Dear Diamond Lake School (DLS) Families,
It may have been a short week at DLS, but we were certainly busy learning and planning for upcoming events in our building!
We have received several questions from families in regards to the upcoming Valentine’s Day holiday on Tuesday, February 14th. We want to ensure that all our students have the opportunity to celebrate and engage in a special morning of friendship, love, and kindness. Instead of students bringing items from home, we will be providing everything here at DLS. We will be having a building wide event with Celebration Stations. Please see the chart below for what we have planned.
We will kick off the morning with an all school assembly to introduce the activities. Students will then be assigned to a mixed group of Kindergarten, 1st Grade, and 2nd Grade students and led by one of our homeroom teachers. We will have multiples of each station setup throughout the building and additional staff members will be working the stations for us. To continue with our practice of healthy snacks, each student will also receive a bag of Smart Pop Popcorn. We are confident that our students will have a great time celebrating Valentine’s Day in a friendly manner as the DLS community. We appreciate your understanding and ask that you please do not send your child to school with any Valentine’s Day items to pass out to other students.

“Pin Me, I’m Special” | Names of group members will be placed in a bag. Each student will draw the name of a group member and make a special friendship pin for them. |
“Read with Love” | Students will color Valentine’s Day bookmarks and read to their group members. |
“Home Is Where the Heart Is” | Students will create a valentine for a family member to bring home. |
“The Language of Love” | Students will create a mosaic of the words friendship, love, and kindness in multiple languages. |
“Rolling with Kindness” | Students will take turns rolling dice to solve different types of Math problems together. |
“A Day to Remember” | Students will create friendship bracelets for one another in their group as a token of this special day and building new friendships. |
“Linked with Love” | Students will create a building wide friendship chain that we will hang near our front entrance as a memory of this special day. |
Our Positive Behavior Interventions and Support (PBIS) Team continues to motivate students with monthly incentives. For the month of January, we are working hard to collect tally points throughout the building for students who are displaying positive behavior throughout DLS. A total of 300 points for the building will earn us a Pajama/Movie Day on Groundhog’s Day, Thursday, February 2nd. We are currently at 148 tally points, see below. With 8 days of school left in the month of January, I am confident our sparkly Cubs will reach the 300 tally mark goal! We will also be anxiously awaiting to see if Punxsutawaney Phil sees his shadow to determine if we will have six more weeks of Winter or if Spring will be arriving early. Fingers crossed for the
continuation of a mild Winter and an early Spring!

Thank you to everyone that attended our SEL Committee's latest Parent University called "Understanding IEP's." Dr. Olsen and Mr. Freiburger gave a lot of great information on this very important subject. If you missed last night's event, it can be accessed here. Be on the lookout for our next Parent University entitled "Understanding and Promoting Diversity and Inclusion." This will be on February 8th, at 6:30pm. We hope to see you there.
Button Collection
Our Art Teacher, Ms. Jenna Downing, is collecting buttons for a project that our students will be working on. If you have any buttons; any size, any color that you can donate, please send them with your child.

Estimadas familias de la Escuela Diamond Lake (DLS),
Puede que haya sido una semana corta en DLS, ¡pero ciertamente estábamos ocupados aprendiendo y planificando los próximos eventos en nuestro edificio!
Hemos recibido varias preguntas de familias con respecto al próximo feriado del Día de San Valentín el martes 14 de febrero. Queremos asegurarnos de que todos nuestros estudiantes tengan la oportunidad de celebrar y participar en una mañana especial de amistad, amor y amabilidad. En lugar de que los estudiantes traigan artículos de casa, proporcionaremos todo aquí en DLS. Tendremos un evento en todo el edificio con Celebration Stations. Por favor, vea la tabla a continuación para ver lo que hemos planeado.
Comenzaremos la mañana con una asamblea de toda la escuela para presentar las actividades. Luego, los estudiantes serán asignados a un grupo mixto de estudiantes de kindergarten, primer grado y segundo grado y serán dirigidos por uno de nuestros maestros de aula. Tendremos múltiples de cada estación configurada en todo el edificio y miembros adicionales del personal trabajarán en las estaciones para nosotros. Para continuar con nuestra práctica de bocadillos saludables, cada estudiante también recibirá una bolsa de Smart Pop Popcorn. “Unidos con el Amor” | Los estudiantes crearán una cadena de amistad a lo ancho del edificio que colgaremos cerca de nuestra entrada principal como recuerdo de este día especial. |
Nuestro Equipo de Intervenciones y Apoyo para el Comportamiento Positivo (PBIS, por sus siglas en inglés) continúa motivando a los estudiantes con incentivos mensuales. Para el mes de enero, estamos trabajando arduamente para recopilar puntos de conteo en todo el edificio para los estudiantes que muestran un comportamiento positivo en DLS. Un total de 300 puntos por el edificio nos dará un Día de Pijama/Película el Día de la Marmota, el jueves 2 de febrero. Actualmente estamos en 148 puntos de conteo, ver más abajo. ¡Con 8 días de clases restantes en el mes de enero, confío en que nuestros brillantes Cachorros alcanzarán la meta de 300 conteos! También estaremos ansiosos por ver si Punxsutawaney Phil ve su sombra para determinar si tendremos seis semanas más de invierno o si la primavera llegará temprano. Crucemos los dedos por la continuación de un invierno suave y una primavera temprana!

Gracias a todos los que asistieron a la última Universidad de Padres de nuestro Comité SEL llamada "Entendiendo los IEP". Colección de botones
Nuestra maestra de arte, la Sra. Jenna Downing, está recolectando botones para un proyecto en el que trabajarán nuestros estudiantes. Si tiene algún botón; cualquier tamaño, cualquier color que pueda donar, envíelos con su hijo.
