Dear Diamond Lake School (DLS) Families,
Tuesday, December 6th through Friday, December 9th we will be conducting our Winter STAR assessments. All students Kindergarten through 2nd Grade will be engaging in the English Language Arts and Math assessments. The purpose of this assessment cycle is to gather the data needed to show how much academic growth our students have made since the Fall testing cycle which students participated in at the start of the school year. Students will also take these assessments in the Spring to measure their final rate of academic growth for the 2022-2023 school year. Students in 1st and 2nd Grade who are enrolled in our Dual Language program will also take the Spanish Language Arts assessment. Kindergarten Dual Language students will participate in the Spanish Language Arts assessment in the Spring only. Assessments are designed based on the mastery of grade level Common Core Standards and are appropriately scheduled in relation to early childhood development.
In an effort to appropriately prepare our students for the testing cycle and to ensure that we are collecting accurate data, we highly encourage students to get a good night’s sleep each night and arrive at school on time. Breakfast will be provided for all students so they are energized and ready for their assessments. We also encourage families to conduct motivational conversations with their children. Remind children to try their best, take their time, and carefully read all questions and answer choices. Soothing, calming conversations provide students with support which helps to ease testing anxiety. The assessments are used as an opportunity for students to show how much they have learned and how they can apply skills to various types of Reading passages and Math problems. In the event that your child is absent next week, we will schedule make-up testing sessions the week of December 12th.
Cold and flu season is here. We are experiencing a rather significant number of both students and staff who are testing positive for Influenza A. If your child is experiencing any type of illness, we ask that you please keep them home. With the temperatures dropping, cold and flu are very common at this time. Click HERE for information from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention regarding symptoms and identifying the difference between a common cold and the flu. Also, to prevent illness, we highly encourage students to be dressed in a warm winter coat, hat, gloves, and scarf. Please remember students do go outside for recess each day so long as the temperature is at a Real Feel of 15 degrees and above.
Picture Retake Day is scheduled for this Thursday, December 8th. If you would like your child to retake their school picture, no problem at all. Your child must return the original picture package or proof that you received last month. All students received a reminder today and a new picture order form will be sent home on Monday. If your child is retaking their picture, they must return the original picture package you ordered along with the new order form on Thursday. If you prefer to pay by credit or debit card, please order the new pictures online at www.mylifetouch.com. Through the online ordering system, you will be asked to enter our Picture Retake Day ID which is EVT6TC9FC. You will also see this ID number printed on the reminder. If you order online, your child DOES NOT need to return the new order form to DLS, but they do still need to return the original package or proofs. Proofs of the new picture will be sent home with students after we return from Winter Break. If your child is new to DLS or they were absent on our first Picture Day, they are welcome to take their picture on Thursday, December 8th as well.
This Monday, December 5th is a Late Start Day. School begins at 9:10 am on Late Start Days at DLS. Students are permitted into the building starting at 8:55 am. Breakfast is also served on Late Start Days.

Estimadas familias de la Escuela Diamond Lake (DLS),
Del martes 6 de diciembre al viernes 9 de diciembre realizaremos nuestras evaluaciones de Invierno STAR. Todos los estudiantes de Kindergarten a segundo grado participarán en las evaluaciones de artes del lenguaje inglés y matemáticas. El propósito de este ciclo de evaluación es recopilar los datos necesarios para mostrar cuánto crecimiento académico han logrado nuestros estudiantes desde el ciclo de pruebas de otoño en el que participaron los estudiantes al comienzo del año escolar. Los estudiantes también tomarán estas evaluaciones en la primavera para medir su tasa final de crecimiento académico para el año escolar 2022-2023. Los estudiantes de 1.° y 2.° grado que estén inscritos en nuestro programa de Lenguaje Dual también tomarán la evaluación de Artes del Lenguaje en Español. Los estudiantes de Kindergarten de Lenguaje Dual participarán en la evaluación de Artes del Lenguaje Español solo en la primavera. Las evaluaciones están diseñadas en base al dominio de los Estándares Básicos Comunes de nivel de grado y están programadas adecuadamente en relación con el desarrollo de la primera infancia..
En un esfuerzo por preparar adecuadamente a nuestros estudiantes para el ciclo de pruebas y para asegurarnos de que estamos recopilando datos precisos, recomendamos encarecidamente a los estudiantes que duerman bien todas las noches y lleguen a la escuela a tiempo. Se proporcionará desayuno a todos los estudiantes para que estén llenos de energía y listos para sus evaluaciones. También alentamos a las familias a realizar conversaciones motivadoras con sus hijos. Recuerde a los niños que hagan su mejor esfuerzo, que se tomen su tiempo y que lean detenidamente todas las preguntas y opciones de respuesta. La temporada de gripe y frío está aquí. Estamos experimentando un número bastante significativo de estudiantes y personal que están dando positivo por Influenza A. Si su hijo está experimentando algún tipo de enfermedad, le pedimos que lo mantenga en casa. Con la caída de las temperaturas, los resfriados y la gripe son muy comunes en esta época. Además, para prevenir enfermedades, recomendamos encarecidamente a los estudiantes que se vistan con un abrigo de invierno abrigado, gorro, guantes y bufanda. Recuerde que los estudiantes salen al recreo todos los días siempre que la temperatura sea de 15 grados o más.
Día de retomar la foto está programado para este jueves 8 de diciembre. Si desea que su hijo vuelva a tomar la foto de la escuela, no hay problema. Su hijo debe devolver el paquete de imágenes original o la prueba que recibió el mes pasado. Todos los estudiantes recibieron un recordatorio hoy y el lunes se enviará a casa un nuevo formulario de pedido de fotografías. Si su hijo vuelve a tomarse la fotografía, debe devolver el paquete de fotografías original que ordenó junto con el nuevo formulario de pedido el jueves. Si prefiere pagar con tarjeta de crédito o débito, solicite las nuevas imágenes en línea en www.mylifetouch.com. A través del sistema de pedidos en línea, se le pedirá que ingrese nuestra identificación del Día de Retomar la Foto, que es EVT6TC9FC. También verá este número de identificación impreso en el recordatorio. Si realiza un pedido en línea, su hijo NO NECESITA devolver el nuevo formulario de pedido a DLS, pero aún debe devolver el paquete original o las pruebas. Las pruebas de la nueva imagen se enviarán a casa con los estudiantes después de que regresemos de las vacaciones de invierno. Si su hijo es nuevo en DLS o estuvo ausente en nuestro primer día de fotos, también puede tomarse una foto el jueves 8 de diciembre.
Este lunes 5 de diciembre es un día de inicio tardío. La escuela comienza a las 9:10 am en los días de inicio tardío en DLS. Los estudiantes pueden ingresar al edificio a partir de las 8:55 am. Verá una pestaña en la parte inferior de la hoja de cálculo etiquetada Inicio tardío con toda la información de la ruta del autobús. El desayuno también se sirve en los días de inicio tardío.
