusing. Teachers are happy to talk you through the report card and the grading process. If you have any questions about your child’s report card, please bring them with you to Parent Teacher Conferences.
If you have not signed up for a Parent Teacher Conference time yet, please do! Times are filling up quickly and teachers are eager to discuss your child’s progress with you. Parent Teacher Conferences will be offered both face-to-face and via Google Meet. For more information about how to sign-up for a conference time with your child’s teacher, click HERE. Please also remember that Monday, November 21st is an 11:00 am Early Release day for students.
Each year during Parent Teacher Conferences, we also host a Scholastic Book Fair. Our Library will turn into a great place to purchase grade level appropriate books in both English and Spanish along with reading accessories. Click HERE for more information about our Book Fair.
Students received their school pictures today! The bright diamond smiles in their pictures are just what we all need on this chilly Friday. If you are pleased with your child’s picture, the package of photos they brought home today is yours to keep. You will also notice there are directions to ordering additional photos, if so desired. If you are not pleased with your child's picture, we will be having Picture Retake Day at DLS on Thursday, December 8th. Students are required to bring back the package of photos that they brought home today on Thursday, December 8th in order to have their picture retaken. If your child was absent on Picture Day, they will also have the opportunity to have their picture taken on Thursday, December 8th.

Parent University
Thank you to everyone who attended this week's Parent University on the subject of Social Media Safety. Sheriff Deputy Francis Foy gave great information about the dangers of social media and how parents can help their children make responsible choices and to stay safe. If you missed his presentation, it can be viewed HERE. The next Parent University event will be on December 14th entitled Building Positive Relationships with Your Child. We hope to see you there!

Estimadas familias de la Escuela Diamond Lake (DLS),
¡Qué fabulosa semana de otoño en DLS! Esta semana fue inusualmente cálida, pero las temperaturas están cambiando rápidamente para nosotros. Recuerde que si el clima lo permite todos los días, los estudiantes salen afuera para el recreo. Se pronostica que las temperaturas permanecerán en los 40 grados la próxima semana. Es increíblemente importante que los estudiantes se vistan apropiadamente para mantenerse abrigados y evitar enfermedades. Los abrigos y chaquetas son muy recomendables mientras se está al aire libre. También se recomienda usar sombreros, guantes y bufandas a medida que hace más frío, especialmente si los estudiantes están esperando en una parada de autobús. Recuerde que en las próximas semanas también comenzaremos a experimentar nevadas. Una vez que la nieve comience a acumularse, los estudiantes deberán tener botas y pantalones para la nieve aquí en la escuela para poder jugar en el césped o en el equipo de recreo. Los estudiantes sin el equipo de invierno apropiado deberán permanecer en el asfalto.
Las boletas de calificaciones del primer trimestre se enviaron por correo electrónico esta mañana para los estudiantes de kinder a segundo grado. Si su hijo está en nuestro programa de lenguaje dual, tenga en cuenta que el correo electrónico que recibió es solo para el desempeño de su hijo en inglés. Los estudiantes de lenguaje dual traerán a casa una copia impresa de su boleta de calificaciones en español hoy. Los informes de progreso para los estudiantes en nuestro programa preescolar Little Diamonds se han publicado en cuentas individuales de Seesaw. Asegúrese de iniciar sesión en su cuenta para ver su progreso.

Cada año, durante las conferencias de padres y maestros, también organizamos una feria del libro Scholastic. Nuestra biblioteca se convertirá en un gran lugar para comprar libros apropiados para el nivel de grado tanto en inglés como en español junto con accesorios de lectura. ¡Los estudiantes recibieron sus fotos escolares hoy! Las sonrisas de diamantes brillantes en sus fotos son justo lo que todos necesitamos en este viernes frío. Si está satisfecho con la foto de su hijo, el paquete de fotos que trajeron a casa hoy es suyo. También notará que hay instrucciones para pedir fotos adicionales, si así lo desea. Si no está satisfecho con la fotografía de su hijo, tendremos el día de retomar fotografías en DLS el jueves 8 de diciembre. Se requiere que los estudiantes traigan el paquete de fotos que trajeron a casa hoy, jueves 8 de diciembre, para volver a tomarse la foto. Si su hijo estuvo ausente el día de la fotografía, también tendrá la oportunidad de tomarse una fotografía el jueves 8 de diciembre.

Universidad de Padres
Gracias a todos los que asistieron a la Universidad para padres de esta semana sobre el tema de la seguridad en las redes sociales. El ayudante del alguacil Francis Foy brindó excelente información sobre los peligros de las redes sociales y cómo los padres pueden ayudar a sus hijos a tomar decisiones responsables y mantenerse seguros.
