Over the past 2 1/2 years, under Dr. Petrella's leadership, we have improved instruction and implemented new curriculum for all students. We have implemented effective use of assessments to guide instruction. We have increased our ability to meet the needs of students requiring additional support, special education, and gifted services. We have made tremendous strides in bringing technology capability to the classroom. We have invested heavily in upgrading our teacher skills via professional development. As a result, based on the most recent ISAT scores, we have outpaced the state average in academic growth.
Dr. Petrella has elected not to extend his contract with District 76 next year. For the rest of this year he will lead us as we reinforce the skills and practices we have adopted while we implement our technology one-to-one initiative and determine a long-term direction for dealing with our aging facilities. We will also soon begin a search for his successor. Look for more information about our process in the coming weeks.
