March 15th: Diamond Lake School Weekly Updates

Dear Diamond Lake School (DLS) Families, 

We look forward to welcoming all of you to Parent Teacher Conferences (PTCs) on Thursday.  This student-led conference is a great time for families, students, and teachers to reflect on progress throughout the school year and set continuous goals.  We are proud to announce that this year’s student-led conferences include the introduction of our Student Target Portfolios (STPs).  STPs are a collection of student’s work throughout their enrollment in D76.  The purpose is for families to have a time capsule of student achievement and growth through different grade levels, classrooms, and courses as well as social, emotional, and mental health development.  You will also see over time how STPs are formatted differently and become more in depth as students continue to grow and develop with technology.  

Our current formatting includes video clips of students showing how they Level Up, Lean in, and Sparkle On with a specific skill.  This format allows them to reflect and identify specific accomplishments for the 2023-2024 school year.  This also helps to establish, and continue to have, a growth mindset.  Students have not only learned the meaning of these statements, but continuously ask themselves the questions listed below:

• Level Up: Putting forth the effort; How can I master the specific skill?

• Lean In: Setting a goal; What skill am I trying to master?

• Sparkle On: Continuing to learn and grow; How will I apply this skill, strategy, or technique to future learning opportunities or skills?

During our PTCs, we are hosting our Spring Scholastic Book Fair.  Our Library will turn into a great place to purchase grade level appropriate books in both English and Spanish along with reading accessories.  Students and teachers are also previewing the material and creating a potential wish list of materials.  Check out our cool flyer, click HERE.

Last week, we had the biggest birthday bash!  Our sweet Princess Polly and DLS students and staff celebrated her 5th birthday.  The sweet cards, the hugs and kisses from students, and the singing of “Happy Birthday” all day long were absolutely fabulous.  Thank you for all your generosity and genuine birthday wishes!  Check out THIS special birthday edition of the Diamond Dish.

Kindergarten Orientation: Kindergarten Orientation has been rescheduled!  We look forward to welcoming families with incoming Kindergartners on Wednesday, April 10th 6:00-7:00 pm.  If your child will be 5 years old by September 1st, 2024, we invite you to attend this informational session provided by the DLS Kindergarten Team.  During this orientation, families will have the opportunity to pre-register their child for Kindergarten, learn more about our Dual Language program, and ask any questions you may have.  The meeting will take place in the DLS Sparkle Center.  If you are unable to attend, we will also be streaming the meeting live through our website and later sharing a recorded copy of the presentation. 

Innovation Learning: Innovation Learning is providing childcare opportunities for our upcoming Summer Break.  Click HERE for more information. 

PBIS: The winner of the March Voting Jars is EXTRA RECESS!  Homeroom teachers will select a day to take their students outside for an extra day of play and fun.  We will announce this at our monthly PBIS assembly on Monday.

For our next incentive, we will be working together as a school to earn 200 CUB Cards.  More details to come!

Thank you to all the staff and parents that volunteered for our Culver's dine out earlier this week.  We had such a great turn out and it was so nice to see so many people there!

Summer Exploration:  This summer we are offering incredible learning opportunities for all D76 students entering Kindergarten-8th Grade for the 2024-2025 school year.  D76 Summer Exploration Camp will provide students with enrichment experiences in Reading, Mathematics, and STEAM activities as well as English and Spanish instruction for Dual Language students.  We are also offering a new learning experience for students entering Kindergarten in the Fall.  This program is designed to support students for the transition from PreK to Kindergarten by continuing to work on fine motor skills, letter identification, counting, and phonemic awareness.

Esperamos darles la bienvenida a todos a las conferencias de padres y maestros (PTC) el jueves. Esta conferencia dirigida por estudiantes es un excelente momento para que las familias, los estudiantes y los maestros reflexionen sobre el progreso a lo largo del año escolar y establezcan metas continuas. Estamos orgullosos de anunciar que las conferencias dirigidas por estudiantes de este año incluyen la introducción de nuestros Student Target Portfolios (STP). Los STP son una colección del trabajo de los estudiantes durante su inscripción en el D76. El propósito es que las familias tengan una cápsula del tiempo del logro y crecimiento de los estudiantes a través de diferentes niveles de grado, aulas y cursos, así como del desarrollo social, emocional y de salud mental. También verá con el tiempo cómo los STP tienen un formato diferente y se vuelven más profundos a medida que los estudiantes continúan creciendo y desarrollándose con la tecnología.

Nuestro formato actual incluye videoclips de estudiantes que muestran cómo suben de nivel, se apoyan y brillan con una habilidad específica. Este formato les permite reflexionar e identificar logros específicos para el año escolar 2023-2024. Esto también ayuda a establecer y seguir teniendo una mentalidad de crecimiento. Los estudiantes no sólo han aprendido el significado de estas afirmaciones, sino que continuamente se hacen las preguntas que se enumeran a continuación:

• Subir de nivel: esforzarse; ¿Cómo puedo dominar la habilidad específica?

• Inclinarse: Establecer una meta; ¿Qué habilidad estoy tratando de dominar?

• Sparkle On: Continuar aprendiendo y creciendo; ¿Cómo aplicaré esta habilidad, estrategia o técnica a futuras oportunidades o habilidades de aprendizaje?

Durante nuestros PTC, organizaremos nuestra Feria del Libro Scholastic de Primavera. Nuestra biblioteca se convertirá en un excelente lugar para comprar libros apropiados para el nivel de grado tanto en inglés como en español junto con accesorios de lectura. ¡La semana pasada tuvimos la fiesta de cumpleaños más grande! Nuestra dulce princesa Polly y los estudiantes y el personal de DLS celebraron su quinto cumpleaños. Las dulces tarjetas, los abrazos y besos de los estudiantes y el canto de “Feliz Cumpleaños” durante todo el día fueron absolutamente fabulosos. ¡Gracias por toda su generosidad y genuinos deseos de cumpleaños! Orientación Kindergarten: ¡La orientación de kindergarten ha sido reprogramada! Esperamos dar la bienvenida a las familias con niños que ingresan a kindergarten el miércoles 10 de abril de 6:00 a 7:00 p. m. Si su hijo cumplirá 5 años antes del 1 de septiembre de 2024, lo invitamos a asistir a esta sesión informativa proporcionada por el equipo de kindergarten de DLS. Durante esta orientación, las familias tendrán la oportunidad de preinscribir a sus hijos en kindergarten, aprender más sobre nuestro programa de Lenguaje Dual y hacer cualquier pregunta que puedan tener. La reunión se llevará a cabo en el DLS Sparkle Center. Si no puede asistir, también transmitiremos la reunión en vivo a través de nuestro sitio web y luego compartiremos una copia grabada de la presentación.

PBIS: ¡El ganador de los Frascos de Votación de Marzo es RECREO EXTRA! Los maestros de salón seleccionarán un día para llevar a sus estudiantes afuera para un día extra de juego y diversión. Anunciaremos esto en nuestra asamblea mensual de PBIS el lunes.

Para nuestro próximo incentivo, trabajaremos juntos como escuela para ganar 200 Tarjetas CUB. ¡Más detalles por venir!

PTO:  Gracias a todo el personal y los padres que se ofrecieron como voluntarios para nuestra cena en Culver a principios de esta semana. ¡Tuvimos una gran participación y fue muy agradable ver tanta gente allí!

Exploración de verano:  Este verano ofrecemos increíbles oportunidades de aprendizaje para todos los estudiantes del D76 que ingresan al jardín de infantes al octavo grado para el año escolar 2024-2025. El campamento de exploración de verano del D76 brindará a los estudiantes experiencias de enriquecimiento en lectura, matemáticas y actividades STEAM, así como instrucción en inglés y español para estudiantes de lenguaje dual. También ofrecemos una nueva experiencia de aprendizaje para los estudiantes que ingresan al jardín de infantes en el otoño. Este programa está diseñado para apoyar a los estudiantes en la transición de PreK a Kindergarten al continuar trabajando en las habilidades motoras finas, la identificación de letras, el conteo y la conciencia fonémica.
