Dear Students and Families of West Oak Middle School,
It has been another busy, but productive week at West Oak, with our 1st Trimester ending, and our 2nd Trimester beginning. We are proud to announce that 210 students earned Honor Roll this past trimester! Boys basketball and cheerleading has kicked off and our teachers are looking forward to conferencing with you next Monday. As a reminder, Monday, 11/20, we will be running an Early Release schedule with our school day ending at 11:55am. Here is the bus schedule for your reference. Please review the following announcements and feel free to reach out to the Main Office if you have any questions. Have a great weekend.
Conferences: Parent/teacher conferences at West Oak Middle School, will be on a first come, first serve basis in the middle school gymnasium on November 20th, from 1-8 pm. Teachers' time availability on our district’s website is ONLY for parents/guardians requesting a virtual conference. If families plan to meet with teachers in person, please DO NOT complete an invitation on this page. This change of format is intended to better accommodate families by being more conscientious of their time. After conferences, please give us feedback on this format of conferencing with this Survey. Let the Main Office know if you have any questions.
Book Fair: The Scholastic Book Fair will be held during our Parent/Teacher Conferences in Classroom B of the Innovation Center from 12:00-7:00 pm.
PTO News:
TODAY is our dine out night at Hitz Pizza. Please mention District 76 when ordering. (Dine in or Carry out!) We hope to see many of our families there.

Parent Advisory Committee: Parent input is extremely important to us at West Oak Middle School and because of this, we would like to start a Parent Advisory Committee beginning in January. During this time, we would like to hear your thoughts on various upcoming events that we will be having at school and we would love to listen to any suggestions that you may have as well. If you are interested, please complete the following Form.
Parent University: To better meet the needs of families and to accommodate their busy schedules, the SEL Committee is changing their Parent Universities to a shorter time format called, “Sparkle On in Seconds.” These short video reels are now being pushed out to our various social media platforms. If you would like to see this month’s episodes on the subject of “How parents can support their child’s social emotional learning,” they can be viewed here. Be on the lookout for more short clips on your favorite social media outlet soon!
Commendable: West Oak Middle School was designated as a "Commendable” school in the state of Illinois!
HRS Level 1 Certified: This week West Oak Middle School was notified that we earned the designation as a Marzano High Reliability School. We are one of 14 schools that have earned this designation in the state of Illinois and it pertains to factors considered foundational to the well-being of a school. More specifically, our students, parents and staff perceive our school to be a safe, supportive, and collaborative environment by operating as a professional learning community.
MHS Tours: Mundelein High School is offering building tours throughout the year and is available for students and families of all ages. Here is the link for more information.
Wrestling Club: The Lake County Stallions are beginning their inaugural season of developing youth wrestlers from grades K-8th grade and the season going from November 7th through March 1st. Here is a flyer for more information.
Sewing Club: All students interested in learning how to sew, like to make cute crafts, crochet, or embroider are invited to join Sewing Club. The cost for joining is $30 and applications for Sewing Club are available at the Front Office. Grab your application soon because this fun club fills up fast and will begin after winter break!
Carmel High School: Open House at Carmel Catholic High School was on November 5th for prospective families. Families had the opportunity to learn more by touring the school and meeting faculty, staff, members of the administration, and current students. This leads up to their Entrance Exam that will be held on Saturday, December 2nd.
AAPPL Testing: All of our Dual-Language and students taking Spanish as an Encore class will be taking the AAPPL exam to assess their level of Spanish acquisition. Here is a letter providing more information.
Community Needs: D76 is proud to have a Community Liaison on our staff, whose primary goals are to strengthen the home/school partnership and to provide needed educational wellness, resources and support to students and families. In our efforts to continue creating an equitable education space, please complete this survey if you or your family are in need of assistance.

Estimados estudiantes y familias de la escuela secundaria West Oak,
Ha sido otra semana ocupada pero productiva en West Oak, con el final de nuestro primer trimestre y el comienzo de nuestro segundo trimestre. ¡Estamos orgullosos de anunciar que 210 estudiantes obtuvieron el Cuadro de Honor el trimestre pasado! El baloncesto masculino y las porristas han comenzado y nuestros maestros esperan reunirse con ustedes el próximo lunes. Como recordatorio, el lunes 20 de Noviembre tendremos un horario de salida temprana y nuestro día escolar terminará a las 11:55 a.m. Aquí está el horario del autobús para su referencia. Revise los siguientes anuncios y no dude en comunicarse con la oficina principal si tiene alguna pregunta. Ten un excelente fin de semana.
Conferencias: Las conferencias de padres y maestros en la escuela secundaria West Oak se otorgarán por orden de llegada en el gimnasio de la escuela secundaria el 20 de Noviembre, de 1 a 8pm. Universidad para padres: para satisfacer mejor las necesidades de las familias y adaptarse a sus apretadas agendas, el Comité SEL está cambiando sus universidades para padres a un formato de tiempo más corto llamado "Brilla en Segundos". Estos videos cortos ahora se están publicando en nuestras diversas plataformas de redes sociales. Encomiable: ¡La escuela secundaria West Oak fue designada como una escuela "encomiable" en el estado de Illinois!
Certificación HRS Nivel 1: Esta semana se notificó a la Escuela Secundaria West Oak que obtuvimos la designación como Escuela Marzano de Alta Confiabilidad. Somos una de las 14 escuelas que han obtenido esta designación en el estado de Illinois y pertenece a factores considerados fundamentales para el bienestar de una escuela. Más específicamente, nuestros estudiantes, padres y personal perciben que nuestra escuela es un ambiente seguro, de apoyo y colaborativo al operar como una comunidad de aprendizaje profesional.

Carmel High School: La jornada de puertas abiertas en Carmel Catholic High School fue el 5 de Noviembre para futuras familias. Las familias tuvieron la oportunidad de aprender más recorriendo la escuela y conociendo a los profesores, el personal, los miembros de la administración y los estudiantes actuales. Esto condujo al examen de ingreso que se llevará a cabo el sábado 2 de diciembre.
Pruebas AAPPL: Todos nuestros estudiantes de Lenguaje Dual y que toman español como clase adicional tomarán el examen AAPPL para evaluar su nivel de adquisición de español. Aquí hay una carta proporcionando más información.
