Superintendent Search Survey - EXTENDED to Jan. 30th!!
Dear Diamond Lake 76 Staff and Friends:

The Diamond Lake School District 76 Board of Education has solicited the expertise of BWP and Associates to conduct a professional search for my successor as Superintendent of Schools. To that end, the Board has charged BWP and Associates with creating a brief survey for District staff and constituents to be able to provide input regarding desired traits and skills for Diamond Lake’s next leader. The survey can be easily accessed by clicking here (English / Spanish).

All members of the Diamond Lake 76 community are encouraged to complete the survey on or before January 30, 2015. Once the survey window closes, BWP consultants will organize the survey data and provide the Board of Education with a summary of results and insightful information that will be used to inform the decision process. I strongly encourage all District stakeholders to complete the survey for this most important endeavor.

Thank you for your time and consideration. This is an exciting time for all members of the Diamond Lake 76 family. I am certain that the search will yield an exceptional superintendent for our outstanding students, staff, and families.

Joseph A. Petrella, Ed.D.
Superintendent of Schools

5Essentials Survey
Third Illinois 5Essentials Survey to Improve Student Learning
Due to technical difficulties, District 76's participation in this survey has been delayed. It is expected that access to the survey for Fairhaven, Diamond Lake, and West Oak Middle Schools will begin during the coming week.
Diamond Lake School District 76 will join the
Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) in the third statewide survey of school climate and learning conditions. The survey provides a unique opportunity for teachers, students, and parents to have a voice in improving their schools. From January 12 through March 13, teachers, students, and parents will be asked to take a 20-minute research-based survey to help identify strengths and weaknesses in their school’s learning environment. This survey will serve as an opportunity for schools to reflect on progress since the last statewide implementation. The Illinois 5Essentials Survey provides a comprehensive picture of a school’s organizational culture in an individualized report measuring five “essentials” critical for school success.  Click here for additional information.

Master Facility Updated 12/16/14
In April 2014, Diamond Lake School District 76 hired Fanning Howey to conduct a Master Facility Plan. The purpose of the Plan is to identify necessary facilities improvements that will make the best use of community resources and have the greatest positive impact on teaching and learning. Click here for information regarding work completed to date and the steps required to move forward.
A Note from the Board of Education...
Over the past 2 1/2 years, under Dr. Petrella's leadership, we have improved instruction and implemented new curriculum for all students. We have implemented effective use of assessments to guide instruction. We have increased our ability to meet the needs of students requiring additional support, special education, and gifted services. We have made tremendous strides in bringing technology capability to the classroom. We have invested heavily in upgrading our teacher skills via professional development. As a result, based on the most recent ISAT scores, we have outpaced the state average in academic growth.

Dr. Petrella has elected not to extend his contract with District 76 next year. For the rest of this year he will lead us as we reinforce the skills and practices we have adopted while we implement our technology one-to-one initiative and determine a long-term direction for dealing with our aging facilities. We will also soon begin a search for his successor. Look for more information about our process in the coming weeks.
