Dear Friends and Families of West Oak Middle School:
It’s hard to believe that we have just completed our first month of school! Student attendance and participation has been outstanding. We know this is due in large part to your commitment to connecting our students to online learning. We continue to be grateful for the partnership we have with you. Please continue to reach out to your teachers or to the administration if you are having any challenges or have any questions. Our teacher’s Google Voice phone numbers are on the WOMS At-A-Glance Website. Parents, please note that we do NOT have school this Monday, September 28th. Please see below for important information and updates:
Clubs and Sports: We are excited to announce we will be offering a two-week Cross Country Camp starting on Monday, October 5th! The camp will run for two weeks from 4:00 to 5:00 at West Oak Middle School. There will be no cost, but families will need to provide their own transportation. Students will need to take their temperatures upon arrival and students will need to practice social distancing. Masks will not be worn during the running outside. We will send more information and a sign-up sheet early next week. Please contact Mr. Cunningham, Mr. Pederson, or our athletic director Mr. Cereghino with any questions.
As mentioned last week, the Broadcast Club, Yearbook Club, and WeGroup will be starting in October. We will include more specific information about each club in next week’s parent communication.
Tutorial: Starting October 6th, we will offer tutorial online from 3:30 to 4:30. Our focus will be students who need reading and math support, regardless of grade level or class. More information will be included in next week’s parent letter.
STAR Testing: The STAR test is an important test we use three times a year to measure the progress of our students in reading and math. We will be administering this test remotely October 6th and 7th as a middle school. Students will take the test during first period. In order to make sure students have enough time to take the test, we will be using our AM Assembly Schedule. Students will have from 8:25 to 9:47 to take the test. Students who finish the test can exit the test session and rejoin their first period class at 9:50. The AM assembly schedule has been added below for your convenience. All grade levels follow the same schedule.

Teacher Absences: When a teacher is absent from a class, he/she will communicate to their students through Google Classroom with the work they need to complete for the day. The work should be completed during the scheduled period. Teachers will include a task or a work product that needs to be completed that day to show the students were present and working.
School Physicals and Immunizations: Even though we are in a remote learning situation, school physicals and immunizations are still due for 6th grade students on October 1st. Please contact Julie Marchese, our School Nurse, with any questions at (847)566-9220.

Ausencias de maestros: Cuando un maestro está ausente de una clase, él / ella le comunicará a sus estudiantes a través de Google Classroom con el trabajo que necesitan completar durante el día. El trabajo debe completarse durante el período programado. Los maestros incluirán una tarea o un producto de trabajo que debe completarse ese día para mostrar que los estudiantes estaban presentes y trabajando.
Exámenes físicos e inmunizaciones escolares: A pesar de que estamos en una situación de aprendizaje remota, los exámenes físicos escolares y las vacunas aún se deben entregar para los estudiantes de 6º grado el 1 de octubre.
