District Update for Remote and In Person Learning

Last night you received a communication from the District providing a timeline of how we will go forward with learning.  You can read that communication here.  Below is information specific to West Oak Intermediate School  :

1.18 No School (Martin Luther King Day)

1.19 No School (Remote Planning Day)

1.20 School Resumes New Distance Learning Schedule

    Why a new schedule?

• The new schedule allows for consistent instruction throughout the entire school day

• This schedule is able to be followed whether or not a student is in person or remote

• If we were to have to switch between any of the formats (Remote, In Person, or Hybrid) throughout the year, the schedule will not have to change.

*Flex time is designated to incorporate science, social studies, or extend math and literacy lessons.

WOIS Coffee With The Principal

Please join Mr. Preble for a virtual Coffee with the Principal on Tuesday, 1.19 at 8:30am.  Mr. Preble will discuss the new schedule taking effect on Wednesday, 1.20.2021 as well as other updates specific to WOIS remote and in person learning. Link to meeting.

WOIS In Person/Remote Learning Details                                                                                                                                 Do you have questions about whether or not to choose in person learning for your child, or to keep them remote?  Here are some highlights and updates, specific to West Oak Intermediate School that can help you with your decision process:

• A new schedule, beginning 1.20.2021, will be a more traditional full day schedule with academic periods throughout the 8:00-2:55 school day

• Whether students are in person, or remote, the schedule will be the same.  Teachers will be simultaneously teaching in person and remote students

• Based on the current anticipated numbers, WOIS will have the capacity to run a full day schedule, every day, eliminating the need for an "A-B" student attendance schedule.  

• Students will be moving throughout the building to attend lunch, recess, mask breaks, and of course restroom visits

• Depending on the number of students in person, there may be opportunities for students to switch classrooms to attend math class and/or advanced intervention classes

• All specials will be taught in the homeroom

• At this time, we are continuing with Advanced programming, 5th Grade Band and Choir

• If opportunities or challenges arise that would warrant any revisions to this plan, the revisions will be communicated to you as soon as possible.

SEL Committee Updates

Welcome to 2021! With a challenging year behind us and new opportunities ahead, the “Social-Emotional Learning” Committee has been hard at work laying the foundation for offering resources for our students, staff members, and parents so they can lead a more healthy and happy lifestyle. Research shows that viewing our lives through a positive lense helps us become more creative, more productive, more healthy, and overall lead more happy and fulfilling lives. Each week moving forward, we plan to offer you short snippets of resources that may help you and your family maximize your social and emotional health. We look forward to starting this next week and hearing your feedback. Let’s together make 2021 the best year for our children, our families, and ourselves!

1.20 Regreso a Clases Nuevos Horarios de Aprendizaje a Distancia 

    ¿Por qué hay un nuevo horario? 

• El nuevo horario permite una instrucción constante durante todo el día escolar. 

• Este horario es creado para poder seguir las clases en persona o remotamente. 

• Si tuviéramos que cambiar entre cualquiera de los formatos( Remoto, En Persona, o Híbrido.) a lo largo del año, el horario no tendrá que cambiar.

Nuevo Horario De WOIS 

*El tiempo flex está designado para incorporar ciencias, estudios sociales o ampliar las lecciones de matemáticas y literatura.

¿Tiene preguntas sobre si elegir o no el aprendizaje en persona para su hijo, o mantenerlos remotos? Aquí están algunos aspectos destacados y actualizaciones específicas de la escuela West Oak Intermedia para que le pueda ayudar en el proceso de su decisión: 

• Un nuevo Horario empezará a partir del 1.20.2021, será un horario más tradicional y se verá como un dia comun en la escuela con clases académicas entre un horario normal de 8:00- 2:55

• Ya sea que los estudiantes estén en persona, o a distancia, el horario será el mismo. Los maestros enseñarán simultáneamente en persona y a estudiantes remotos.

• En base a los números anticipados actuales, WOIS tendrá la capacidad de ejercer un horario de día completo, todos los días, eliminando la necesidad de un horario de asistencia de estudiantes "A-B".

• Los estudiantes se moverán por todo el edificio para asistir al almuerzo, el recreo, descanso de mascarillas y, por supuesto, las visitas al baño

• Dependiendo del número de estudiantes en persona, puede haber oportunidades para que los estudiantes cambien de salón para asistir a clases de matemáticas y/o clases de intervención avanzada

• Todas las clases especiales serán tomadas en el salón principal de su hijo

• En este momento, continuamos con la programación avanzada de banda y coro para los estudiantes de 5to grado

• Si surgen oportunidades o desafíos que justifiquen cualquier revisión de este plan, las revisiones se le comunicarán lo antes posible.

Bienvenidos al 2021! Con un año desafiante de tras de nosotros y nuevas oportunidades por delante, el “ Aprendizaje socio-emocional”  del Comité ha estado trabajando duro poniendo las bases para ofrecer recursos para nuestros estudiantes, miembros del personal y padres para que puedan llevar un estilo de vida más saludable y feliz. La investigación muestra que ver nuestras vidas a través de un sentido positivo nos ayuda a ser más creativos, más productivos, más saludables, y en general llevar vidas más felices y satisfactorias.Cada semana que avanzan, planeamos ofrecer fragmentos cortos de recursos que pueden ayudarle a usted y a su familia a maximizar su salud social y emocional. Esperamos poder comenzar la próxima semana y escuchar sus comentarios. ¡Juntos hagamos del 2021 el mejor año para nuestros hijos, nuestras familias y nosotros mismos!
