Dear Students and Families of West Oak Middle School,
We had a very busy, but productive week this week. Thank you to all the families who attended our middle school curriculum night. It was great to visit with all of you and share what your child will be learning for the year. We also had large numbers of students go out for our sports teams this fall season. We cannot wait to start seeing them compete against other schools starting next week. Finally, we finished our first round of STAR Reading and Math testing with our students doing a fabulous job. Below are our updated announcements for this week. Please review the following announcements and feel free to reach out to the Main Office if you have any questions. Have a great weekend.
Parent University: Our SEL Committee will be holding their next Parent University this coming Wednesday, 9/6, at 5:30pm. This presentation will be on our District's Executive Functioning program and how families can help their child learn how to be more organized. This year, we will be offering a hybrid option where families can attend virtually, or in-person, at the Sparkle Center located in the Diamond Lake School. We look forward to seeing you there!
Back to School Bash: Our Back to School Bash will be next Friday, September 8th, from 6:00-8:00pm. We will have food for purchase, entertainment for the kids, raffle prizes, Spirit Wear, and the School of Rock will be performing. Everyone is invited to join us to celebrate heading back to school. Tickets may be purchased in advance by sending money to school with your child, using our QR code on the handout that was sent home, or on our PTO website. We are still looking for volunteers for this event. Volunteers will receive free admission and one free raffle ticket. Please contact [email protected] if you are interested.
PTO Spirit Wear: Our Spirit Wear store is currently open! We will be accepting orders until September 9th. Items are available to pick up at school or have delivered to your home. This year we have a large variety of items to choose from. There is something for everyone! The QR code for shopping and ordering can be found on the handout that was sent home as well as on the PTO website.
PTO Fundraiser: Our next dine out night will be at Tina G's on September 5th. Dine in or carry out is available with a portion of the day’s proceeds being donated back to the District 76 PTO. Be sure to mention District 76 when ordering. Here is the flyer (English/Spanish) for more information.
Soccer Challenge: The Knights of Columbus at Santa Maria del Popolo in Mundelein will be sponsoring a Soccer Challenge for both boys and girls ages 9 - 14 years on September 16th. There is no cost to the child for participation. Here are the flyers for this event. English/Spanish
Parent Resource: OMNI Behavioral Health Services would like to share with you an amazing parenting resource that could be helpful to your community. Nurturing Parenting Group is run through OMNI’s counseling team and meets virtually so there is no need to commute to Buffalo Grove. Here is a flyer for more information.
School Text Messages: School updates are communicated regularly via email and text. Please contact the Main Office if you need to update your personal email. We also encourage families to sign up for our text messaging service which can be accessed here.
Bus Routes: All eligible bus students have been notified of their pick up and drop off street intersections. Please refer to this document, which is also located on our building website, for the times of these pick ups and drop offs. New to this year, 5th grade Band students will also be taking the middle school buses home in the afternoon. Families are encouraged to opt into receiving instant notifications when delays or incidents affect their child’s bus times by creating an account with our Triversa Ride 360 app.
Breakfast and Lunch: All students in our district will be able to eat breakfast and lunch at no cost to families this year. Additionally, students will be able to choose from a cold and hot lunch option each day. We hope that this allows for students to find food options they prefer and that are best for them.
Google Classroom and PowerSchool: All students have received their Chromebooks this week. As a reminder, students should charge their Chromebooks each night and bring their Chromebook and charger to school every day. Teachers will be using Google Classroom to share assignments and due dates with students. Additionally, we encourage parents to get involved with how their child is doing by setting up an account through our Parent Portal. Estimados estudiantes y familias de la escuela secundaria West Oak,
Esta semana hemos tenido una semana muy ocupada pero productiva. Gracias a todas las familias que asistieron a nuestra noche de currículo de la escuela secundaria. Fue fantástico visitarlos a todos y compartir lo que su hijo aprenderá durante el año. También tuvimos un gran número de estudiantes que participaron en nuestros equipos deportivos esta temporada de otoño. No podemos esperar a empezar a verlos competir contra otras escuelas a partir de la próxima semana. Finalmente, terminamos nuestra primera ronda de pruebas STAR de Lectura y Matemáticas y nuestros estudiantes hicieron un trabajo fabuloso. Universidad para padres: Nuestro Comité SEL llevará a cabo su próxima Universidad para padres el próximo miércoles 6 de septiembre a las 5:30 p.m. Esta presentación tratará sobre el programa de Funcionamiento Ejecutivo de nuestro Distrito y cómo las familias pueden ayudar a sus hijos a aprender a ser más organizados. Fiesta de Regreso a Clases: Nuestra Fiesta de Regreso a Clases será el siguiente Viernes 8 de septiembre, de 6PM a 8PM. Tendremos comida para comprar, entretenimiento para los niños, premios de rifa, ropa espiritual y actuará la Escuela de Rock. Todos están invitados a unirse a nosotros para celebrar el regreso a clases. Los boletos se pueden comprar por adelantado enviando dinero a la escuela con su hijo, usando nuestro código QR en el folleto que se envió a casa o en nuestro sitio web del PTO. Recurso para padres: OMNI Behavioral Health Services quisiera compartir con usted un increíble recurso para padres que podría ser útil para su comunidad. Desayuno y almuerzo: todos los estudiantes de nuestro distrito podrán desayunar y almorzar sin costo para las familias este año. Además, los estudiantes podrán elegir entre una opción de almuerzo frío y caliente todos los días. Esperamos que esto permita a los estudiantes encontrar las opciones de comida que prefieran y que sean mejores para ellos.
Google Classroom y PowerSchool: todos los estudiantes recibieron sus Chromebooks esta semana. Como recordatorio, los estudiantes deben cargar sus Chromebooks todas las noches y traer su Chromebook y su cargador a la escuela todos los días. Los maestros utilizarán Google Classroom para compartir tareas y fechas de entrega con los estudiantes. Además, alentamos a los padres a involucrarse en el desempeño de sus hijos configurando una cuenta a través de nuestro Portal para padres.
