WOIS News

Welcome Back!!

We are excited to welcome everyone back to school this Monday, 8.31.  Remote learning will begin at 8:00am.  The WOIS school day is from 8:00am - 2:55pm with a lunch break from 12:00 - 1:00pm.  Attendance will be taken and our grading practices are in place.  Your student will have access to their homeroom teacher’s Google Classroom, and then will navigate to any other teacher from there.  A Google Sites feature will be in place for parents to have access to classroom specific information.

If you were unable to pick up supplies for your student this week at WOIS, please contact the office to arrange a pick-up time.

My Commitment to You

This is not the way we are used to starting the school year.  I want to thank you all for your encouraging emails and phone calls.  As we embark on the 2020-2021 school year, our main goal is to provide the most authentic education experience that we can without having students with us in person.  We will be increasing the live instruction and engagement as well as curriculum delivery compared to what was executed in the spring.  We will also be utilizing curriculum planning forward documents that allow each grade level to capture skills and standards that we didn’t approach during the 3rd trimester last year, while we incorporate skills and standards that are scheduled for the 1st trimester of this year.  Additionally, we are striving to present a more streamlined online platform utilizing Google Classroom with less links for students to navigate.  We will need to be flexible with scheduling and programming, during our remote learning, but WOIS is committed to providing the best learning experience for the students.  After we begin the school year at the end of this month, I will schedule virtual “Coffee with the Principal” in order to keep you up to date with what we are doing, how well we are doing it, what is coming next, and have an opportunity for you to provide me with your feedback and ask questions.  This continues to be new territory for all of us, but there is no other community and District that I’d rather experience this with.

Grade Level Supply Lists

Although we are beginning the year remotely, it will be beneficial to purchase school supplies, especially writing instruments, notebooks, markers, colored pencils, crayons, etc.  Our commitment is to create the most authentic remote learning experience.  In order to do this, students will need access to supplies.  You can find the grade level student supply lists here.

We frequently send out information from West Oak Intermediate School and District 76 through text and email.  Please make sure that we have your updated contact information so that you receive important bus updates, school announcements and news from the District.

United Way of Lake County Helpline

United Way of Lake County has created a hotline that allows individuals to make a simple phone call to share what help is needed and what type of services can be offered in our community.  211 is always open, always confidential, and always free. Speak to a live person when you call in English or Spanish.  The 211 team will also interpret to more than 150 other languages.  Call 211 for assistance or visit: United Way of Lake County Help Line.

Estamos emocionados de dar la bienvenida a todos para el regreso a la escuela este lunes 31 de agosto. Aprendizaje a distancia comienza a las 8:00 a.m. El dia escolar de WOIS es 8:00 a.m. - 2:55 p.m. con un descanso para el almuerzo de 12:00-1:00 p.m. Vamos a tomar la asistencia y seguir las prácticas de calificación. Mi compromiso a ustedes

Esta no es la manera en que estamos acostumbrados a comenzar el año escolar. Quiero decirles gracias a todos ustedes por sus correos electrónicos y llamadas telefónicas alentadores . A medida que nos embarcamos en el año escolar 2020-2021, nuestra meta principal es proveer la experiencia educativa más auténtica que podemos sin tener a los estudiantes en persona. Vamos a aumentar la instrucción en vivo y la participación además del currículo en comparación con lo que se llevó a cabo en la primavera. También vamos a utilizar documentos de planificación curricular que permiten a cada nivel de grado enfocar en las habilidades y los estándares que no alcanzamos durante el tercer trimestre del año escolar pasado, mientras incorporamos las habilidades y los estándares que están programados para el primer trimestre de este año escolar. Además, queremos presentar una plataforma en línea más optimizada utilizando Google Classroom con menos enlaces para que los estudiantes naveguen. Tenemos que ser flexibles con los horarios y la programación durante el aprendizaje a distancia, pero WOIS hace el compromiso de proveer la mejor experiencia educativa para los estudiantes. Después de que comenzamos el año escolar a finales de este mes, voy a programar unas citas virtuales de “Café con el Director” con el fin de mantenerles a ustedes actualizados con lo que estamos haciendo, lo bien que lo estamos haciendo, lo que va a suceder próximo, y darles una oportunidad de hacer comentarios y preguntas. Este continua a ser un territorio nuevo para todos nosotros, pero no hay ninguna otra comunidad y distrito que prefiero experimentar esto con.

Lista de Utiles

Aunque estamos comenzando el año de forma remota, será beneficioso comprar útiles escolares, especialmente instrumentos de escritura, cuadernos, etc.  Nuestro compromiso es crear la experiencia de aprendizaje remota más auténtica.  Para ello, los estudiantes van a necesitar acceso a útiles.

Frecuentemente mandamos información de la escuela WOIS y el Distrito 76 por texto y correo electrónico.  Favor de asegurarse de que tenemos su información de contacto más actualizada, para que usted pueda recibir actualizaciones importantes de los autobuses, anuncios de la escuela y noticias del Distrito.
