Dear Students and Families of West Oak Middle School,
It is hard to believe that we have reached the end of the 2nd trimester. Teachers will be finalizing students’ grades next week and report cards will be sent home electronically next Friday, 2/16. Please review the following announcements as there are a number of important dates and events coming up in the short future. Parent Input Needed: We ask that all our families take the following 5Essentials survey in order to give us feedback on how we are doing in a number of areas within our school. Please review the following letter for more information.
HRS Level 2: D76 is excited to announce that all three of our schools, Diamond Lake School, West Oak Intermediate School and West Oak Middle School are embarking on the process of becoming Marzano High Reliability Schools (HRS). By following the HRS framework, each school has a long-term strategic planning guide with certification levels that build upon one another. Parents please complete the following survey here to help with our progress. We are excited to share that all D76 schools are Level 1 Certified! Each school is now pursuing Level 2 Certification.
On February 24th, College of Lake County will be hosting the 11th annual STEM Day for Girls.
Girls in 7th through 12th grade who want to explore careers in science, technology, engineering and math will have a free, hands-on career exploration day, packed with 13 workshops by expert presenters from CLC and the Lake County Community. The program seeks to motivate middle school and high school girls interested in STEM careers to become innovative and creative thinkers and to pursue careers in this area.
In addition, the event will host a panel and tour for parents which will include overviews of STEM scholarships, transfer and articulation agreements, dual credit/college readiness, how to encourage your daughter, and a panel of CLC representatives. Fireman Tony: Our District’s beloved Fireman Tony is holding a "Bowling with Fireman Tony," Fundraiser at Bowlero, 316 Center Drive, Vernon Hills, IL on Saturday, February 17th from 11am-3pm. This is for his daughter, Julia, who is an elementary music teacher that lost everything to a fire in her apartment complex. Here is the flyer for more information.
SHS Spring Placement Exam: The Spring language makeup placement exam is scheduled for Saturday, February 17. This exam is for students who were unable to take the Chinese, French, Hebrew, Latin, or German exam on December 16. 8th Grade Field Trip: Our 8th graders are going on a field trip to a Chicago Wolves Hockey game on February 22nd. For your child to attend, parents and guardians must sign this permission Form so that they can attend. Students have been notified that they must be in good standing behaviorally and academically before they will be permitted to attend. Let the office know if you have any questions.

SAVE THE DATE for the upcoming fundraiser at Just for Fun Roller Rink in Mundelein. This will be held on Thursday, February 22nd, from 5:30-7:30pm. The cost is $10 per skater and $5 per non-skater.

Applications For Patriot Parent Association: The Stevenson Patriot Parent Association (PPA) is looking for adults who are interested in joining the PPA for the 2024-25 school year. You can be involved in PPA with the Bake Sale, Staff Hospitality, Free Treat Day, Class Representatives, or the Assignment Notebook committee. Applications are being taken online now until March 15. Please complete the Stevenson High School PPA Interest Form if you are interested. There will also be an opportunity this summer to sign up to volunteer for individual 2024-25 events. 8th Grade Tributes: This year the Yearbook staff is continuing a program just for 8th graders and their families. This program allows families to buy an eighth of a page personal ad in the Yearbook to congratulate their 8th grader on their graduation from West Oak Middle School. In order for this program to work, the Yearbook staff needs parents and guardians to send us, the yearbook staff, your child’s baby picture as well as a brief message of encouragement, love and hopeful wishes. Veteran’s Day Dinner: Our communities Mundelein Afterschool Coalition will be holding its annual Veterans Appreciation Dinner for April 12th, from 5:30-8:00pm. Here is the letter and flyer for more information.

Examen de ubicación de primavera de SHS: El examen de ubicación de recuperación de idioma de primavera está programado para el sábado 17 de febrero. Este examen es para estudiantes que no pudieron tomar el examen de chino, francés, hebreo, latín o alemán el 16 de diciembre. Excursión de 8.º grado: Nuestros alumnos de 8.º grado realizarán una excursión a un partido de hockey de los Chicago Wolves el 22 de febrero. Homenajes de octavo grado:Este año el personal del Anuario continúa con un programa sólo para 8th alumnos de grado y sus familias. Este programa permite a las familias comprar un octavo de página de anuncio personal en el Anuario para felicitar a sus estudiantes de grado en su graduación de la escuela secundaria West Oak.
