April 13, 2020 Family Update

Dear District 76 Families,

I hope you enjoyed a peaceful start to Passover and/or a joyous Easter this weekend.

This letter provides you an update for Phase III DLO and some important reminders during the mandated school closures:

D76 Priorities:

  • Priority One: Make sure children have access to food/needed resources

  • Priority Two: Account for the extended safety, health and welfare of our students and staff

  • Priority Three: Communicate clearly

  • Priority Four:  Provide Distance Learning Opportunities (DLO)

PHASE III Distance Learning Opportunities (DLO) Updated Expectations and Schedule:

  • All DLO are found on our website

  • Monday, April 13: Staff Institute Day-all teachers worked to plan and prepare for Phase III DLO

    • Student Interaction: Staff members will interact with students each day of DLO; specific schedules will be shared by your teacher(s).

    • Student Instruction: Teachers will provide a variety of age-appropriate instructional strategies each day of DLO. The continuation of learning and student growth is expected.  Games will be reserved for practice and/or enrichment not as the primary instructional tool. Specific schedules will be shared by your teacher(s).

    • Contact/Office Hours: Teachers will be posting and sharing daily times that they will be available for both parents/students to answer and/or respond to questions related to DLO.

  • Friday, May, 1: Staff Institute Day: No DLO Activities for students

  • Enrichment/Extension Activities: Teachers have compiled  “extra” activities for students to work on when they have completed their DLO and are looking for additional learning opportunities. Please visit the DLO webpage on our website where you will find Learning Resources and the Diamond Collection.

Technology:

  • D76 is also working to make technology available to K-2 households.

Importantly, I would also like to remind you to please stay home and help save lives. Wash your hands often. Practice social distancing, staying at least six feet away from anyone you might see if you are outside your home. Assume that anyone that you come in contact with outside your home might have the coronavirus and remember that even if you don’t become ill, you could still be a carrier of the disease and pass it on to someone else, someone who could then become ill.

Stay home, stay healthy and positive. Thank you for your partnership and support.

Embrace = Empower = Excel...Each Child = Each Day,
