October 8, 2015 Construction Update: Diamond Lake Road Culvert ReplacementAfter several delays, we are now targeting the end of October for reopening Diamond Lake Road. At first, the creek diversion was overtopped by the large amount of rain (3-4”) that fell between Sept. 17 - 18. This postponed work on the site until the creek level went down, then we dewatered the work area and had to re-excavate from the flooding. Next, we found some old concrete foundations we weren’t expecting below the surface, so extra time was necessary to jackhammer out the obstruction.
Flooded work site after heavy rains, September 2015
Currently the concrete contractor is installing the foundations. We are expecting the concrete pour this week which will take some time to form, pour the concrete and then let the concrete get up to strength. Once that is in place, we will be setting the precast concrete arch pipe sections on the foundations with a crane, and back filling the area in preparation for replacing the pavement. Once the road is reopened to traffic, we will finish the items that can be done under traffic like installing the guardrail and landscaping.
