Dear Students and Families of West Oak Middle School,
We had a very successful week with our clubs, activities, and athletics starting up, along with a lot of great teaching and learning going on in our classrooms. Our students are getting into good routines and are doing a great job in their classes! Thank you to everyone that attended our SEL Committee’s Parent University and PTO fundraiser at Tina G’s this week. Late Start Monday: Classes will start at 10:00am this Monday, 9/11. All bus pick-up times will be approximately 90 minutes later than they usually are. Here is our bus schedule for that day.
Bus Routes: Working with West Oak Intermediate School, 5th grade students that are currently in Band, will be taking the middle school buses home after school, each night starting on Monday 9/11. In order to keep our bus times consistent at the middle school, we have not altered any stop times or locations. Any 5th grader students needing transportation will be assigned bus routes based upon where they live, and with this, some bus routes will see more students added than others. It has been communicated to our 5th grade students that they will be sitting in the front of the bus, and due to the increased number of students on the buses, larger band instrument cases will not be able to be brought home.
Lockdown Drill: We will be conducting our annual Lockdown Drill on Thursday, 9/14. Here is the letter that gives detailed information of the event. Let the Main Office know if you have any questions.
Picture Day: Picture Day is coming up for all middle school students on September 20th. Please contact the office for more information.
STEM For Girls: The Lake County STEM for Girls Conference is returning again this year! The Lake County STEM for Girls Conference is hosted by a group of educators volunteering to bring STEM to middle school girls in our county. The conference hosts women from various STEM fields who work with the attending students by engaging in hands-on activities with real-world applications. Each session is interactive and inspiring! We have a STEM fair and also invite parents/guardians to attend adult sessions to learn more about saving for college, how to support students in high school academic paths, and mindfulness. There will be a fantastic keynote and an enthusiastic closing for both students and parents! This year the conference is being held at Vernon Hills High School on November 4th, 2023. Back to School Bash: Our Back to School Bash will be this Friday, September 8th, from 6:00-8:00pm. There will be food for purchase, entertainment for the kids, raffle prizes, Spirit Wear, and the School of Rock will be performing. Everyone is invited to join in on celebrating our heading back to school. Tickets may be purchased in advance by sending money to school with your child, using our QR code on the handout that was sent home, or on our PTO website. Volunteers are needed and will receive free admission and one free raffle ticket. Please contact [email protected] if you are interested.
PTO Fundraiser: Our next Dine Out Night is September 20th at Culver’s in Mundelein. The Dine Out Night starts at 5:30pm. We are looking for volunteers to help with this event. We need greeters and volunteers to deliver the food to the tables and drive thru. Contact [email protected] if you are interested in helping out.
Spirit Wear: Our Spirit Wear store is open for just a few more days! Check out the PTO website or visit us at the Back to School Bash to place your order. There are lots of new items to choose from this year. The last day to order is September 10th. Delivery of your items to school or home is available.
PTO Meeting: Our next PTO meeting will be held Tuesday September 26th at 6:00pm in the library at Diamond Lake School. Everyone is welcome to attend! Soccer Challenge: The Knights of Columbus at Santa Maria del Popolo in Mundelein will be sponsoring a Soccer Challenge for both boys and girls ages 9 - 14 years on September 16th. There is no cost to the child for participation. Here are the flyers for this event. English/Spanish
School Text Messages: School updates are communicated regularly via email and text. Please contact the Main Office if you need to update your personal email. We also encourage families to sign up for our text messaging service which can be accessed here.
Google Classroom and PowerSchool: All students have received their Chromebooks this week. As a reminder, students should charge their Chromebooks each night and bring their Chromebook and charger to school every day. Teachers will be using Google Classroom to share assignments and due dates with students. Additionally, we encourage parents to get involved with how their child is doing by setting up an account through our Parent Portal. Estimados estudiantes y familias de la escuela secundaria West Oak,
Tuvimos una semana muy exitosa con el inicio de nuestros clubes, actividades y deportes, junto con una gran enseñanza y aprendizaje en nuestras aulas. ¡Nuestros estudiantes están adoptando buenas rutinas y están haciendo un gran trabajo en sus clases! Gracias a todos los que asistieron a la Universidad para Padres de nuestro Comité SEL y a la recaudación de fondos del PTO en Tina G's esta semana. Revise los siguientes anuncios y no dude en comunicarse con la oficina principal si tiene alguna pregunta. Ten un excelente fin de semana.
Lunes de inicio tardío: las clases comenzarán a las 10:00 a. m. este lunes 11 de septiembre. Todos los horarios de recogida del autobús serán aproximadamente 90 minutos más tarde de lo habitual. Aquí está nuestro horario de autobuses para ese día.
Rutas de autobús: en colaboración con la Escuela Intermedia West Oak, los estudiantes de quinto grado que actualmente están en la banda tomarán los autobuses de la escuela intermedia a casa después de la escuela, todas las noches a partir del lunes 11 de septiembre. Para mantener constantes los horarios de nuestros autobuses en la escuela intermedia, no hemos modificado los horarios ni las ubicaciones de las paradas. A cualquier estudiante de quinto grado que necesite transporte se le asignan rutas de autobús según su lugar de residencia y, con esto, algunas rutas de autobús agregarán más estudiantes que otras. Se les ha comunicado a nuestros estudiantes de 5to grado que se sentarán en el frente del autobús y, debido al mayor número de estudiantes en los autobuses, no se podrán llevar a casa estuches de instrumentos de banda más grandes.
Simulacro de encierro: Realizaremos nuestro simulacro de encierro anual el jueves 14 de septiembre. Aquí está la carta que da información detallada del evento. Informe a la oficina principal si tiene alguna pregunta.
Día de la fotografía: El día de la fotografía se acerca para todos los estudiantes de secundaria el 20 de septiembre. Comuníquese con la oficina para obtener más información.
STEM para niñas: ¡La Conferencia STEM para niñas del condado de Lake regresa nuevamente este año! La Conferencia STEM para niñas del condado de Lake es organizada por un grupo de educadores que se ofrecen como voluntarios para llevar STEM a las niñas de secundaria de nuestro condado. La conferencia acoge a mujeres de diversos campos STEM que trabajan con los estudiantes asistentes participando en actividades prácticas con aplicaciones del mundo real. ¡Cada sesión es interactiva e inspiradora! Tenemos una feria STEM y también invitamos a padres/tutores a asistir a sesiones de adultos para aprender más sobre cómo ahorrar para la universidad, cómo apoyar a los estudiantes en sus trayectorias académicas de la escuela secundaria y atención plena. ¡Habrá una presentación fantástica y un cierre entusiasta tanto para los estudiantes como para los padres! Fiesta de regreso a clases: Nuestra fiesta de regreso a clases será este viernes 8 de septiembre de 6:00 a 8:00 p. m. Habrá comida para comprar, entretenimiento para los niños, premios de rifa, ropa espiritual y actuará la Escuela de Rock. Todos están invitados a unirse para celebrar nuestro regreso a clases. Los boletos se pueden comprar por adelantado enviando dinero a la escuela con su hijo, usando nuestro código QR en el folleto que se envió a casa o en nuestro sitio web del PTO. Recaudación de fondos del PTO: Nuestra próxima noche para cenar fuera es el 20 de septiembre en Culver's en Mundelein. La noche para cenar comienza a las 5:30 p.m. Estamos buscando voluntarios para ayudar con este evento. Desafío de fútbol: Los Caballeros de Colón en Santa María del Popolo en Mundelein patrocinará un Desafío de fútbol para niños y niñas de 9 a 14 años el 16 de septiembre. La participación no tiene ningún costo para el niño. Aquí están los folletos de este evento. Inglés Español
