Dear Diamond Lake School (DLS) Families,
Our first Family Night of the year, Noche de los Amigos, Night of Friends, is set and ready to go! On Wednesday, September 27th 5:00-7:00 pm DLS will be celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month with different cultural and academic activity tables along with a taco truck, Spanish music, activities, and dancers. We are also anticipating the completion of our new playground by this time and will be starting the event with an official ribbon cutting to welcome our families and encourage play and the exploration of cross-cultural friendships at the early childhood level. Today STAR test scores were emailed to families to show your child’s performance within the Fall benchmark testing cycle. These initial scores provide us with an opportunity to set goals with students and ensure that we are adjusting our teachings, our lessons, and our practices to meet the needs of our students. When we take the STAR test again in the Winter, we will compare the Fall benchmark scores to the Winter benchmark scores and measure how much growth our students are making in Early Literacy, Reading, Spanish Reading for Dual Language students, and Mathematics. I always encourage parents to use the Fall benchmark scores as informative data that can help to incorporate academic routines and practices at home. Additional academic support within the home can significantly impact student performance and growth. If you have any questions about your child’s score report, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Throughout the summer, educators from Mundelein D75 provided read alouds to children attending the Mundelein Farmers Market. We are excited to announce that they will be concluding this summer's Farmers Market with a little sparkle. Saturday, September 30th, DLS staff will be featured and providing read alouds to children. The Mundelein Farmers Market runs from 8:00 am-12:00 pm on Park St. Please see our reading schedule below, and we look forward to seeing you there, and so does Sparkles! Our fearless mascot will be making an appearance at this special event.

Say, “Cheese!” Fall Picture Day is approaching. Please keep an eye out in your child’s backpack in the next few weeks. Lifetouch will be sending order forms home and they will be due back on Picture Day, Thursday, October 19th. If you are interested in ordering school pictures, there are two ways to order. If you prefer to pay by cash or check payable to Lifetouch, please complete the picture order form and send it back with your child on Picture Day. If you prefer to pay by credit or debit card, please order online at www.mylifetouch.com. Through the online ordering system, you will be asked to enter our Picture Day ID which is EVTNFMGJF. You will also see this ID number printed on the order form that your child will be bringing home. If you order online, your child DOES NOT need to return the order form to DLS. Whichever method of payment you choose, all orders must be submitted by Picture Day. Lifetouch will return pictures to DLS for students to bring home shortly after they are taken. In the event that you are not pleased with the picture, no problem! We will have picture retakes on Thursday, December 7th.
Please remember there is NO SCHOOL this Monday, September 25th.

Important Information
PTO: Our next PTO meeting is this Tuesday, September 26th 6:00-7:00 pm in the Innovation Center at Diamond Lake School. We look forward to seeing you there!
Food Service: Each month our breakfast and lunch menus will be provided in our Family Communications as well as posted on our website. Click HERE for the breakfast menu and HERE for the lunch menu.
Required Health Forms: Please be aware that per the state of Illinois all students entering Preschool, Kindergarten, and 2nd Grade must have their age appropriate health forms submitted to our front office by Monday, October 16th. Below you will see the requirements for each grade level. Please note that students entering 1st Grade are not required to submit health forms of any nature. If we do not receive the required forms by Monday, October 16th, your students will not be able to attend school until the forms are completed and turned into our office.
Preschool: Physical only
Kindergarten: Immunization, physical, dental, and vision
2nd Grade: Dental only
Smile Dentist: On Friday, October 20th, we will be welcoming Smile Dentist to DLS. Families will have the opportunity to sign their children up for a free dental check-up and cleaning. Click HERE for more information.
Medication Authorization Form: If your child needs to take medication of any kind throughout the school day, in response to allergies, or under specific circumstances, families are required to complete the D76 Medical Authorization form. Portions of the form must be completed by your child’s physician. Click HERE to access the form. In addition to the completed form, families must provide the medication in its original container. Printed copies of the form are also available in our front office.

Hoy, los puntajes de las pruebas STAR se enviaron por correo electrónico a las familias para mostrar el desempeño de su hijo dentro del ciclo de pruebas comparativas de otoño. Estos puntajes iniciales nos brindan la oportunidad de establecer metas con los estudiantes y asegurarnos de que estamos ajustando nuestras enseñanzas, nuestras lecciones y nuestras prácticas para satisfacer las necesidades de nuestros estudiantes. Cuando volvamos a tomar el examen STAR en el invierno, compararemos los puntajes de referencia de otoño con los puntajes de referencia de invierno y mediremos cuánto crecimiento están logrando nuestros estudiantes en alfabetización temprana, lectura, lectura en español para estudiantes de lenguaje dual y matemáticas. Siempre animo a los padres a utilizar los puntajes de referencia de otoño como datos informativos que pueden ayudar a incorporar rutinas y prácticas académicas en casa. El apoyo académico adicional dentro del hogar puede afectar significativamente el desempeño y el crecimiento de los estudiantes. Durante todo el verano, los educadores de Mundelein D75 leyeron en voz alta a los niños que asistieron al mercado de agricultores de Mundelein. Nos complace anunciar que concluirán el Farmers Market de este verano con un poco de brillo. El sábado 30 de septiembre, el personal de DLS estará presente y ofrecerá lectura en voz alta a los niños. ¡Decir queso!" Se acerca el Día de las fotografías de otoño. Esté atento a la mochila de su hijo durante las próximas semanas. Lifetouch enviará formularios de pedido a casa y deberán entregarse el día de la fotografía, el jueves 19 de octubre. Si está interesado en pedir fotografías escolares, hay dos formas de hacerlo. Si prefiere pagar en efectivo o con cheque a nombre de Lifetouch, complete el formulario de pedido de fotografías y envíelo con su hijo el día de la fotografía. Si prefiere pagar con tarjeta de crédito o débito, haga su pedido en línea en www.mylifetouch.com. A través del sistema de pedidos en línea, se le pedirá que ingrese nuestro ID del día de la fotografía, que es EVTNFMGJF. También verá este número de identificación impreso en el formulario de pedido que su hijo llevará a casa. Si realiza un pedido en línea, su hijo NO deberá devolver el formulario de pedido a DLS. Cualquiera que sea el método de pago que elija, todos los pedidos deben enviarse antes del día de la fotografía. Lifetouch devolverá las fotografías a DLS para que los estudiantes las lleven a casa poco después de haberlas tomado. En caso de que no estés satisfecho con la imagen, ¡no hay problema! Tendremos nuevas tomas de fotografías el jueves 7 de diciembre.

Formularios de salud requeridos: Tenga en cuenta que, según el estado de Illinois, todos los estudiantes que ingresan a preescolar, jardín de infantes y segundo grado deben presentar los formularios de salud apropiados para su edad en nuestra oficina principal antes del lunes 16 de octubre. Formulario de autorización de medicación: Si su hijo necesita tomar medicamentos de cualquier tipo durante el día escolar, en respuesta a alergias o en circunstancias específicas, las familias deben completar el formulario de Autorización médica D76. El médico de su hijo debe completar partes del formulario. Haga clic AQUÍ para acceder al formulario. Además del formulario completo, las familias deberán entregar el medicamento en su envase original. Las copias impresas del formulario también están disponibles en nuestra oficina principal.
