Dear Students and Families of West Oak Middle School,
Hello again, we hope you have had a wonderful week and are enjoying some of our fall weather. Please be advised that we will be having a three day weekend as we celebrate Rosh Hashanah next Monday, 9/26. We had a busy week this week with sports and various clubs starting after school. We also look forward to next week as we will be having our end of the month all student assembly on Friday, 9/30. Below are some additional items going on at West Oak. Have a great weekend!
Culver's Fundraiser: Thank you to everyone who attended our PTO’s fundraiser at Culver’s this week. Our staff had a great time serving our families and the PTO was able to raise some great funds from the event. Be on the lookout for future PTO dine out activities coming up soon.
Soccer Challenge: This Saturday, September 24th at 10:00 AM a soccer challenge will be held at the Santa Maria del Popolo Soccer Field. This event is open to boys and girls, ages 9-14 and is a contest as to who can score the highest number of points on penalty kicks. This event promises to be fun for all. Hard Lockdown Drill: D76’s West Oak Campus will be conducting our first "Hard Lockdown Drill" that will take place next Thursday, 9/29, at 9:20am. This drill is completed with the support and guidance of the Lake County Sheriff's Office and will take no more than 15 minutes. We do this to remind and refresh students and staff of our safety protocol in the event of an emergency. Please reach out to Brandon Pedersen, [email protected] if you have any questions.
Activity Bus: It has been very encouraging to see all of the students and families participating and supporting students in our sporting events, and clubs. We wanted to remind you of the activity bus times so that we can help students and staff get home safely. Our activity buses depart from our school at 4:30 and 5:00pm each evening Monday through Thursday. If your student is attending a game or participating in a club, and is not choosing to take the buses, they need to be picked up by 5:00. Thank you for your help in getting our students home safely.
Dia De Los Muertos: We are excited to announce that our Dia De Los Muertos event is coming back this year! It will be held on October 28th, 6:00-8:00pm. Here is the flyer for more additional information. This promises to be a good time with activities for all ages. We hope to see you and your family there.
Stevenson Cheerleading Clinic: Any children in kindergarten through 8th grade is invited to attend Stevenon’s Cheerleading Clinic on October 13th from 5:00-7:30pm. Here is the flyer for more information.
Community Education Workshop: Mundelein’s STAND-UP Coalition will be holding a community event in the cafeteria at Mundelein High School next Thursday, 9/29, from 7:00-8:30pm. This evening they will be covering the topic of “Vaping: Overview, Prevention, and Regulation. Translation will be provided. Here is the flyer for more information.
Parent University: Thank you to all that attended the SEL committee’s second Parent University this year on “Helping Students Cope with Difficult Situations.” If you missed the presentation, it still can be viewed here. Stay posted for the SEL committee’s next Parent University on 10/12 entitled, “Tools and Strategies to Support your Child’s Social-Emotional Health.” We hope to see you then!
Technology Exploration: Lake County Tech Campus is excited to announce this year’s Future Quest Middle School Career Exploration Day is on October 19, 2022! This is an opportunity for 7th and 8th graders to experience career opportunities in any of their 20 different program areas. Here is the link to access these programs. The event gives students the opportunity to experience three different career programs and it will run from 3:30 to 7:00pm. A bus will be provided to and from the event and there is no cost. Lake County Tech will provide students with pizza, cookies and water on that evening as well. If your child is interested please complete this Form. A survey will be sent out as the event gets closer so that students will be able to choose the three technology fields they would like to explore that night.
Smile Dentist: The SMILE Dentist is coming to West Oak Campus on October 18th. Please complete this form and send it to your child's school. If you have any questions, please contact the school nurse, Julie Marchese at 847-388-2599.

Estimados estudiantes y familias de la escuela secundaria West Oak:
Hola de nuevo, esperamos que hayan tenido una semana maravillosa y estén disfrutando de nuestro clima de otoño. Tenga en cuenta que tendremos un fin de semana de tres días mientras celebramos Rosh Hashaná el próximo lunes 26 de septiembre. Tuvimos una semana ocupada esta semana con deportes y varios clubs comenzando después de la escuela. También esperamos con ansias la próxima semana, ya que tendremos nuestra asamblea de fin de mes para todos los estudiantes el viernes 30 de septiembre. A continuación se presentan algunos elementos adicionales que suceden en West Oak. ¡Ten un excelente fin de semana!
Recaudación de fondos de Culver's: Gracias a todos los que asistieron a la recaudación de fondos de nuestro PTO en Culver's esta semana. Nuestro personal se divirtió mucho sirviendo a nuestras familias y el PTO pudo recaudar fondos del evento. Esté atento a las futuras actividades de cena fuera del PTO que se realizarán pronto.
Desafío de Fútbol: Este sábado 24 de septiembre a las 10:00 AM se realizará un desafío de fútbol en la Cancha de Fútbol Santa María del Popolo. Este evento está abierto a niños y niñas de 9 a 14 años y es un concurso para ver quién puede anotar el mayor número de puntos en tiros penales. Este evento promete ser divertido para todos. Simulacro de encierro estricto: el campus de West Oak del D76 llevará a cabo nuestro primer "simulacro de encierro estricto" que tendrá lugar el próximo jueves 29 de septiembre a las 9:20 a. m. Este simulacro se completa con el apoyo y la orientación de la Oficina del Sheriff del Condado de Lake y no tomará más de 15 minutos. Hacemos esto para recordar y actualizar a los estudiantes y al personal sobre nuestro protocolo de seguridad en caso de una emergencia.con Brandon Pedersen, [email protected] si tiene alguna pregunta.
Autobús de actividades: Ha sido muy alentador ver a todos los estudiantes y familias participando y apoyando a los estudiantes en nuestros eventos deportivos y clubes. Nuestros autobuses de actividades salen de nuestra escuela a las 4:30 y 5:00 p. m. todas las noches de lunes a jueves. Si su estudiante asiste a un juego o participa en un club y no elige tomar los autobuses, debe recogerlo a las 5:00 a.m. Gracias por su ayuda para llevar a nuestros estudiantes a casa de manera segura.
Dia De Los Muertos: ¡Nos complace anunciar que nuestro evento Dia De Los Muertos regresará este año! Se llevará a cabo el 28 de octubre de 6:00 a 8:00 p. m. Exploración tecnológica: ¡El campus tecnológico del condado de Lake se complace en anunciar que el Día de exploración profesional de la escuela secundaria Future Quest de este año es el 19 de octubre de 2022! Esta es una oportunidad para que los estudiantes de 7.º y 8.º grado experimenten oportunidades profesionales en cualquiera de sus 20 áreas de programas diferentes. Aquí está el enlace para acceder a estos programas. El evento brinda a los estudiantes la oportunidad de experimentar tres programas profesionales diferentes y se llevará a cabo de 3:30 a 7:00 p. m. Se proporcionará un autobús hacia y desde el evento y no hay costo. Lake County Tech también proporcionará a los estudiantes pizza, galletas y agua esa noche. Si su hijo está interesado, complete este formulario. Se enviará una encuesta a medida que se acerque el evento para que los estudiantes puedan elegir los tres campos tecnológicos que les gustaría explorar esa noche.
