Dear Friends and Families of West Oak Middle School:
It has been a busy time at West Oak Middle School ahead of Thanksgiving break. The first Trimester ends today. Report cards will be emailed home Friday, 11/20, in the afternoon. Additionally, Parent-Teacher sign-ups will also be closing on the same day. Please see below for important announcements. As always, please contact your teachers with any questions or concerns. Theme Week: November theme days are coming up next week! Mrs. Wysocki and We Group have been working hard in developing our themes for 11/16-11/20. This time around, grades 6-8 will be competing against each other to determine which grade has the most spirit. Here is the following document describing each theme. Let's have fun and in the spirit of Thanksgiving, be grateful!
Mundelein Restaurant Takeout Shoutout: Please join Mundelein’s Takeout…Shoutout restaurant promotion and consider ordering a meal for delivery or pick-up as often as possible! You’re helping our restaurants and our restaurant workers throughout Mundelein! Let’s do everything we can to support our Mundelein restaurants and keep them open! Yearbook Club Needs Your Help!: We are looking for pictures of WOMS students participating in Distance Learning, theme days or anything else you think could be useful for the yearbook! Please share them by visiting www.hjeshare.com and entering the code D76-2021. We thank you so much!
Band Spirit Wear: Families wishing to purchase Band Spirit Wear can order from https://ultimate-screen-printing.printavo.com/merch/westoakband/ through this Monday, 11/16.
Parent/Teacher Conferences: Conferences will be held on November 23rd this year from 1:00pm to 8:00pm. Conferences will be scheduled this year with individual teachers instead of teams. Conferences will be 10 minutes in length. Conference registration opened on Sunday, November 8th on our District website. Families also received a communication from the district with instructions to book conferences. Please have your student’s schedule in front of you when you book conferences so you make sure to book a conference with all of your student’s teachers.
Families In Need: We have a few ways families can support other families in our community over the next few weeks. Our D76 PTA is sponsoring a Winter Clothing Drive from October 28th until November 16th. Diamond Lake SD 76 is partnering with the greater Mundelein Community to provide food to families for Thanksgiving now through November 15th. Here is the flyer in both English and Spanish. The drop-off locations for both drives are at West Oak Middle School.
BPAC: Our Bilingual Parent Advisory Council will be sponsoring a guest speaker, Maria Rocha, who will be speaking about parent self-care when supporting students at home. The event will be 11.18 at 6pm. See the flyer for more information.
NIU Reading Program: Please see the attached flyer regarding a Fall Reading Skills Program opportunity.
Chromebooks and Other Devices: We strongly encourage all students to use the Chromebooks they have been given for remote learning. A family can use another device ONLY IF the student uses a Google Chrome Web Browser. Steps to use Google Chrome on another computer have been provided by our technology department and can be found here.
School Physicals and Immunizations: School physicals and immunizations were due for 6th grade students on October 1st. Please contact Julie Marchese, our School Nurse, with any questions at (847)566-9220.

Conferencias de padres y maestros: Las conferencias se llevarán a cabo el 23 de noviembre de este año de 1:00 pm a 8:00 pm. Las conferencias se programan este año con maestros individuales en lugar de equipos. Las conferencias tendrán una duración de 10 minutos. La inscripción a la conferencia se abrió el domingo 8 de noviembre en nuestro sitio web del distrito. Las familias también recibieron una comunicación del distrito con instrucciones para reservar conferencias. Tenga el horario de su estudiante frente a usted cuando reserve conferencias para asegurarse de reservar una conferencia con todos los maestros de su estudiante.
