Dear Diamond Lake School (DLS) Families,
Yahoo! Next week DLS will be celebrating Read Across America through both building events and classroom activities. We chose a great selection of student books and each homeroom teacher will read the stories aloud to their students. Please don’t forget, Spring Picture Day is Tuesday! Students will have the opportunity to snap a new photo for the 2022-2023 school year. If you are interested in ordering school pictures, there are two ways to order. If you prefer to pay by cash or check payable to Lifetouch, please complete the picture order form that your child came home with today. They will need to return the form with payment on Spring Picture Day. If you prefer to pay by credit or debit card, please order online at www.mylifetouch.com. Through the online ordering system, you will be asked to enter our Picture Day ID which is EVTZJWW9G. You will also see this ID number printed on the order form. If you order online, your child DOES NOT need to return the order form to DLS. Whichever method of payment you choose, all orders must be submitted by Spring Picture Day. Lifetouch will return pictures to DLS for students to bring home shortly after they are taken. Please be aware there are no retakes for Spring pictures.
Each year, school districts throughout the state of Illinois participate in the 5Essentials Survey of Learning Conditions: Organizing Schools for Improvement. Administered by Chicago Impact through the University of Chicago and sponsored by the Illinois State Board of Education, the 5Essentials survey collects data measuring 5 specific indicators that positively impact success in schools: Effective Leaders, Collaborative Teachers, Involved Families, Supportive Environments, and Ambitious Instruction. In order for data to be considered valid, at least 20% of families within a school must participate. The survey closes Friday, March 31st, and as of today, only about 16% of our families have completed the survey. If you have not completed the 5Essentials Survey, click HERE to access it. Diamond Lake School District 76 is also excited to announce that Diamond Lake School, West Oak Intermediate School and West Oak Middle School are embarking on the process of becoming Marzano High Reliability Schools (HRS). By following the HRS framework, each school has a long-term strategic planning guide with certification levels that build on one another. This extremely rigorous process helps ensure each school is consistently concentrating on effective areas of school operation. Schools will apply for certification for each of the following levels, and once certified, will move on to the next level. The levels are:
Safe, Supportive and Collaborative Culture
Effective Teaching in Every Classroom
Guaranteed and Viable Curriculum
Standards-Referenced Reporting
Competency-Based Education
Part of each of these steps will involve surveys going out to parents in the community. Because all three schools are starting this process at the same time, parents with students in multiple school buildings will receive multiple copies of the same survey. We respectfully ask that parents complete the survey for each school, because each school is measured individually. Given that each school will be applying on their own, future surveys for the next level of certification may vary by building. Weekly PBIS Challenge #3: It is incredibly important for all students to feel safe when they come to school. Discuss with your child how we demonstrate safe behaviors in the classroom, on the bus, at lunch or recess, and in the hallways? Ask your child, how do you make your safe choices sparkle?
Monday, March 6th is a Late Start day. School begins at 9:10 am on Late Start Days at DLS. Students are permitted into the building starting at 8:55 am. Important Information
Kindergarten Orientation
DLS will be hosting Kindergarten Orientation on Thursday, March 16th 6:30-7:30 pm. If your child will be 5 years old by September 1st, 2023, we invite you to attend this informational session provided by the DLS Kindergarten Team. During this orientation, families will have the opportunity to pre-register their child for Kindergarten, learn more about our Dual Language program, and ask any questions you may have. The meeting will take place in the DLS Sparkle Center. If you are unable to attend, we will also be streaming the meeting live through our website and later sharing a recorded copy of the presentation.
Parent Teacher Conferences
Parent-Teacher Conferences will take place on Thursday, March 22nd and are one of the most important times throughout the school year. Teachers and families will have the opportunity to discuss student progress and work to set future goals to ensure continued success and growth. Similar to our Fall conferences, families will have the option of face-to-face conferencing here at DLS or virtually through Google Meet. Communication regarding signing up for conference times will be sent to all families on Friday, March 3rd. Please also be aware that Thursday, March 22nd is an 11:00 am Early Release for students and there is NO SCHOOL on Friday, March 23rd.

¡Por favor, no olvide que el día de la fotografía de primavera es el martes! Los estudiantes tendrán la oportunidad de tomar una nueva foto para el año escolar 2022-2023. Si está interesado en ordenar fotografías escolares, hay dos maneras de ordenar. Si prefiere pagar en efectivo o con cheque a nombre de Lifetouch, complete el formulario de pedido de fotografías con el que su hijo llegó a casa hoy. Tendrán que devolver el formulario con el pago el día de la foto de primavera. Si prefiere pagar con tarjeta de crédito o débito, haga su pedido en línea en www.mylifetouch.com. A través del sistema de pedidos en línea, se le pedirá que ingrese nuestra ID de Picture Day, que es EVTZJWW9G. También verá este número de identificación impreso en el formulario de pedido. Si hace un pedido en línea, su hijo NO necesita devolver el formulario de pedido a DLS. Cualquiera que sea el método de pago que elija, todos los pedidos deben enviarse antes del Spring Picture Day. El Distrito Escolar 76 de Diamond Lake también se complace en anunciar que la Escuela Diamond Lake, la Escuela Intermedia West Oak y la Escuela West Oak Middle se están embarcando en el proceso de convertirse en Escuelas de Alta Confiabilidad (HRS, por sus siglas en inglés) de Marzano. Al seguir el marco de HRS, cada escuela tiene una guía de planificación estratégica a largo plazo con niveles de certificación que se complementan entre sí. Este proceso extremadamente riguroso ayuda a garantizar que cada escuela se concentre constantemente en áreas efectivas de operación escolar. Las escuelas solicitarán la certificación para cada uno de los siguientes niveles y, una vez certificadas, pasarán al siguiente nivel. Los niveles son:
Cultura Segura, Solidaria y Colaborativa
Enseñanza eficaz en todas las aulas
Currículo Garantizado y Viable
Informes con referencia a estándares
Educación basada en competencias
Parte de cada uno de estos pasos incluirá encuestas enviadas a los padres de la comunidad. Debido a que las tres escuelas están comenzando este proceso al mismo tiempo, los padres con estudiantes en varios edificios escolares recibirán varias copias de la misma encuesta. Pedimos respetuosamente que los padres completen la encuesta para cada escuela, porque cada escuela se mide individualmente. Dado que cada escuela presentará su propia solicitud, las encuestas futuras para el siguiente nivel de certificación pueden variar según el edificio. Desafío PBIS Semanal #3: Es increíblemente importante que todos los estudiantes se sientan seguros cuando vienen a la escuela. Orientación de Kindergarten
DLS será el anfitrión de la Orientación de Kindergarten el jueves 16 de marzo de 6:30 a 7:30 p. m.
