Thank you for your continued support of our students as they engage in Remote Learning. Please see the items below for important information and opportunities. Tutorial: As of Tuesday, 10/13, Tutorial has now started for the 20-21 school year. Tutorial is a great way for students to receive direct instruction from a teacher outside of their regular classroom time. This is an OPTIONAL time for students to make up assignments in order to improve their grades or for students to gain a more enhanced understanding of what is being taught in the classroom. Students can elect to attend the program voluntarily or they can be referred by their teachers. ALL students have been sent an invite to their school email address to join the Tutorial Google Classroom or they can access the link that is located on the Student Hub. Tutorial will be supervised each day by Mr. Goldberg, with a math focus on Mondays and Wednesdays, and Mrs. Wysocki with a language arts focus on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30-4:30. Chromebooks and Other Devices: We strongly encourage all students to use the Chromebooks they have been given for remote learning. A family can use another device ONLY IF the student uses a Google Chrome Web Browser. Once the student signs into their account on Google Chrome, they will sync their account. This allows for all of the applications and extensions on the Chromebook to be accessible for students. The most important extension is GoGuardian, which is an important tool for teachers to monitor student learning and provide real-time feedback. Steps to use Google Chrome on another computer have been provided by our technology department and can be found here.
Haunted Drive-Thru: The Alden Long-Grove Rehabilitation Center is hosting a haunted drive-thru on Thursday, October 29th. Please click here to see the flyer.
Spiritwear: The Diamond Lake PTO is hosting a Spiritwear ordering website from now until October 26th. You can order on this website. Items will be delivered to the West Oak Campus for Pickup.
Clubs: Our We group Club, Broadcast Club, and Yearbook Club will be starting the week of October 26th. Here is a blurb about each:
WE group-WE group is composed of 6th - 8th graders interested in helping the community, the school and others. When people work together many positives are created. In the past we have donated proceeds from concessions to aid three children in Haiti to attend school. We have given a donation to the community drive. Last year we held our first school wide carnival for WOMS. This year some of us helped at the Food Bank which served over 275 families. Our meetings will be held on the third Monday of every month from 3:30 - 4:30. Please email Mrs. Wysocki [email protected] for more information.
Broadcast Club-The goal of the Student Broadcasting Club is to inform students, staff and the community about current school and world-related events through technology. Students will shoot, edit, and report on the great things we have going on here at our school. The club will be student driven with having students take the lead of writing, creating, filming, editing and directing all of the broadcasts! We aim to prepare and encourage students who have a passion for film & broadcast journalism. Students will use modern technology to broadcast the news through video. They will learn to present news in an engaging and professional fashion and to work together as a team. The club will meet Tuesday’s (3x-4x month) after school from 3:30-4:25pm. Yearbook Club-The main purpose of Yearbook Club is to create and produce the school’s annual yearbook from start to finish. The best part is when students get to see their hard work pay off when the yearbooks arrive in June! While in Yearbook club, students learn about teamwork, responsibility, brainstorming, content, writing, headlines, captions, editing, photography, design, graphics and distribution provides middle school students with the opportunity to assist in yearbook sales, photography and mostly design. Students help to promote yearbook sales by making posters and distributing yearbook information. Students also assist in designing the pages of the yearbook. After being trained on the online program, hjedesign, the students will be given an opportunity to design yearbook spreads at home to develop and design the pages. In addition to designing pages, throughout the course of the year students also help out with various other yearbook-related tasks, including selling yearbooks, photography, working on promotions, and eventually yearbook distribution. Spiritwear: El PTO de Diamond Lake está hospedando un sitio web de pedidos de Spiritwear desde ahora hasta el 26 de octubre. Puede ordenar en este sitio web. Los artículos se entregarán en el campus de West Oak para ser recogidos.
Clubes: Nuestro club de We group, club de transmisión y club del anuario comenzará la semana del 26 de octubre. Aquí hay una propaganda sobre cada uno.
Grupo WE: El Grupo WE está compuesto por estudiantes de 6º a 8º grado interesados en ayudar a la comunidad, la escuela y otros. Cuando las personas trabajan juntas, se crean muchos aspectos positivos. En el pasado, hemos donado las ganancias de las concesiones para ayudar a tres niños en Haití a asistir a la escuela. Hemos hecho una donación a la campaña comunitaria. El año pasado celebramos nuestro primer carnaval en toda la escuela para WOMS. Este año, algunos de nosotros ayudamos en el Banco de Alimentos que atendió a más de 275 familias. Nuestras reuniones se llevarán a cabo el tercer lunes de cada mes de 3:30 a 4:30. Club del anuario: El propósito principal del Club del anuario es crear y producir el anuario anual de la escuela de principio a fin. ¡La mejor parte es cuando los estudiantes ven recompensado su arduo trabajo cuando lleguen los anuarios en junio! Mientras están en el club del anuario, los estudiantes aprenden sobre el trabajo en equipo, la responsabilidad, la lluvia de ideas, el contenido, la escritura, los titulares, los subtítulos, la edición, la fotografía, el diseño, los gráficos y la distribución, lo que brinda a los estudiantes de secundaria la oportunidad de ayudar en la venta del anuario, la fotografía y principalmente el diseño. Los estudiantes ayudan a promover las ventas del anuario haciendo carteles y distribuyendo información del anuario. Los estudiantes también ayudan a diseñar las páginas del anuario. Después de recibir capacitación en el programa en línea, los estudiantes tendrán la oportunidad de diseñar pliegos del anuario en casa para desarrollar y diseñar las páginas. Además de diseñar páginas, durante el transcurso del año, los estudiantes también ayudan con otras tareas relacionadas con el anuario, incluida la venta de anuarios, fotografías, trabajo en promociones y, finalmente, distribución del anuario.
