Dear Diamond Lake Families,

Happy New Year!  As we begin 2021, we are gearing up to make a few changes within Diamond Lake School as well as throughout District 76.  Next week, you should expect to receive a very important communication from Dr. Sharma-Lewis asking you to complete a “Declaration of Intent” for your child or children.  Around the time of Parent/Teacher conferences, you had completed a similar survey that asked what you were planning for your family when we are able to return to learning in person.  At that time, we used the information to begin our planning process.  Since then, you may or may not have changed your mind about your intentions.  The “Declaration of Intent” will be requesting your final decision on whether your child/children will return to in person learning or will continue to learn through distance learning online.  A few things to consider:

• If you declare that your child/children will be learning virtually, you may not change that decision and send him/her to school in person.  If you would like to learn more information about why, please join me for a virtual “Coffee with the Principal” on January 13th at 9:00 AM by using this google code: Coffee.

• If you are planning to send your child to school, we are planning for your child to come to school and we will be staffing classrooms around that decision.  Although you are able to decide to change to virtual learning, we discourage making that change after you declare your intentions.

• Regardless of whether or not you decide that your child will attend school in person or virtually, there is a chance that your child may have a different teacher when we are running both options.  We will need to balance the staffing virtual learning and in person learning environments and therefore we may need to adjust teachers for some students.  We are NOT expecting a change for the majority of students and we will let your family know if your child will experience a change.  If there is a change to your child’s teacher, we will take steps to ensure a smooth transition for your child.  Again, if you have any questions, please join me for “Coffee with the Principal” on 1.13.19 at 9:00 AM.

Estimados padres de Diamond Lake,

¡Feliz año nuevo! Comenzando 2021, nos estamos preparando para hacer algunos cambios entre la escuela de Diamond Lake y el Distrito 76. La semana que viene, deberían esperar a recibir un importante comunicado de la Dra. Sharma-Lewis preguntándole si puede completar una “Declaración de Intento” para su hijo o hijos. Alrededor del tiempo de las conferencias con las matreras, ustedes completaron una encuesta similar que le preguntó qué estaba planeando para su familia cuando podamos volver a aprender en persona. En ese tiempo, usamos la información para empezar nuestro proceso de planificación. Desde entonces, puede o no haber cambiado de opinión sobre sus intenciones. La “Declaración de Intento” solicitará su decisión final sobre si su hijo/hijos volverán al aprendizaje en persona o continuará aprendiendo a través del aprendizaje a distancia virtual.  Algunas cosas a considerar:

• Si declara que su hijo/s aprenderán virtual, no podrá cambiar su decision y mandarlo a la escuela en persona. Si quiere aprender más información en por qué, por favor en unirse conmigo para un “Café con la directora” virtual el 13 de enero a las 9:00am usando el código: Coffee.

• Si usted está planeando en mandar a su hijo a la escuela, estamos planeando en que asiste  y estamos preparando maestras para ayudarles. Aunque puede cambiar de decisión a aprendizaje virtual, nosotros desanimamos hacer ese cambio después de declarar su intención.

• Independientemente de si dice o no que su hijo asistirá a la escuela en persona o virtualmente, existe la posibilidad de que su hijo cambie de maestra. Necesitamos equilibrar el equipo de maestras en aprendizaje virtual y aprendizaje en persona, por tanto, es posible que necesitemos cambiar maestras para algunos estudiantes. No esperamos un cambio para la mayoría de estudiantes. Pero acaso de que su hijo tendrá un cambio, y le haremos saber a su familia. Si hay un cambio de maestra, tomaremos medidas para garantizar una transición sin problemas para su hijo. De nuevo, si tiene algunas preguntas, por favor de unirse conmigo para un “Café con la directora” el 1.13.21 a las 9:00 AM.
