Dear Students and Families of West Oak Middle School,
IAR testing has begun and our students are off to a great start! Thank you for helping get your child ready for these exams and getting them to school on time as our attendance has been tremendous. We have two more days of testing next week on Tuesday, 3/12, and Wednesday, 3/13. In addition to this, we have a number of other important events coming up. 5Essentials: We ask that all our families take the following 5Essentials survey in order to give us feedback on how we are doing in a number of areas within our school. Please review the following letter for more information.
Exploration Camp: The District 76 Summer Exploration Camp offers an exciting opportunity for Diamond Lake students entering grades 1 through 8 to engage in a variety of educational and fun activities, at absolutely no cost. Scheduled from Monday to Friday, from June 3rd through the 28th, the camp will be hosted at Diamond Lake School, ensuring a familiar and safe environment for all participants. Attendees will be provided with breakfast, ensuring they start their day right. The camp features instruction in both English and Spanish, catering to a diverse student body. The curriculum is designed to be engaging and enriching, with a focus on reading, math, and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) activities, aiming to foster creativity, critical thinking, and a love for learning among students. Mayor’s Cup 2024: The annual Mayor’s Cup STEM Challenge is a great opportunity for Mundelein students to showcase their Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) skills, earn cash rewards, and have fun in the process! Think critically, work together in teams, test your knowledge, and strengthen your collaborative and social skills. Expect real-world problem solving, hands-on involvement, and out-of-the-box thinking! The deadline for students to sign up is March 18th. Here are the flyers for more information. (English/Spanish)
Illinois Youth Survey: All 8th grade students are being asked to participate in a voluntary survey called the Illinois Youth Survey the week of March 11th. The purpose of this survey is to better understand Illinois youth risk and protective behaviors as they relate to students and their success. Participation will involve completing a survey (with no names or identification numbers) that will be confidentially administered by a classroom teacher. Your child’s participation will last no more than one class period (40-45 minutes). Here is the link to the opt-out website if you would not like your child to take this exam. Let the Main Office know if you would like your child to opt-out of the survey.
MHS Cultural Fair: Mundelein High School will be having its annual Cultural Fair on March 19th and will be available to the community after 6:00pm. We hope to see you there.
Parent University: Our SEL Committee is excited to announce that our February Parent University is now live on our website as well as on the Parent University webpage. This month, the focus is on our “Parent Involvement Series.” Further communication will be sent out via School Messenger and on our social media platforms.
Innovation Learning: Summer programming through Innovation Learning is now available and will run from May 29th-August 9th. Please review the flyer for more information. (English/Spanish)
Veteran’s Day Dinner: Our communities Mundelein Afterschool Coalition will be holding its annual Veterans Appreciation Dinner for April 12th, from 5:30-8:00pm. Here is the letter and flyer for more information.

Campamento de exploración: El campamento de exploración de verano del Distrito 76 ofrece una emocionante oportunidad para que los estudiantes de Diamond Lake que ingresan a los grados 1 al 8 participen en una variedad de actividades educativas y divertidas, sin costo alguno. Programado de lunes a viernes, del 3 al 28 de junio, el campamento se llevará a cabo en Diamond Lake School, garantizando un ambiente familiar y seguro para todos los participantes. Encuesta de jóvenes de Illinois: Se pide a todos los estudiantes de octavo grado que participen en una encuesta voluntaria llamada Encuesta de jóvenes de Illinois la semana del 11 de marzo. El propósito de esta encuesta es comprender mejor los comportamientos de riesgo y protección de los jóvenes de Illinois en su relación con los estudiantes y su éxito.
