Hello Fairhaven Families,

The PTO is an invaluable part of our District 76 community and the PTO needs your help!  The PTO has open positions for the 2019-2020 school year and we are inviting you to become actively involved!

Why is parent involvement such a big deal? Two major studies by Anne Henderson in the 1990s and 2000s showed that parent involvement has a hugely positive effect on student achievement and other indicators of success. These studies were so influential that researchers today are still referencing them. More recently, a study published in 2012 by researchers at North Carolina State University, Brigham Young University, and the University of California, Irvine, reinforced Henderson’s earlier findings—and also found that family involvement has an even bigger effect on positive academic performance than the quality of the school building  It’s not just the students who benefit, either; parents, teachers, and schools come out ahead.

Children with parents who are involved in their education are more likely to:

• Earn better grades.

• Score higher on tests.

• Attend school regularly.

• Have better social skills.

• Show improved behavior.

• Be more positive in their attitude toward school.

We need our parents to partner with our staff members to continue the strong PTO that supports the students throughout the district.  We need all parents to become actively involved in our educational community and to volunteer time in order to continue some of the fun activities the PTO organizes.  We need our parents to be involved.

District 76 and the Community

Hola Familias de Fairhaven,

El PTO es una parte invaluable de nuestra comunidad del Distrito 76 y el PTO necesita su ayuda! ¡El PTO tiene posiciones abiertas para el año escolar 2019-2020 y lo invitamos a participar! ¿Por qué es tan importante la participación de los padres? Dos estudios importantes realizados por Anne Henderson en las décadas de 1990 y 2000 demostraron que la participación de los padres tiene un efecto enormemente positivo en el rendimiento estudiantil y otros indicadores de éxito. Estos estudios fueron tan influyentes que los investigadores de hoy siguen haciendo referencia. Más recientemente, un estudio publicado en 2012 por investigadores de la Universidad Estatal de Carolina del Norte, la Universidad Brigham Young y la Universidad de California en Irvine, reforzó los hallazgos anteriores de Henderson, y también encontró que la participación de la familia tiene un efecto aún mayor en el rendimiento académico positivo y calidad del edificio escolar  No solo los estudiantes se benefician; Padres, maestros y escuelas salen adelante.

Los niños con padres que participan en su educación son más propensos a:

• Obtener mejores calificaciones.

• Puntuación más alta en las pruebas.

• Asistir a la escuela regularmente.

• Tener mejores habilidades sociales.

• Mostrar comportamiento mejorado.

• Ser más positivos en su actitud hacia la escuela.

Necesitamos que nuestros padres se asocien con los miembros de nuestro personal para continuar fuertemente apoyando el PTO que apoya a los estudiantes en todo el distrito. Necesitamos que todos los padres se involucren activamente en nuestra comunidad educativa y que trabajen como voluntarios para continuar algunas de las actividades divertidas que organiza el PTO. Necesitamos que nuestros padres se involucren.

Espero verlos en la próxima reunión del PTO el martes 7 de mayo a las 6 pm en la Biblioteca de West Oak.
