Fairhaven Families,
Parent involvement can take on many forms. Research shows that supporting your child’s education at home significantly impacts his or her educational progress. When your child gets home from school, look at completed work together and talk about how well your youngster is doing. Comment on what you see and let your child know that you can tell how much progress is being made at school. Instead of asking “how was school today” which will typically give you the answer “fine” ask questions like these that will get your child talking with you:
What was the coolest thing that happened at school today? What wasn’t cool?
Pretend you are the teacher. How would you describe the day?
What made you laugh today?
What was the most creative thing you did today?
How were you kind or helpful today? How was someone kind or helpful to you today?
In an electronic world, talking to each other is getting less common while watching a screen takes center stage. As a parent, talking to your child makes a positive difference.

Familias de Fairhaven,
La participación de los padres puede tomar muchas formas. Las investigaciones muestran que apoyar la educación de su hijo en casa afecta significativamente su progreso educativo. Cuando su hijo llegue a casa de la escuela, mire el trabajo completo y hable sobre el desempeño de su hijo/a. Comente sobre lo que ve y hágale saber a su hijo cuánto progreso está haciendo en la escuela. En lugar de preguntar "cómo estuvo la escuela hoy", que normalmente le dará la respuesta "bién", haga preguntas como estas que harán que su hijo hable con usted:
¿Cuál fue la cosa más genial que sucedió en la escuela hoy? ¿Qué no fue genial?
Imagina que eres el maestro. ¿Cómo describirías el día?
¿Qué te hizo reír hoy?
¿Cuál fue la cosa más creativa que hiciste hoy?
¿Cómo fuiste amable o servicial hoy? ¿Cómo fue alguien amable o servicial contigo hoy?
En un mundo electrónico, hablar entre sí es cada vez menos común mientras se ve una pantalla que ocupa el lugar central. Como padre, hablar con su hijo hace una diferencia positiva.
