WOIS News
Early Release Monday
Monday, 11.23, is an Early Release Monday. Dismissal will be at 11:30. Our core content areas will take place between 8:00-9:30am, and our Specials and Intervention times will shift up to 9:30-11:30.
Thanksgiving Break
There is no school Tuesday, 11.24 through Friday, 11.27, for Thanksgiving. We will see everyone back online Monday, 11.30.2020
Parent Teacher Conferences
Parent Teacher Conferences will be held on Monday, 11.23 between 12:30 and 7:30pm. These conferences will take place virtually via Google Meets. The link to sign-up for times is on the D76 website. As always, if you need assistance with signing up for a parent teacher conference, please contact the office and we will help you.
WOIS First Trimester Grades
Student grades will be sent home today, through School Messenger today, Friday, November 20th.. You will receive an email with a secure link to your student’s report card. The student grading scale will reflect an A, B, C, D or P for your student's trimester grade in each course. If a student receives a P for any course, you will be contacted by that teacher in order to formulate a plan to ensure success for the student, family, and teacher going forward. We realize that remote learning is not the optimum learning environment for any of us, and we believe at the Intermediate level, this method of grade reporting is fair and promotes a commitment to success going forward.
All other trimester reports (Advanced, English Learner Resource, Special Education) have been mailed home.
Student Material Pick-up
West Oak Intermediate School is hosting a student material pick-up day on Monday, 11.23 from 1:00-5:00pm. Not all students will have materials to pick-up, so please see the list below. We will provide curbside pick-up at the WOIS main entrance.

Please follow the instructions on the map below:
Due to the volume of students at the West Oak Campus and to ensure safety and efficiency, we ask that everyone follow these specific directions for pick-up and drop-off:
WOIS Only
Enter the West Oak Campus and proceed to the end of the parking lot by the playground and begin to loop around to the check-in station at the west end of the building.
Remain in your car. Cars will be approached by a WOIS staff member. This staff member will ask for the student(s) name and radio the building for their belongings. A Post-it note with the name will be applied to the passenger side window.
Once checked-in, continue through the parking lot along the curb to the WOIS Main Entrance. WOIS staff will bring student’s materials to the car.
Once the collection process is completed, the parent will then exit the parking lot at the east end of the campus.
If you are unable to pick-up/drop-off your child(ren)’s belongings at the designated date/time, please contact your child’s school.
Specials Classes Assignments
Please remind your students to check their Specials Google Classrooms (PE, Music, Art) for their assignments daily. Please reach out the Specials teachers if you need assistance.
Online Chess Wizards Opportunity
WOIS is teaming up with Chess Wizards to provide an online Chess Club option. These classes will be facilitated by Chess Wizards. More information can be found in these links. English Spanish
Teacher Google Websites
As a parent, you have access to your child’s Google Classroom. However, the information that you can access isn’t always what you want to see. WOIS teachers have developed a Google Sites page for you to view specific information about your child’s class. Just visit the staff directory, linked here, and view the teacher’s website by clicking on the link beneath their name.

My Commitment to You
This is not the way we are used to starting the school year. I want to thank you all for your encouraging emails and phone calls. As we embark on the 2020-2021 school year, our main goal is to provide the most authentic education experience that we can without having students with us in person. We will be increasing the live instruction and engagement as well as curriculum delivery compared to what was executed in the spring. We will also be utilizing curriculum planning forward documents that allow each grade level to capture skills and standards that we didn’t approach during the 3rd trimester last year, while we incorporate skills and standards that are scheduled for the 1st trimester of this year. Additionally, we are striving to present a more streamlined online platform utilizing Google Classroom with less links for students to navigate. We will need to be flexible with scheduling and programming, during our remote learning, but WOIS is committed to providing the best learning experience for the students. After we begin the school year at the end of this month, I will schedule virtual “Coffee with the Principal” in order to keep you up to date with what we are doing, how well we are doing it, what is coming next, and have an opportunity for you to provide me with your feedback and ask questions. This continues to be new territory for all of us, but there is no other community and District that I’d rather experience this with.

Grade Level Supply Lists
Although we are beginning the year remotely, it will be beneficial to purchase school supplies, especially writing instruments, notebooks, markers, colored pencils, crayons, etc. Our commitment is to create the most authentic remote learning experience. In order to do this, students will need access to supplies. You can find the grade level student supply lists here.

Mi compromiso a ustedes
Esta no es la manera en que estamos acostumbrados a comenzar el año escolar. Quiero decirles gracias a todos ustedes por sus correos electrónicos y llamadas telefónicas alentadores . A medida que nos embarcamos en el año escolar 2020-2021, nuestra meta principal es proveer la experiencia educativa más auténtica que podemos sin tener a los estudiantes en persona.
