Hello Students and Families of West Oak Middle School,
We hope you are staying safe and warm during our up and down weather we have been having so far in March. Once again, thank you to all of you that completed the High Reliability Schools survey for our school. If you have not done so already, please complete this survey at your earliest convenience. As was said last week, with spring break the month of March is relatively short, however, it is a crucial time for our all school state testing and other events. Please review the following pieces of information and feel free to contact the Main Office if you have any questions.
IAR Testing: We are over half way finished with our Illinois Assessment for Readiness exams, with our final two exams being next Tuesday, 3/14, and Wednesday, 3/15. Students will be tested on their English Language Arts (ELA) skills during this time and then at 10:00am they will then attend all of their classes for shortened periods of time. Here is a letter if you would like to better understand how the IAR is scored and how you can help your child maximize their success on these exams.
Parent Conferences: Parent/Student/Teacher conferences will be from 1pm to 8pm on March 23rd. New for this round of conferences, our students will present their Student Target Portfolios that they have been working on. Their portfolios will serve as a talking piece for how they are progressing in each of their individual classes. All students have developed their own Google Site and will be adding classroom artifacts to it over the next few weeks. For this, we invite you to bring your child to conferences on March 23rd. The website for parents to sign up for conferences is now open. We look forward to seeing you and your child at conferences soon.
8th Grade Dance: Calling all parents that would like to help plan and set up this year’s 8th grade dance. The dance is scheduled for Tuesday, May 30th, for all of our graduating 8th grade students. If you would like to help, please contact Lisa Crenshaw at [email protected].
Student DESSA Survey: Our middle school has been asked to take part in a study to develop a survey of social and emotional skills for middle school students. Social and emotional skills are things like helping others, making good choices, and getting along with their peers. Research shows that these skills help students do well in school, in college, and at work. We are looking to pilot this program by having our 7th grade students complete this survey next week. Here is a letter with more information.
District 120 Referendum: Please review the following letter and flyer detailing the upcoming referendum of Mundelein High School District 120.
Boys Volleyball: Our next sports season is about one month away. Any boys interested in playing volleyball are invited to try out after school in our Main Gym on April 3rd and 4th. Here is a letter from the coaches that gives more information on what they will need, the times of their practices, and the dates and times of their games. Coach Enriquez and Coach Groshek hope to see a great turn out as they are excited to start the season soon.
Track and Field: Here is the letter if your child would like to go out for Track and Field this spring. Please reach out to Coach Grubb and Coach Carr if you have any questions.
MHS Parent Networking: Michelle Bank the Transition Coordinator at Mundelein High School is hosting a parent networking night March 15th from 6:30-7:30 pm. This invitation is intended for middle school families that have students with an IEP in grades 7 & 8, that will be attending MHS District 120 for high school. This night will be an opportunity to learn more about MHS services, but more importantly to get to know other parents that have students that also have an IEP. Here is the flier for more information. 2023 Mayor’s Cup Challenge: The annual Mayor’s Cup STEM Challenge is a great opportunity for Mundelein students to showcase their Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) skills, earn cash rewards, and have fun in the process! This will be held on April 16th and students are being asked to sign up with their math teachers. The deadline to sign up is March 20th. Here is the flier for more details.
Summer Learning: The District 76 Summer Learning Program is back! General Education and Dual Language Summer Learning will take place over one session and will be held June 12-June 30, Monday through Friday each week, from 8-11:30am. Here is the registration form if you are interested.
Mundelein Building Tours: Mundelein High School building visits are being offered throughout the upcoming spring. Please complete this form if you would like to schedule a time to learn about their building and what they have to offer students and families.
8th Grade Tributes: Attention 8th grade families, you have the opportunity to write your 8th grade student a tribute for our yearbook. This special message, along with a baby photo, will be published in the 22/23 yearbook. Take a look before your chance is gone! This opportunity goes through February or until space is full. Hola Estudiantes y familias de la escuela secundaria West Oak,
Esperamos que se mantenga seguro y cálido durante nuestro clima altibajo que hemos tenido hasta ahora en marzo. Una vez más, gracias a todos ustedes que completaron la encuesta High Reliability Schools para nuestra escuela. Si aún no lo ha hecho, complete esta encuesta lo antes que le sea posible. Como se dijo la semana pasada, con las vacaciones de primavera, el mes de marzo es relativamente corto, sin embargo, es un momento crucial para todas nuestras pruebas escolares estatales y otros eventos. Revise la siguiente información y no dude en comunicarse con la oficina principal si tiene alguna pregunta.
Pruebas IAR:Estamos a más de la mitad de nuestros exámenes de Illinois Assessment for Readiness, y nuestros dos exámenes finales serán el próximo martes 3/14 y el miércoles 3/15. Estudiante ESTÁS Encuesta:Se le ha pedido a nuestra escuela intermedia que participe en un estudio para desarrollar una encuesta de habilidades sociales y emocionales para estudiantes de escuela intermedia. Referéndum del Distrito 120: Por favor revise la siguiente carta y volantes detallando el próximo referéndum del Distrito 120 de Escuelas Secundarias de Mundelein.
Voleibol de niños:Nuestra próxima temporada deportiva está a un mes de distancia. Todos los niños interesados en jugar voleibol están invitados a probar después de la escuela en nuestro gimnasio principal el 3 y 4 de abril. Aquí hay una carta de los entrenadores que da más información sobre lo que van a necesitar, los tiempos de sus prácticas, y las fechas y horarios de sus juegos. Desafío de la Copa del Alcalde 2023:¡El Desafío STEM anual de la Copa del Alcalde es una gran oportunidad para que los estudiantes de Mundelein muestren sus habilidades en Ciencias, Tecnología, Ingeniería y Matemáticas (STEM), ganen recompensas en efectivo y se diviertan en el proceso! Esto se llevará a cabo el 16 de abril y se les pide a los estudiantes que se registren con sus maestros de matemáticas. La fecha límite para inscribirse es el 20 de marzo. Aprendizaje de verano: ¡Regresó el programa de aprendizaje de verano del Distrito 76! La educación general y el aprendizaje de verano en dos idiomas se llevarán a cabo en una sola sesión y se llevarán a cabo del 12 al 30 de junio, de lunes a viernes de cada semana, de 8:00am a 11:30am. Aquí está el formulario de registro si usted está interesado.
