Early Release Friday, 5.28.2021
This coming Friday, May 28th will be an early release day for WOIS. Dismissal will be at 11:30am.
Lockdown Drill
On Wednesday, May 26th, we will be conducting our annual Lockdown Drill at WOIS. The Lockdown Drill will be facilitated by the Lake County Sheriff’s Department. Please read the letter, linked here, for more information. We will communicate with families once the drill is completed.
WOIS 5th Grade Families
Incoming 6th Graders: A presentation was given this past Tuesday by Mr. Cunningham and a few members of West Oak Middle School outlining valuable information for students entering 6th grade and their parents. If you were not able to attend the presentation here is the Slide Deck. A-Z Countdown!!
As we begin the final weeks of school, WOIS will begin our A-Z countdown to the last day of school this coming Thursday, April 29th. You can view the calendar here. When there are days that the activity or theme is only able to be facilitated by in person students, an alternate theme or activity will be provided for all remote learners. A-Z Schedule
School Lunch
Hot lunch is offered to all District 76 students, free of charge. If your student would like hot lunch, it will be available each day, and you do not need to order it. If you would like to know what is being served, the Food Services web page is linked here. Just click on the drop down menu to view the monthly hot lunch menu. Curbside pick-up is from 11:00am - 1:00pm on Tuesday and Friday at the West Oak Campus.

Happiness Advantage by the SEL Committee: As many of our students throughout the district have been testing this month, we wanted to offer a little “food for thought” as it pertains to happiness. Different studies have shown that having students think of something happy, or more specifically the happiest day of your life, had a positive effect on their ability to test. Students “primed” with happiness, significantly outperformed their peers while taking standardized math exams completing them more quickly with fewer errors. We as adults can benefit from this too. During times that we are tested, remind yourself of what happiness is and what it means to you so that you can be at your peak ability.

Community News
Covid 19 Vaccination for 12 year olds and older!
Mundelein High School will host a COVID-19 vaccination event for anyone 12 years of age and older, from 3 to 9 p.m. Thursday, May 27. Approximately 52 people can receive the Pfizer vaccine every 50 minutes during the event. The second dose will be given at the same place and times Thursday, June 17. Those interested must sign up online at https://kordinator.mhealthcoach.net/vcl/1620774299333. Vaccinations will be administered in the North Gym at the high school, 1350 W. Hawley St. Children under 18 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

La ventaja de la felicidad por parte del Comité SEL: Como muchos de nuestros estudiantes en todo el distrito han estado evaluando este mes, queríamos ofrecer un poco de “reflexión” en lo que respecta a la felicidad. Diferentes estudios han demostrado que hacer que los estudiantes piensen en algo feliz, o más específicamente en el día más feliz de su vida, tuvo un efecto positivo en su capacidad para evaluar. Los estudiantes "preparados" con felicidad, superaron significativamente a sus compañeros mientras tomaban exámenes de matemáticas estandarizados y los completaron más rápidamente y con menos errores. Nosotros, como adultos, también podemos beneficiarnos de esto. Durante los momentos en que nos ponen a prueba, recuérdese lo que es la felicidad y lo que significa para usted para que pueda estar en su máxima capacidad.

¡Vacunación Covid 19 para niños de 12 años y mayores!
La Escuela Preparatoria de Mundelein organizará un evento de vacunacion COVID-19 para cualquier persona de 12 años o más, de 3 a 9 p.m. el Jueves, Mayo 27 Aproximadamente 52 personas pueden recibir la vacuna Pfizer cada 50 minutos durante el evento. La segunda dosis se dará en el mismo lugar y en el mismo horario el Jueves 17 de Junio. Los interesados deben registrarse en línea en https://kordinator.mhealthcoach.net/vcl/1620774299333.
