Next week we will also be wrapping up our D76 Loves to Read celebration! With THESE special themed days and Read Across America, we will be showing our true school spirit and our love for reading. Launched in 1998 by the National Education Association (NEA) and guided by a committee of educators, NEA’s Read Across America is the nation’s largest celebration of reading.
To help us celebrate, we invite you to:
Read books with your children and use Read Across America’s SITE to promote the message that there is room in our community for all readers. The world, and books, are filled with many different kinds of people. Getting to know them is interesting, exciting, and fun and reading can help to bring diversity together.
Use Read Across America to help kids enjoy and relate to what they read by linking books and reading to other experiences in their lives. When you raise awareness about the importance, value, and fun of reading, children experience literature in a variety of ways.
Make your home a place where Read Across America is on everyone’s calendar. When families make the time to read together, children get the message that reading is important. Children also value this special time together to learn new concepts and bond with one another through reading.
On behalf of DLS Staff, we want to thank Literacy Coach, Ms. Sharon Tweed, for organizing activities over the last month that have encouraged students to both participate and grow a genuine interest and love for reading.
Next Friday, March 1st, we will be conducting our second inclement weather drill. Each school year, we are required to conduct two inclement weather drills. During this drill, students will be lined up in hallways and enclosed in spaces in which there are no outdoor windows or doors. Students will be crouched down on their knees, facing the wall, with their hands over their head. Our action plan for severe weather comes from the National Weather Service and their Severe Weather Preparedness Guide for Schools. Due to the inclement weather drill, our front office will be closed from 8:40-9:00 am. If you need to come to DLS for any reason, we ask that you please be mindful of our scheduled inclement weather drill.
Please be aware that Parent-Teacher Conferences will take place on Thursday, March 21st and are one of the most important times throughout the school year. Teachers and families will have the opportunity to discuss student progress and work to set future goals to ensure continued success and growth. Similar to our Fall conferences, families will have the option of face-to-face conferencing here at DLS or virtually through Google Meet. Communication regarding signing up for conference times will be sent to all families on Friday, March 1st. Please also be aware that Thursday, March 21st is an 11:00 am Early Release for students and there is NO SCHOOL on Friday, March 22nd.

Important Information
PBIS: We will be announcing the winner of the February Voting Jars on Monday, February 26th at our PBIS assembly. Be on the lookout for a SeeSaw message from your child’s teacher to let you know the winner and specific details! We appreciate the great positive behavior that our students have been practicing.
Kindergarten Orientation: Kindergarten Orientation is currently being rescheduled. If you have a student who will be attending Kindergarten in the Fall of 2024, a new date is being set and we will be sure to share that information as soon as it becomes available.
Picture Day: On Tuesday, March 5th, students will have the opportunity to snap a new photo for the 2023-2024 school year. If you are interested in ordering school pictures, there are two ways to order. If you prefer to pay by cash or check payable to Lifetouch, please complete the picture order form that your child brought home last week. They will need to return the form with payment on Spring Picture Day. If you prefer to pay by credit or debit card, please order online at www.mylifetouch.com. Through the online ordering system, you will be asked to enter our Picture Day ID which is EVT9R69BX. You will also see this ID number printed on the order form. If you order online, your child DOES NOT need to return the order form to DLS. Whichever method of payment you choose, all orders must be submitted by Spring Picture Day. Lifetouch will return pictures to DLS for students to bring home shortly after they are taken. Please be aware there are no retakes for Spring pictures.

El próximo viernes 1 de marzo llevaremos a cabo nuestro segundo simulacro de inclemencias del tiempo. Cada año escolar, debemos realizar dos simulacros de clima inclemente. Durante este simulacro, los estudiantes estarán alineados en los pasillos y encerrados en espacios en los que no hay ventanas ni puertas al aire libre. Los estudiantes estarán agachados, de rodillas, de cara a la pared y con las manos sobre la cabeza. Nuestro plan de acción para condiciones climáticas severas proviene del Servicio Meteorológico Nacional y su Guía de preparación para escuelas para condiciones climáticas severas. Debido al simulacro de inclemencias del tiempo, nuestra oficina principal estará cerrada de 8:40 a 9:00 am. Si necesita venir a DLS por algún motivo, le pedimos que tenga en cuenta nuestro simulacro de inclemencias del tiempo programado.
Tenga en cuenta que las conferencias de padres y maestros se llevarán a cabo el jueves 21 de marzo y son uno de los momentos más importantes del año escolar. Los maestros y las familias tendrán la oportunidad de discutir el progreso de los estudiantes y trabajar para establecer metas futuras para garantizar el éxito y el crecimiento continuo. Al igual que en nuestras conferencias de otoño, las familias tendrán la opción de realizar conferencias cara a cara aquí en DLS o virtualmente a través de Google Meet. La comunicación sobre la inscripción para los horarios de la conferencia se enviará a todas las familias el viernes 1 de marzo. PBIS: Anunciaremos el ganador de los tarros de votación de febrero el lunes 26 de febrero en nuestra asamblea de PBIS. ¡Esté atento a un mensaje SeeSaw del maestro de su hijo para informarle el ganador y los detalles específicos! Apreciamos el gran comportamiento positivo que nuestros estudiantes han estado practicando.
Orientación De Kinder: Actualmente se está reprogramando la orientación de kindergarten. Si tiene un estudiante que asistirá a kinder en el otoño de 2024, se está fijando una nueva fecha y nos aseguraremos de compartir esa información tan pronto como esté disponible.
Día de Fotos: El martes 5 de marzo, los estudiantes tendrán la oportunidad de tomar una nueva fotografía para el año escolar 2023-2024. Si está interesado en pedir fotografías escolares, hay dos formas de hacerlo. Si prefiere pagar en efectivo o con cheque a nombre de Lifetouch, complete el formulario de pedido de fotografías que su hijo trajo a casa la semana pasada. Deberán devolver el formulario con el pago el día de la fotografía de primavera. Si prefiere pagar con tarjeta de crédito o débito, haga su pedido en línea en www.mylifetouch.com. A través del sistema de pedidos en línea, se le pedirá que ingrese nuestro ID del día de la fotografía, que es EVT9R69BX.También verá este número de identificación impreso en el formulario de pedido. Si realiza un pedido en línea, su hijo NO necesita devolver el formulario de pedido a DLS. Cualquiera que sea el método de pago que elija, todos los pedidos deben enviarse antes del Día de la fotografía de primavera. Lifetouch devolverá las fotografías a DLS para que los estudiantes las lleven a casa poco después de haberlas tomado. Tenga en cuenta que no se pueden repetir las fotografías de primavera.
