Dear Diamond Lake School (DLS) Families,
Trimester II came to a close today for the 2023-2024 school year. Our students did a great job remaining focused on their work, continuing to build relationships with their peers and staff members, and setting new goals towards mastery of grade level standards. Our staff are appropriately challenging students, differentiating instruction to meet student needs, and have established very goal driven classrooms so that our students know what they are working towards. Our teachers also use different learning strategies and resources to achieve those goals. On behalf of DLS staff, we also want to thank you for your continued support. The connection between home and school is crucial for the success of our students. Trimester II report cards will be sent home via email next Friday, February 16th.
Next week is our big Valentine’s Day (VDay) celebration! DLS cannot wait to celebrate. We want to ensure that all our students have the opportunity to celebrate and engage in a special morning of friendship, love, and kindness. We will be having a building wide event with Celebration Stations from 8:00-9:15 am in each of our homerooms.
Students will be assigned to a mixed group of Kindergarten, 1st Grade, and 2nd Grade students and led by one of our homeroom teachers. We will have stations setup in each homeroom throughout the building and additional staff members will be working the stations as well. PreK classes will be celebrating with their individual classes. Please be aware if you have arranged a volunteer opportunity for the VDay celebration with your child’s homeroom teacher and this is your first time volunteering, you are required to read through our Volunteer Handbook and complete the digital form. The Volunteer Handbook provides a great outline of expectations, responsibilities, and safety measures that we instill in our building and follows our Board of Education and District 76 policies. Volunteers are welcome to arrive 10-15 minutes early the first time they volunteer to read the Volunteer Handbook and complete the digital form. The 100th Day of School was a great celebration last week! 100 hugs and 100 kisses for Princess Polly, wonderful Math games with Math Interventionist, Kris Nordlund, and classroom activities all day long. Students also enjoyed hearing the 100th Day of Worries by Margery Cuyler from Polly and I. Through this story, students learned that something is always better than nothing and that 100 bits of love is the most special collection. It was also an extra special, heartfelt celebration with our 2nd Grade class as this was their last 100th Day of School celebration at DLS. As the school year is flying by, our 2nd Grade class will soon be talking more and more about West Oak Intermediate School and preparing for that transition. The Marzano High Reliability Schools (HRS) parent survey has been extended one more week! If you have not completed a survey, please do! Right now DLS has 31 completed parent surveys and our goal is 50. Please help us reach our goal! See below for further details.
D76 is excited to announce that all three of our schools, Diamond Lake School, West Oak Intermediate School and West Oak Middle School are embarking on the process of becoming HRS. By following the HRS framework, each school has a long-term strategic planning guide with certification levels that build upon one another. This extremely rigorous process helps ensure each school is consistently concentrating on effective areas of school operation. Schools are applying for certification for each of the levels below. We are excited to share that all D76 schools are Level 1 Certified! Each school is now pursuing Level 2 Certification.

In order to help us achieve Part of the Level 2 Certification we need your help to complete the survey that is provided below. Because all three schools are starting this process at the same time, parents with students in multiple school buildings will receive multiple copies of the same survey. We respectfully ask that parents complete the survey for each school, because each school is measured individually. Hoy llegó a su fin el II Trimestre del año escolar 2023-2024. Nuestros estudiantes hicieron un gran trabajo manteniéndose enfocados en su trabajo, continuando construyendo relaciones con sus compañeros y miembros del personal, y estableciendo nuevas metas hacia el dominio de los estándares de su grado. Nuestro personal desafía adecuadamente a los estudiantes, diferencia la instrucción para satisfacer las necesidades de los estudiantes y ha establecido aulas muy orientadas a objetivos para que nuestros estudiantes sepan en qué están trabajando. Nuestros maestros también utilizan diferentes estrategias y recursos de aprendizaje para lograr esos objetivos. En nombre del personal de DLS, también queremos agradecerle por su continuo apoyo. La conexión entre el hogar y la escuela es crucial para el éxito de nuestros estudiantes. ¡La próxima semana es nuestra gran celebración del Día de San Valentín (VDay)! DLS no puede esperar para celebrar. Queremos asegurarnos de que todos nuestros estudiantes tengan la oportunidad de celebrar y participar en una mañana especial de amistad, amor y bondad. Tendremos un evento en todo el edificio con estaciones de celebración de 8:00 a 9:15 am en cada uno de nuestros salones de clases.
Los estudiantes serán asignados a un grupo mixto de estudiantes de jardín de infantes, 1er grado y 2do grado y serán dirigidos por uno de nuestros maestros de salón. Tendremos estaciones instaladas en cada salón de clases en todo el edificio y miembros adicionales del personal también trabajarán en las estaciones. ¡El día número 100 de clases fue una gran celebración la semana pasada! 100 abrazos y 100 besos para la princesa Polly, maravillosos juegos de matemáticas con el intervencionista matemático Kris Nordlund y actividades en el aula durante todo el día. Los estudiantes también disfrutaron escuchando 100th Day of Worries de Margery Cuyler de Polly and I. Para ayudarnos a lograr la Parte de la Certificación de Nivel 2, necesitamos su ayuda para completar la encuesta que se proporciona a continuación. Debido a que las tres escuelas están iniciando este proceso al mismo tiempo, los padres con estudiantes en varios edificios escolares recibirán varias copias de la misma encuesta. Respetuosamente solicitamos que los padres completen la encuesta para cada escuela, porque cada escuela se mide individualmente.
