August 25th: Diamond Lake School Weekly Updates

Dear Diamond Lake School (DLS) Families,

Thursday, August 31st, we will be hosting our 2023-2024 Curriculum Night.  During Curriculum Night, you will have the opportunity to learn more about grade level expectations, academic areas of study, Specials classes, and support services that we provide for our students.  We will present important information to help us with a great start to the school year.  

Presentations will begin promptly at 6:00 pm.  Families are welcome to enter DLS starting at 5:45 pm.  Below you will see room numbers for all teachers listed alphabetically and by grade level.  Families will start in their child’s homeroom and then move to the Gym for a presentation from Dr. Berger and the introduction of the Specials Team, Student Services Team, and Intervention Team.  Please be aware that students are not to attend Curriculum Night.  If you are unable to attend Curriculum Night, presentations will be posted online for families to view.

Next week we will also be conducting our Fall STAR assessments.  All students Kindergarten through 2nd Grade will be engaging in the English Language Arts and Math assessments.  Students in 1st Grade and 2nd Grade Dual Language classrooms will also take the Spanish Language Assessment.  The purpose of this assessment cycle is to gather the data needed to show a baseline of student performance at the start of the school year.  Staff use the data to determine students’ strengths and needs in order to appropriately differentiate instruction, determine if speciality services are needed, and challenge students by engaging in complex tasks.  In the event your child is absent next week, we will schedule special times for your child to be assessed.  For more information about the assessments, click HERE to access the STAR Family Resources page.

Assessment cycles will also occur in the Winter and the Spring to measure how much academic growth our students have made since the start of the school year.  Assessments are designed based on a level of mastery of grade level Common Core Standards and are appropriately scheduled in relation to early childhood development.  The Illinois State Board of Education provides frameworks of all standards for students PreK-12 Grade.  Click HERE to view the specific subject and grade level standards.  These standards are used in designing our curriculum and setting academic performance goals for individual students and our building as a whole.  

It’s time to celebrate the start of a new school year with our D76 Parent Teacher Organization (PTO).  Our Back to School Bash will be held on Friday, September 8th from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the West Oak Campus. There will be food available for cash only purchase, and we will also have the School of Rock performing, raffle prizes, and fun activities!  We look forward to coming together as a community and celebrating an awesome new school year!

Important Information

Parent University:  Thank you everyone who attended our SEL Committee's first Parent University this week on the subject of our 1:1 Chromebook program. Our Director for Technology, Eric Hansen, gave insight on best practices as well as expectations for students in our district that were issued a Chromebook this year. A recording of this presentation is attached HERE if you missed this event. Our next Parent University will be on Wednesday, September 6th at 5:30pm and will be on the subject of our Executive Functioning program and how families can help their child be more organized.  We hope to see you then!

Required Health Forms: Please be aware that per the state of Illinois all students entering Preschool, Kindergarten, and 2nd Grade must have their age appropriate health forms submitted to our front office by Monday, October 16th.  Below you will see the requirements for each grade level.  Please note that students entering 1st Grade are not required to submit health forms of any nature.  If we do not receive the required forms by Monday, October 16th, your students will not be able to attend school until the forms are completed and turned into our office. 

Preschool: Physical only

Kindergarten: Immunization, physical, dental, and vision

2nd Grade: Dental only 

Medication Authorization Form:  If your child needs to take medication of any kind throughout the school day, in response to allergies, or under specific circumstances, families are required to complete the D76 Medical Authorization form.  Portions of the form must be completed by your child’s physician.  Click HERE to access the form.  In addition to the completed form, families must provide the medication in its original container.  Printed copies of the form are also available in our front office. 

Change of Clothes: Students at DLS have a locker to store their outdoor clothing, a change of shoes, and backpack each day.  We highly encourage all families to also provide a full change of clothes; top, bottom, undergarments, and socks to leave in your child’s locker in case of a spill in the lunch room or a toilet accident.  Please place the clothes in a bag to leave on the top shelf of your child’s locker.

Estimadas familias de la escuela Diamond Lake (DLS)

El jueves 31 de agosto organizaremos nuestra Noche del Plan de Estudios 2023-2024. Durante la Noche de Currículo, tendrá la oportunidad de aprender más sobre las expectativas de nivel de grado, áreas académicas de estudio, clases especiales y servicios de apoyo que brindamos a nuestros estudiantes. Presentaremos información importante para ayudarnos con un gran comienzo del año escolar.

Las presentaciones comenzarán puntualmente a las 6:00 pm. Las familias pueden ingresar a DLS a partir de las 5:45 p. m. A continuación verá los números de salón de todos los maestros enumerados alfabéticamente y por nivel de grado. Las familias comenzarán en el salón de clases de sus hijos y luego se trasladarán al gimnasio para una presentación del Dr. Berger y la presentación del Equipo de Especiales, el Equipo de Servicios Estudiantiles y el Equipo de Intervención. Tenga en cuenta que los estudiantes no deben asistir a la Noche de Currículo. Si no puede asistir a la Noche del Currículo, las presentaciones se publicarán en línea para que las familias las vean.

La próxima semana también realizaremos nuestras evaluaciones Fall STAR. Todos los estudiantes desde jardín de infantes hasta segundo grado participarán en las evaluaciones de artes del lenguaje inglés y matemáticas. Los estudiantes en aulas de lenguaje dual de 1er y 2do grado también tomarán la Evaluación del idioma español. El propósito de este ciclo de evaluación es recopilar los datos necesarios para mostrar una línea de base del desempeño de los estudiantes al comienzo del año escolar. El personal utiliza los datos para determinar las fortalezas y necesidades de los estudiantes con el fin de diferenciar adecuadamente la instrucción, determinar si se necesitan servicios especializados y desafiar a los estudiantes al participar en tareas complejas. En caso de que su hijo esté ausente la próxima semana, programaremos horarios especiales para que su hijo sea evaluado. Los ciclos de evaluación también se llevarán a cabo en invierno y primavera para medir cuánto crecimiento académico han logrado nuestros estudiantes desde el inicio del año escolar. Las evaluaciones están diseñadas en función de un nivel de dominio de los Estándares Básicos Comunes del nivel de grado y están programadas adecuadamente en relación con el desarrollo de la primera infancia. La Junta de Educación del Estado de Illinois proporciona marcos de todos los estándares para estudiantes de grados PreK-12. Estos estándares se utilizan para diseñar nuestro plan de estudios y establecer objetivos de rendimiento académico para estudiantes individuales y para nuestro edificio en su conjunto.

Es hora de celebrar el inicio de un nuevo año escolar con nuestra Organización de Padres y Maestros (PTO) del D76. Nuestra fiesta de regreso a clases se llevará a cabo el viernes 8 de septiembre de 6:00 a 8:00 pm en el campus de West Oak. ¡Habrá comida disponible para compra únicamente en efectivo y también tendremos la presentación de la Escuela de Rock, premios de rifa y actividades divertidas! ¡Esperamos unirnos como comunidad y celebrar un nuevo año escolar increíble!

Información importante

Universidad de padres:  Gracias a todos los que asistieron a la primera Universidad para padres de nuestro Comité SEL esta semana sobre el tema de nuestro programa Chromebook 1:1. Nuestro Director de Tecnología, Eric Hansen, brindó información sobre las mejores prácticas y las expectativas para los estudiantes de nuestro distrito a quienes se les entregó un Chromebook este año. Se adjunta AQUÍ una grabación de esta presentación si se perdió este evento. Nuestra próxima Universidad para padres será el miércoles 6 de septiembre a las 5:30 p.m. y tratará el tema de nuestro programa de Funcionamiento Ejecutivo y cómo las familias pueden ayudar a sus hijos a ser más organizados. ¡Esperamos verte entonces!

Formularios de salud requeridos: Tenga en cuenta que, según el estado de Illinois, todos los estudiantes que ingresan a preescolar, jardín de infantes y segundo grado deben presentar los formularios de salud apropiados para su edad en nuestra oficina principal antes del lunes 16 de octubre. A continuación verá los requisitos para cada nivel de grado. Tenga en cuenta que los estudiantes que ingresan a 1er grado no están obligados a presentar formularios de salud de ningún tipo. Si no recibimos los formularios requeridos antes del lunes 16 de octubre, sus estudiantes no podrán asistir a la escuela hasta que los formularios estén completos y entregados a nuestra oficina. 

Preescolar: solo físico

Kindergarten: vacunas, físicas, dentales y de la vista.

2do grado: solo dental

Formulario de autorización de medicación:  Si su hijo necesita tomar medicamentos de cualquier tipo durante el día escolar, en respuesta a alergias o en circunstancias específicas, las familias deben completar el formulario de Autorización médica D76. El médico de su hijo debe completar partes del formulario. Haga clic AQUÍ para acceder al formulario. Además del formulario completo, las familias deberán entregar el medicamento en su envase original. Copias impresas del formulario también están disponibles en nuestra oficina principal. 

Cambio de ropa: Los estudiantes de DLS tienen un casillero para guardar su ropa de exterior, un cambio de zapatos y una mochila cada día. Recomendamos encarecidamente a todas las familias que también proporcionen un cambio de ropa completo; ropa superior, inferior, ropa interior y calcetines para dejar en el casillero de su hijo en caso de un derrame en el comedor o un accidente en el baño. Coloque la ropa en una bolsa para dejarla en el estante superior del casillero de su hijo.
