Dear Students and Families of West Oak Middle School,
We are one week away from summer break! With the end of every year comes an exciting, and event filled final week. Hopefully you have noticed the 8th grade Class of 2024 signs that have started to be placed around our community. Our staff felt honored to deliver these signs to each of our 8th grade graduates. A number of the following announcements pertain to our 8th grade students for next week as we lead up to our 8th Grade Promotion Ceremony. 8th Grade Save the Dates: Here are the following events coming up for our 8th grade students. (English/Spanish)
8th Grade Meeting 5/21: At this time, students will be meeting with a few representatives from Mundelein High School in regards to athletic opportunities for next year. Each student will also be receiving their 5 graduation tickets, their gowns, and a sheet outlining how to prepare their gowns for the 8th Grade Promotion Ceremony.
8th Grade Dance 5/21: We are in need of volunteers to help with our 8th grade dance on May 21st. Please complete the following Form if you are willing to help. All eligible 8th graders are invited to the 8th grade dance and it will be located in our middle school gym from 6-8:30pm. Food, music, and fun activities will be offered. Students are encouraged to dress nicely for the event.
8th Grade Outing 5/22: Our 8th graders will be enjoying an afternoon of fun and relaxation at Cynthia Peterson Park from 1-3:00pm on May 22nd. Students will be leaving after their lunch period and spending the afternoon connecting for one of the last times with their classmates. Drinks and snacks will be provided, so students will not need to bring anything for this event. Students will then be bussed back to the school so they can get a ride home for the day.
8th Grade Awards Ceremony 5/23: The 8th Grade Awards Ceremony will be at 8:45am and parents of students receiving awards have been contacted and invited to come and see the event. At the end of the awards ceremony, we will ask for parents to exit as we will begin to rehearse with the 8th graders for their promotion ceremony. They will then receive lunch, and then bus transportation will be provided as they will leave at 11:55am. This will be the 8th graders last day of school.
8th grade Graduation: Students are encouraged to dress nicely and to arrive wearing their gowns at 5:30pm. At this time they will be lining up in the Innovation Center. The doors for the event will open at 5:15pm and it is recommended that families arrive early, with their tickets, and car pool when able as parking will be limited. The ceremony will begin promptly at 6:00pm.
6th/7th Graders Band Students: Our 6th and 7th grade students in Band will be performing at the 8th Grade Promotion Ceremony. Students are asked to arrive by 5:30pm and to dress nicely. Due to space restrictions within the main gym, parents of 6th and 7th graders will not be able to attend this event unless they obtain a Promotion Ceremony ticket.
End of School Technology Turn-ins: With one week remaining in the school year, all Chromebooks, chargers and cases will be turned in on Tuesday, 5/21, for 8th graders, and Wednesday, 5/22, for 6th and 7th graders. Students who haven’t done so already will need to return any library books, band/choir polos and instruments, along with any athletic jerseys that haven’t been previously returned. Please check with your child so that all of these items are returned to avoid any charges.
6th/7th Grade Last Day: Our 6th and 7th grade students’ last day of school will be Friday, 5/24. On this day we will run our regular schedule with our students finishing at 3:25pm. We are scheduled to have a field day in the morning with a movie in the afternoon.
Grades/STAR Results: We finished with our third round of STAR Math and Reading testing earlier this month and the results for each student will be emailed home next Friday, 5/24. Third trimester grades will be emailed out to families that day as well.
PTO News:
Thank you everyone for coming to our PTO McTeachers Night. It was a great success!
On behalf of the PTO, we wanted to thank everyone who donated food, made generous contributions, helped with decorating, and wrote appreciation letters to staff members for Teacher Appreciation week! This week was a success because of YOU! Thank you!!
Encore Selections: In an effort to provide choice within our students’ schedules, students and families are able to select their Encore class preferences for the upcoming school year. All incoming 7th grade students (currently in 6th grade) are asked to complete this form indicating which classes they would like to take next year. All incoming 8th grade students (currently in 7th grade) will complete this form. Let the Main Office know if you have any questions.
Fun Finder: If you are looking for things to do throughout the summer, please review this flyer as the Mundelein Parks and Recs have a number of fun filled activities planned.
Junior Police Academy: The Mundelein Police Department will hold their Jr. Police Academy during the week of June 3rd this summer. The program will run from 8:30-11:30 am each day at the Mundelein Police Department. A maximum of 50 participants will be admitted for this free academy and last year it filled up very quickly. Attached here is the letter and waiver form and to sign up. Please reach out to Officer Sexton, [email protected], for more information.
Community Needs: D76 is proud to have a Community Liaison on our staff, whose primary goals are to strengthen the home/school partnership and to provide needed educational wellness, resources and support to students and families. Estamos a una semana de las vacaciones de verano! Con el fin de cada año llega una última semana emocionante y llena de eventos. Esperamos que hayan notado los carteles de la Clase de 2024 de octavo grado que han comenzado a colocarse en nuestra comunidad. Graduación de 8vo.º: Se anima a los estudiantes a vestirse bien y llegar con sus togas a las 5:30 p.m. En este momento estarán haciendo fila en el Centro de Innovación. Las puertas del evento se abrirán a las 5:15 p.m. y se recomienda que las familias lleguen temprano, con sus boletos, y compartan el auto cuando sea posible, ya que el estacionamiento será limitado. La ceremonia comenzará puntualmente a las 6:00 p.m.
Estudiantes de Banda de 6to/7mo Grado:
Entrega de tecnología al final de la escuela:Con una semana restante en el año escolar, todos los Chromebooks, cargadores y estuches se entregarán el martes 21 de mayo para los estudiantes de 8.º grado y el miércoles 22 de mayo para los estudiantes de 6.º y 7.º grado. Los estudiantes que aún no lo hayan hecho deberán devolver los libros de la biblioteca, polos e instrumentos de banda/coro, junto con las camisetas deportivas que no hayan sido devueltas previamente. Por favor verifique con su hijo para que todos estos artículos sean devueltos para evitar cargos.
Último día de 6to/7mo grado: El último día de clases de nuestros estudiantes de 6.º y 7.º grado será el viernes 24 de mayo. En este día ejecutaremos nuestro horario habitual y nuestros estudiantes terminarán a las 3:25 p.m. Estamos programados para tener un día de campo por la mañana y una película por la tarde.
Calificaciones/Resultados STAR:Terminamos con nuestra tercera ronda de pruebas STAR de Matemáticas y Lectura a principios de este mes y los resultados de cada estudiante se enviarán por correo electrónico a casa el próximo viernes 24 de mayo. Las calificaciones del tercer trimestre también se enviarán por correo electrónico a las familias ese día.
Noticias del PTO:
Gracias a todos por venir a nuestra Noche de McTeachers del PTO. ¡Fue un gran éxito!
En nombre del PTO, queríamos agradecer a todos los que donaron alimentos, hicieron contribuciones generosas, ayudaron con la decoración y escribieron cartas de agradecimiento a los miembros del personal durante la Semana de Agradecimiento a los Maestros. ¡Esta semana fue un éxito gracias a TI! ¡¡Gracias!!
Selecciones adicionales: En un esfuerzo por brindar opciones dentro de los horarios de nuestros estudiantes, los estudiantes y las familias pueden seleccionar sus preferencias de clases Encore para el próximo año escolar. A todos los estudiantes entrantes de séptimo grado (actualmente en sexto grado) se les pide que completen este formulario indicando qué clases les gustaría tomar el próximo año. Academia de Policía Juvenil: El Departamento de Policía de Mundelein llevará a cabo su Academia de Policía Jr. durante la semana del 3 de junio de este verano. El programa se desarrollará de 8:30 a 11:30 am todos los días en el Departamento de Policía de Mundelein.
